pre-paid the collectibles (physical and/or digital) and got offered the DLC apparently.

Free as in, no additonal cost to people that purchased the CE, not free as in people that purchased the CE get it for nothing. It's obvious part of the cost of the CE goes towards everything included. Otherwise the CE would be the same price as the SE.

This.

I'm asking Casey and marketing to clarify this so that the clarification is official.  The wording can be taken in a number of ways.

Wording or no, people who buy the CE are laying out more cash than someone who buys the regular edition, so what's the money for? The extra's - duh. This isn't rocket science.

The physical extras which cost money not the digital ones.

A Prothean fighting Collectors.

This also implies that there will be Collectors in the SP campaign. Interesting.

So the script writing, voice acting, programming, etc, are all free for BioWare/EA? I think not.

You do realise BioWare/EA are businesses, not non-profit organisations, right?

The fact that it's day-one DLC is actually sort of okay. Buy the CE? Cool, have a free character. Don't buy the CE? That's fine, too, you can still buy the character separately.
What bugs me is that they think that one squad member, one gun, and one mission is worth one-sixth of the full game. $10 is an outlandish expectation for this DLC. Can you imagine if ME3 in it's entirety was six characters, six guns, and six missions? Because that's what would add up to $60 of DLC. It would be a four hour game with negligible excitement at getting a new gun ("oh boy, i found the fourth gun, only two more guns to find throughout the entire game"), zero armor or weapon customization, and you would nuke the reapers in only six missions.
Remember Bring Down The Sky DLC from ME1? That was one very memorable and unique mission that gave you some cool gear at the end and it cost one dollar. $1.00. 80 Microsoft points. One mission for $1. Then a new gun is less content, but you an use it throughout the rest of your game, so another $1 there. A new character is like the gun, not a playable things, but something that you can use in missions throughout the rest of your game, but more hefty, there is voice-acting and movement animations, etc. involved, so maybe $3. Which means that this DLC cost easily twice what it's worth.

Split hairs if you want. You don't get to decide what my 80$ CE's "actual" worth is. I'm buying it from BW/EA not you.

That's your opinion on how CE should be, not the way it actually works in this case.  With that reasoning, ME3 itself should be much cheaper, as I know a disc shouldn't be costing me anywhere near $60, and that's with me buying the physical copy.

no need to overreact, that's why we're asking casey hudson if he really meant that the DLC in the CE is free of charge.

the hot potato as they say is in his hands now.

So now we have to wonder how the Collectors are on Eden Prime (if this is present-day Eden Prime) and how different they may be not only with the new A.I. programming, but also lore wise without there being a Collector General to be a conduit for Harbringer to issue orders.

Sorry. I get defensive when people make it sound like I'm getting things for free--when I'm clearly paying 20$ more for all the extra content. I'll try to calm myself.

im thinking and its only a guess and NOT from the script but what if a prothean was put on eden prime as a form of guardian to monitor the prothean beacon there?

its just a thought

Whatever happened to just selling a complete game?

This merchandising circus is so confusing you will need to sell DLC guidebooks, so people can figure out what parts to buy to get the full game.

Hopefully EA will get burned badly by all this, they are sucking out all creativity from gaming.

I'll support individual developers who make games out of a love for the media, and not those who work to exploit the consumers as much as they can. Thanks Bioware for completely ruining the third part of the trilogy with intrusive DRM, tacky DLCs and general overhype.

I'll just let TotalBiscuit do the constructive arguing, because I'm too disappointed at this point to make much sense.
