Right, and that's also only US. So you can probably do a 1.5-2 multiplier on those numbers.

The only thing I could find on the matter was regarding indie development and it claimed the developer received between 40 and 70%. Link below. However, major game DLC deals with not only a developer but also a publisher (albeit has generally higher sales prices and amount of sales than indie games). I'd like to see that graph though and the sourcing behind it. There is a reason developers do DLC and honestly, 30% wouldn't be much of an incentive if it were me.

My bad - It was for the full game, not DLC. And it's only 15%. I'm sure every developer/publisher deal is different but I'm guessing this is the standard ballpark.

Haha, what's amazing about that is I mentioned EA would probably end up with 60% of the revenue at wholesale of the retail value. However I underestimated the amount it would sell to the retailers for, saying it would sell for 60% directly to them, not taking into account MS's cut. Either way, EA (by virtue of owning BioWare so developer/publisher are together here) ends up with 60%, or $36, based on that graphic, just as I guessed in my little business post a few pages back. I must have gotten lucky!
Granted, part of that $36 per copy is on there for "marketing" but those are just funds that are replacing what they've already spent pre-launch in marketing costs. Sorry to toot my own horn about getting that right it's just funny that I got the amount per copy exactly right. I was just educated guessing.

Well, I'm sure EA will release Origin numbers right after launch to claim how, supposedly, successful their online platform is.

I can't find any numbers on it - As I said to Bob, you can probably safely do a 1.5-2 multiplier on that to include PC digital and non-US orders.

I know, but I didn't expect a source for global pre-orders. Usually the company itself discloses those if they are high enough for it to be chest-beat worthy.

In Mike Gamble's original post he mentioned there would be screenshots or video "later this week". Despite our best efforts, they aren't ready and won't be released this week as Mike thought.
When we do have new information on screenshots or a video, we'll let everyone know. Thanks.

VGChartz has a fairly long history of providing less than accurate data, that also would not include any digital pre-orders. Don't forget that ME3 is going to have a digital version for PS3 too (I am assuming they will not be included either, but could be wrong).obie191970 wrote...

In addition to all of the above, that's US only.

So it's a little confusing to say the least and it's hard to trust those numbers being accurate.
Edit: Looks like they've actually gone back through and edited the previous weeks and lowered them all down. Interesting. There was a thread on here that was linking to that list every week and doing the chart and all that and they were all stupified when it dropped way down week-to-week at the time.

Well as I said there are different measures of success. Will ME3 sell millions, sure. Will it be in the same league as the big boys like EA wants ? Seems unlikely.
The thing is after ME all Bioware are left with is DA3 or something new. Which does not leave them that strong if EA concludes they will never get those numbers with Bioware.

And by that you mean, you need more time to come up with a video, that would not cause even more controversy, by showing that the DLC is actually mandatory to get the complete ME3 experience.
So now you have to convince people, that this DLC is absolutely optional, yet it must look cool.
Good luck.

Well, so we'll hopefully see more about the DLC and know what exactly we're paying for. Also hope we get the launch trailer next week:wizard:

VGchartz is notoriously a little unreliable at times. Take for example a month or so ago, between one week and the next, they claimed ME3 added something like 50-60k new preorders and yet the total number of cumulative preorders was DOWN almost 100k from the week before. All the big games were like that. Diablo 3 supposedly added like 25k or something but was down 50k from the week before. It was as if they retconned their entire list downward. They've never addressed this or tweaked the numbers since then either. They've just been adding to the "retconned" numbers.
So it's a little confusing to say the least and it's hard to trust those numbers being accurate.
Dont forget stuff gets canceled. The numbers don't always go upwards.
Lets say you ordered D3 and it's slipped yet again a bunch of people cancel. Happens quite a bit when games slip their expected dates.
VG is not accurate I don't think anyone would claim that. But it does manage to be in the ballpark which is good enough for abstract message board topics.

Devs have hinted strongly that they will be revisiting ME, just it won't be Shepard based. Plus "BioWare" has the water-downed C&C titles.
But agreed, they aren't going to get huge numbers. People are still recovering from the holidays (including ValDay for those it applies to), and there isn't a motive outside of wanting the game to drive sales.

uh, the problem with that is that you have to dumb down ME3 if you want to win in amount of copies sold, and I don't want that. I already have to tolerate Chobot, sexied up characters and that now everything is about Earth and not about the galaxy, be careful with what you want.
Exactly, there's a lot of inherent tension between making a great game and selling a lot of copies. If they released The Godfather today it would get blown out of the water by whatever Michael Bay and Adam Sandler are crapping out this month.
While there's an obvious temptation to sell out to the masses in exchange for their money, I'd like to think there's some integrity and restraint left. Enrolling industry people to serve as voice actors is coming close to the line, as is adding multiplayer functionality to a game that was never about that. But those are acceptable bows to reality.
Cut content DLC is another monster entirely, and this immense and seemingly growing outrage evinces that.

Yeah, it's a pretty tight rope they have to walk. On the one hand they have to justify the $10 cost by showing it's cool, on the other they have to justify the $10 cost by showing it's not THAT cool.
Quite a corner they've painted themselves into...

Jan 14: http://www.vgchartz....-passes-500000/
Jan 21: http://www.vgchartz....orders-pick-up/
Feb 4: http://www.vgchartz....doms-of-amalur/
Feb 11: http://www.vgchartz....-metal-ufc-ssx/
So anyway, I'm hoping the previous numbers were accurate. 695k as of Feb 4th, 66k more Feb 11, and 107k more Feb 18th. That would bring the total to 868,000 on Xbox alone, just in the US, and would mean 1M US 360 preorders is pretty likely. I'd like to see that happen.
