Hey so I was thinking, and I almost made a new thread for this ... but would anybody who is up in arms about this be cooled off just a little if BioWare were to compromise and say "hey guys, we apologize for the way this was handled but this was developed after the main game and we need to recoup some of our cost spent on the project. How about we offer it for $5 instead of $10?"

I realize this doesn't accomplish getting it included with your game but if they were to extend that olive branch, would it help anybody out there to feel a little more OK about it? This is just something that crossed my mind.

Only problem with that is they'll automatically say (and they already just replied to your post)  "Oh it isnt about the money, it was never about the money"  "FREE"

If they need to cover a cost like with MS or Sony and they actually have proof of that I think people will calm a bit. Then again I'm a forgiving sort of person.

It seems logical that they have to pay MS sony something since they are using their servers. May be wrong though.

And I think that's the issue.  They've told us when it was developed and why it isn't a part of the main game, but they haven't told us why it couldn't have been free DLC or why it costs as much as it does.  I'll be fine with the price tag if they can justify it more than it was developed after the game, because there has been free DLC in the past, whether it's a perk for new game purchasers or not.

I really don't give a **** about this DLC because I never purchased one piece of DLC.... ever. I have never supported nor will I ever support this business model. There is no Kasumi or Zaed in my Mass Effect.

This being said... I can certainly understand the outrage caused by this announce. Bioware digs its grave a little deeper and clearly is no longer the respectable developer it used to be.

Mass Effect 3 is a liberation. I will conclude my Shepard story and then goodbye Bioware. It's been good as long as it lasted.

Ur missing the point. The problem is that Bioware, EA is fragmenting their game so that if the consumer wants the full game they need to dish out more than $60. The content is available at lauch and had been planned ahead of time because, apparently, months ago it was anounced that the more expenive CE would get an extra squad mate and mission. In every case for every other game that I know of the standard edition was the full game and the CE included stuff like artbooks or action figures or something like that. Not game content like missions and squadmates.

If we the consumers support companies who have first day DLC and withhold important game content for collectors editions then we are allowing for these practies to become the norm in the future. If this is successful for EA, Bioware then they will continue ****menting their games and making it more expensive for us, the consumers, and other big developers will adopt the same policies because they know that they can get away with it.

It's not important game content.  It's all auxillary.  It may be important to you as a fan of the lore, but it's not to the game itself.

I don't agree with how it's being handled, but don't be claiming that it's a part of the full game when it is not.

I think I heard this before. But they just keep coming back! :o

Well a lot of people are just fans of ME/Shepard not Bioware. Once ME/Shepard is gone the hold is broken so to speak.
Just like a ton of people over on the DA forums won't touch ME with the proverbial 10ft pole.

A lot of people are going to swallow this because this is a series they have invested 5 years of thier lives in (hopefully not continuously) after all.

The continuously part might actually be true. I remember seeing somebody on here that mentioned they had 38 Shepard playthroughs for import into ME3. That seems very excessive but hey, whatever floats your boat.

Also, I think a lot of people (not all) will come back if they make a new ME adventure that provides choice and a great story. They might be skeptical at first and not pre-order or anything but if it's a well crafted game in the ME universe, a lot of people won't be able to resist coming back because they love the lore and universe so much.

That's insane.  I have one for each character class and I thought I was excessive.  And having played every Bioware game to date, I won't be going anywhere.  I just enjoy their work too much.

I want to see proof that SE is not the full game, unfortunately unless someone here has already got their hands on the SE and done a comparison by purchasing the DLC, then all this is just talk.

I just read about this DLC and listened to the Totalbiscuits video. I'm a huge fan of DLC and have bought ever single DLC Bioware has ever released since the XBOX came out. And I gotta say this is a really ****ty move on their part. I believe Mr. Gamble when he says it was not part of the original game and that they developed it separately. But you chose to develop a goddamn Prothean squad member as optional content. Considering the lore of Mass Effect that's flat out ridiculous. And then you charge $10 for it? Sleazy. Pure, plain and simple.

I've always been quick to dismiss people who have said Bioware's partnership with EA is toxic. The ones who continually stated that EA would change Bioware's way of doing business and ultimately hurt the customers who have followed them all these years. But between this DLC, the Deception debacle, and the Dragon Age 2 disaster I'm seriously questioning whether or not the naysayers have been right all along. Again I've bought every Bioware game and DLC since KOTOR. So this isn't somebody standing on the sidelines pointing fingers at your content. This is a loyal rabid fan saying what you're doing is FLAT OUT WRONG.

Just reading the script, you can tell it is not a part of the main game.  Hence why I have no idea what is all in the DLC B) and can only guess why we see Javik shooting up Collectors.

Seriously though, I FEEL CHEATED and made a fool with this DLC.

My question now is, "How did they approach the introduction of this character?"

Did they just paste it in the middle of the story then put a HUGE SIGN that says, "OH, OH, there's an awesome twist to the story here! BUT YOU NEED TO GIVE ME MORE MONEY TO GET IT, PRESS HERE!!!"

Unfortunately, if they didn't charge for it, then everyone who puchased the CE would be up in arms.  Bioware put themselves between a rock and a hard place with this one.  It is a crappy situation for sure.  The way I look at it, I get more out of Bioware's games for my gaming buck so the extra $10, while completely uncalled for, is not that bad.

No.  You get a call to go to Eden Prime if you have the DLC.  If you don't have the DLC, you won't see a bloody thing.

I wonder if anyone realized that the download size for the DLC was over 700MB. No, I don't believe this to be a DLC. Not a file that size, it would had to be an expansion pack as far as I believe. The Prothean has always been part of Mass Effect lore, regardless of their irrelevance in ME2. Something this big and this important has got to be part of the original content. Even some of the peeps hacked into the demo to find audio files OF THE PROTHEAN SPEAKING! Now argue about that.

Kasumi was a bigger download than From Ashes.  So, please stop with the conspiracy theories.

EA and Bioware have successfully incresed the price of the game without annoucing that full game costs $70. This is because some consumers are not smart enough to see what is really going on here.

Just like how people hacked ME2's files when they came out and discovered audio files of Kasumi, IIRC. There's placeholding content in the game, that's so it doesn't take forever to integrate or risk glitching your saves.

The game discs in the CE and SE are exactly the same.  From Ashes is a DLC for the CE as well, they just get a code for it.

Oh yeah what about Kasumi? I bet she costed more than 10 bucks too? She basically like Zaeed almost has no dialogue at all aside from unique on mission dialogue. And She basically has one mission to her. And her pricing is lower then FroM ashes.
