They sure did screw up in not giving SE owners DLC for free that CE owners paid for. Man did they F*ck this one up.

CE owners shouldn't have had to pay for it either.  The whole CE/SE divide is a distraction from the point.

Because typically in the entertainment industry, as costs rise so do the prices.  Go and compare prices for professional sporting events since 2005.  Movies, theater, restaurants, etc., etc., etc.  Yet games have remained constant at $60.  Would you rather pay $60 with optional DLC or $80-100 for the game on release day.

I still don't see how you can factor out the amount of sales just like that, expecially with digital distribution like steam, as there's no packaging cost involved. And I don't think you can compare the game industry with other industries so easily.

http://latimesblogs....r-2006-npd.html

And sure, servies like Steam alleviate some of the take that retailers get, but the fact of the matter is that video games are driven by console sales this generation.  While still a better gaming experience with a PC, sales on console far outweigh those on PC.

(I hope it's the collector assault rifle, and NOT the N7 valkryie)

It's safe to assume it won't be a Collector weapon, but a Prothean weapon. I believe this member uses Shotguns? So, Prothean Shotgun, I'm calling it.

It's the Prothean weapon shown in the screenshots.  The Collector's Rifle is already in the main game (at least in multiplayer).

So, I looked at the ME3 website screenshots and I couldn't find any of this. Can you link me?

A Prothean was in concept with the first script.  He was written out due to some major narrative issues, and wasn't present for a while.  So he was, based on what was present, taken out for the sake of plot (thank god for that).

Then Javik appeared in a later script with some lines of dialogue to be used in VO sessions.

They don't even seem to be the same character in my understanding of the content of both scripts a Prothean is present in.

So while a Prothean was taken out of plot, and Javik was added to be DLC since they already had some of the concept work on hand and dialogue written out.  Basically utilizing the resources they already had, like they did with the Batarians in Bringing Down the Sky.

Lets hope you're right, I have lost faith in BioWare's writing after playing through ME2's meaningless plot, and the demo's dialogue didn't improve my opinion much, but lets hope you're right.

I still find hard to accept having a breathing prothean in the universe that has no mayor importance.

Didn't Casey Hudson himself state the DLC comes free with the CE? You paid more for it only because of the swag?

Trust me: the math on the CE works out in their favor.

As I've said before, my only problem with it is the nature of the DLC. Day 1 DLC is fine when it's weapons or not plot related. The problem is when you get ones like Warden's Keep (most powerful sword in the game, some of the best armor) or the one from DA2 with the Prince (because without him you have no reason to care about the Chantry at all unless your Brother was the surviving sibling).

I hate to say it but Bioware has a track record for making day one DLC that are somewhat important to the game in some way and the idea of a live Prothean seems a pretty big deal in the ME universe.

I didn't pay more for it because of the swag.  I paid more for it because it advertised an additional character and mission.  At 41, the patch and postcard sized art book really aren't a draw for me.  And I think Casey's twitter post on that is an issue of semantics - By free he meant it was included in the $80 CE price that was as advertised.

Why is it a distraction. Bioware is selling it as an extra option to SE owners and CE owners get the all-in package. There is no precedent for you to demand something which is optional and sold as an addon. No matter when it gets released.

It's part of how Bioware's spin control works.  A few guys that post here have long been suspected of being plants EA uses to turn gamers against each other rather than risk them uniting against Bioware/EA.  It's just another form of PR.

Are you ****ing kidding me!?!  Let's keep the crazy down to a manageable level shall we.  Lol.

Yes, I know that. I pre-ordered the CE myself. But with so many people saying that we paid for the DLC in the CE and being quite frankly sardonic with it(see above statement) I was wondering if I was right in the fact that Casey Hudson has said on a few occasions that the DLC comes free with the CE. I could have sworn I read some tweets and if I am not mistaken, I think it has been said in this thread or the old one. Since they are holding on to every word Bioware says and using it to build their arguments like this ^^, I was curious.

He might have used it as in "free of extra charge" but in the end you pay for it, period. No company is mad enough to give away stuff for free unless they get something for it in return. A company like Bioware who makes money off content isn't just going to give content away for free, no matter if you buy CE, the price of the DLC is calculated into the price.

If they start giving it away to SE buyers then I want a refund.

No one has any proof that Prothy is plot essential until they play the game/DLC. Yes, he's a Prothean and I understand the importance of the race to some of us, the players, but how many characters in the game are going to believe he's a Prothean and not just a Collector or some other disguised or modified race? In game, no one really, truly knows WHAT Protheans even looked like 50,000 years ago. For that, how will they care? If they did believe, would they honestly believe he'd have some insight into how to defeat the Reapers, when the Protheans to begin with were more or less wiped out by them? Plus, you know... the galaxy is kind of going to hell in a hand basket, so I would think some folks would have more important things to worry about than some random alien popping up and claiming to be part of an extinct race.

And, please note, this IS the company that got caught trying to load review scores on Metacritic.

It might come as a surprise, but for some companies, they feel that the best way to make money in the long run is to have the good will of their customers. Giving away things for free is one way to gain good will.

Bioware used to be like that, but for me, they've burned away most of it in the last few years.

You may think that's why you paid more for it, others may disagree. Personally, I didn't buy it for the extra character and mission. It was a nice perk, but not why I purchased it. Did Casey Hudson come out and recant his statement about it the DLC being free with the CE? It can't be an issue of semantics unless he recanted or said otherwise that it was taken out of context. Especially for the ones building their arguments on the statements Bioware are presenting. You just can't pick and choose the excerpt of statements that best suits you. It isn't an either/or situation. You either believe what Bioware says about the DLC or you don't.

About the bold, did he come out and say that or is it conjecture on your part?

@ZX12r Ninja

It's included in the extras you get with CE... It's not free as you pay extra to get it.

Again, is this conjecture or did Casey Hudson say this? Because, I believe the word he used was free.

The developers said it came free in the ce edition so then why is it not free for every edition. If its because the ce edition is 20 dollars more then that means they lied and are atcually charging for it.Either way it really doesnt add up.

And Zaeed made money off of used copies. I don't know if anyone has posted this image yet so I will. http://img.gawkerass...ng/original.png

As nobody has said it, I'll be the first to say it. That looks like a rather HUGE DLC. Spanning what looks like 2 planets and the Citadel. Looks like it's worth the 10 bucks extra.
