The problem is this DLC business is getting out of control. Where do you draw the line? Now? Or when we *have* to pay for DLC because half the game has been chopped off to make DLC?

For me?  Later.  When the inevitable happens, I'll have a good stockpile of old games I can play again and again until the industry straightens itself out.

ME3 is probably going to be the last new game I buy for a very long time, anyway.  There's a seriously long list of older stuff I never got into.  Like, seriously.  You wouldn't believe the stuff I haven't played yet.

If ME3 really is the game that crosses the line, I'll probably make just one post explaining why, then quit the fandom.  No point in wallowing in my grief.

NOO!! you can't leave! You are one of the few voices of constant amusement and reason! So here's hoping ME3 doesn't cross that line for you.

It wasn't been known for a while.

If you carefully looked at the CE box , and people should have had this in their head when ME2 had day 1 dlc(even if it was free).Always expect the unexpected people

the CE box said a "character", it wasn't adverticed as a prothean. And not everybody is reading every news and spoiling themselves about the game.

But let's be honest if you put prothean squad mate on their , you would have had another group complaining the game was spoiled for them.

Then is expected to see the shock that is going on now, when BioWare confirmed that the character is a prothean.

I'm talking about companies that have always been console companies.Something like big games to where you can't finsh a game until you buy mutiple levels

What next: 'Well, I meant only games published on Dreamcast...'?

At this point you're just being silly.  And sadly enough I have an example, unless Square is too 'PC' for your taste:

Final Fantasy IV: The After years.  (Was not relased in the US.)

Personally, though, I think of Sam & Max as a AAA title and that they should have counted.

How ? , I'm just trying to get you to understand what you are saying hasn't happened. So far their isn't any direct evidence that proves the AAA titles are about to be like MMO's.

Utterly irrelevant!

She states STRAIGHT from the start that she's aware that her position as a Bioware employee means people likely are going to take anything she says with a grain of salt!  That alone makes her far more trustworthy, because she knows the typical reaction to anything she says will be like what you've demonstrated.

She also answers their questions in much the same way as Casey AND Mike.  And since Casey is basically THE top of the food-chain, so there's no reason to disbelieve it, or to make the claim that he's lying!

Cool that means everytime a pr person starts with i doubt people will believe me because im getting paid to defend this company. They are trustworthy.I want to get in that field if its that easy.

It's fine if you want to belittle her or her position, but that doesn't change anything.  I'm fairly certain you wouldn't believe it if the entire company said the exact same thing.  But I suppose you're the kind of person who believes the entire company is dishonest simply because they're a company.

I know , but I mean third game mystery dlc character. That tells you however it is was going to be somewhat special , and the fact bioware got quite when asked if it was a prothean.

Again, the Prothean thing was announced, Chris swore on a stack of bibles that it was a mistake and that the Prothean was cut and that no such DLC existed and they made a point to remove the CE pics that showed the Prothean announcement. This was 9 months ago.

So, let's stop and think about it: They covered up it existed by lying, and wonder why people don't trust them now?

Did he state outright that no such DLC existed?  As I recall, his only information was that the information had to be taken down.  In fact, if I recall, he was intentionally vague as to wether the information was factual or not.

How does admitting she's bias make her more likly to tell the truth?  It's a typical PR line that you've fallen for hook line and sinker.  The only way any of this will be known for sure is if Bioware comes clean w/ a full definitve run down of what the DLC contains (this they will never do b/c if ppl knew the full content of DLC they rarely buy it) or we wait until release and see for ourselves.

This is the part that bothers me.  Regardless of the truthfullness of either side, putting day 1 payed dlc will hurt overall sales.  All the drama this has drummed up can only lead to more ppl pirating, buying used, renting, waiting for a sale, not buying on day 1 to see how it plays out, or just plain not buying.

I don't undertand how bioware/ea thought this wouldn't turn into what it has become.  Why didn't they delay the dlc even by a week or two?  Seems like a stupid decision regardless of the reality behind the content.

I wouldn't say dis-honest , just not confirming information. But in my book their's certain things to trust and other things you can quickly tell when their lying on purpose to customers.Even then my thing is it a big deal or small deal.

A PR line.  I doubt it.  Her only admission is that she's an employee of Bioware.  That doesn't make her biased.  I wasn't aware working for a company made her intentionally biased.  Besides, the only things she was allowed to discuss were those things that DIDN'T result in spoilers, again, as she states.

Also, of course they won't tell us what's in the DLC.  For starters, companies wouldn't give out such spoilers.  Secondly, even if they told us, I'm fairly certain people would STILL disbelieve them.

And as for the timing of the DLC, you realize what would happen if they delayed it right?

I'll put it down here so people can't miss it:

1) Bioware finishes "From Ashes"
2) CE buyers pick up their copy of ME3, which will contain a code for "From Ashes" as it was promised to them as a part of their purchase of the CE
3) They delay "From Ashes" for everyone else who did NOT buy the CE
4) A week or two later, those with the SE get "From Ashes"

That would've been infinitely WORSE publicity.

When casey said the dlc was free for ce buyers he lied plain and simple.I have never seen a company give half of their paying customers conternt for free it wouldnt make sense. So if they got it because they paid more money then other customers how is it free. Its not its just a marketing gimmick.so yeah i dont believe a word they say.

And I'm afraid I can't agree with him.  What does he think the team is doing between certification and when the game finally goes gold?  Sitting around twiddling their thumbs and waiting for the announcement?  The problem with this, is he sounds like an armchair developer.  He claims to understand how the process works, when it's clear he doesn't.

"If it's done before the game is ready it should be free?"

Does he realize the DLC wasn't complete until AFTER certification had already begun, at which point it was impossible to do anything?

Comes free with new copies, you gotta pay for access for used copies. IMO, multiplayer is better than Zaeed.

Yeah , the rest of it made no sense.I guess the regular employees don't deserve time off and bonuses for their hard work. And where does the money come from , the company. It's how they keep their employees happy and not leave them miserable especially when the dlc money roles in.

...So where in this does Chris say the Prothean straight up doesn't exist.  All it means is that the information wasn't mean to be released.

His points are completely valid for the most part. His comments about large highly successful companies needing the be defended is very pertinent. Large financially stable companies like bioware/ea and blizzard need to be held to account by consumers.  Since they are so independently powerful and command such reputations they could make
the worst game ever seen and sell millions.  These companies are slowly starting to realize they can not only get away with pretty much  anything, but that their legion of fans will unquestionably support them.

I love bioware to death, but they do not need their hands held.  They need their feed held to the fire and be made to
make unquestionably superior games.  Do I think ME3 will be awesome? Absolutely and I expect no less for Bioware b/c of their track record, but that does not mean we shouldn't always be proactive in reminding them why we buy their games.  We need to stop buying b/c their name is on the cover, but rather b/c there is an awesome product inside that has been created w/ the best interest of the consumers in mind.

Yes, companies our out to make money, but we as consumers have the power to ensure that the best way to make money is by making excellent games.

But there's no lie.  It's old information.  Notice the current advertisement just says "Bonus Squadmate/Mission".  So the OLD advertisement stated "Prothean Squadmate/Mission"

Obviously it wasn't intended to give out that information so early.
