actually skins for multiplayer games are pretty important, it's one of the reasons why the skins in league of legends sell so well, everyone likes to pimp out their character.
and actually if you can unlock them all just by playing the game all the better.
if the prothean DLC code (per copy so as to not appear in an used copy playthrough) was a reward for clearing the playthrough on insanity or something it would be awesome

But they don't really do anything. It's like the difference between Armani and and off the peg.

The DLC for ME3 actually does something.

it's a different mindset, for people who love story content something like the prothean is essential
while multiplayer bling is just as essential for players who like the co-op mode.

I've got to be honest, guys. If ME3 had a hat-based DLC I'd buy it in a heartbeat. A tophat is just what my Shepard needs to go with his formal wear.

exactly. Im sure new players who primarily play the co-op mode would think nothing of Protheans and it wouldnt be essential to their experience at all.

Its all opinion based.

The Prothean does something, that's not really disputable. Sure you can argue how important it is, but thats it. By it not being there your game will be different.

Cosmetic stuff is purely in the eye of the beholder it has no function. Sure If I wear an Armani people will treat me differently, but it's functionally the same as an off the peg suit.

Word. Or a fabulous bowler hat. I'd be throwing my money at the screen. Repeatedly.

By the Prothy DLC being there your game will be different, and you will pretty much be the only one to see that unless you show your game off.

By having a top hat and monocle in a multiplayer game your character will be different and people will treat you accordingly?

same thing basically.

And you know this Prothean does something how? You have played the game already? Read the leak script?

So far, from myself not doing either I don't see how Prothean boy (if he is a boy, yes he may sound male, but do we really know about Prothean gender) brings nothing but an extra gun (pew pew) and XP lots and lots of that wonderful XP. No super space ship to fight reapers, no reset button, just an other new grunt.
That seems pretty cosmetic to me.

They do, but only for 360 :crying:

Then again, PS3 doesn't really have the same kind of avatars as the 360 does, so even if they had avatar stuff for PS3, it wouldn't be half as fabulous.

Both forms of DLC do something. The importance of the something is simply in the eye of the beholder.
For Multiplayer having a unique or highly exclusive appearnce is probably important as a mark of individuality for example.
(However I don't often play multiplayer so that's not important to me.)

I read earlier in the thread that the Prothean is supposedly in the game without the DLC, so the main story of the game will be unchanged if you have the DLC or not.

The importance of any DLC is purely up to the opinion of the individual consumer.

that was posted yesterday around the 300ish page mark I think, and read it then. And have to say I agree with him.

Now It seems its gamers are trying to justifying themselves for why it’s not their fault this happened, when lets all face facts. It clearly is.  So please forgive my use (once again) of animal metaphors.
I am a gamer, but also a free thinking individual that doesn’t bow into peer pressure, I make my own choices and I live with the consequences. So it goes to say that when I hang out with sharks, tigers and dragons I know what I’m getting myself into.  These are dangerous things and I need to tread lightly and handle with care, when dealing with them. I knew what fustian bargain I was getting myself into when I bought into ME1&2 and any other game EA helps over see. They’re EA after all, if at this point in time you don’t know they are Evil INC more fool you, they’ve been it since like 2001, EA being evil isn’t news, it’s a well established fact.  If you were fool hardy enough to think otherwise you are either one of two things, a complete and utter eejit with sawdust for brains, or worst an Idealist, and I long for the days when we can lock up Idealist and throw away the key, but alas communism failed.
SO lets all face up to “we knew what we were getting into”.
If you go swimming with tigers prepare to get roasted!

… and I think I just confused my animal metaphor a bit there….

this, which is why they make it optional. Believe it or not, not everybody wants this DLC.

Yes but thats besides the point.

That's not cosmetic you should look up the word cosmetic. Cheers for proving my point though.

yes I have read the leak script, and it is clear from it that prothean was part of the main game, he can't be consider just another character (asari, krogan, salarian, hanar), if you have played first 2 games you would know that.

oh, and by the way I am very sad that we won't have a krogan squadmate, but hey, he will probably go out as DLC later for only 19,99 $ B)

You seem obsessed with the meaning of words, what was it last time, complete?
Lipstick on a beautiful girl is cosmetic, a lick of paint of a house is cosmetic, and the B&B sigh and flowers I have on my welcome desk at the front door is cosmetic. These are things that add to the look and feel of an item or experience. But the item and experience is still just the same with out them.
This DLC is fan pandering fluff, why I liken the Prothean to a sheep before, he adds to it yes, the game seems nicer, but he is not need for the experience, I'll still hit the LVL cap without the XP from his mission, but it is nice that I’ll be able to do it sooner.

The meaning and usage of words are not necessarily the same, I thought you being English would understand your own langue, but then that was a large hope.
And besides that, I didn't prove your point at all.
