I honestly don't care how important Prothy ends up being. I have my opinions on him, but what I'm looking forward to is the potential of having another bada** like Wrex in my party. And Prothy just looks like he could be all sorts of bada** in his own way. Sure, learning about what he knows about his people will be cool, but still. It's just the potential for fun and bada**ery I'm looking forward to, personally.

And it is hardly a 'vocal minority' Everyone apart from the Biodrones were disgusted with that steaming pile of dog turd which was DA2, the BSN is very small, and the Biodrones on here are a pathetic number in overall sales. BIOWARE IN STEEP DECLINE.

Sorry to burst your hyperbole bubble but you have no evidence at all suggesting that those in favor of this DLC are a small minority however switching sides there is larger evidence to suggest more people are buying ME3 than past two titles. You may be leaving the franchise and spending youre money elsewhere but quite honestly it appears with regards to ME3 more new fans are being created than lost.

After ME3 comes out is when we will see the numbers significantly shift, as the customers feel they should finish the ME trilogy. DA is a fail franchise now, you just wait until the next dog turd DA comes out and see how badly it does. Your fav developer are in steep decline. You will soon see the sale numbers dwindle AFTER ME3.

Doubtful.

But if it did happen, it won't be because of optional DLC.

Not doubtful at all. And no not just because of opional DLC, DAY 1 ESSENTIAL DLC. But this is just the latest in the long line of how Bioware have treated its fans badly. And with its design decisions which its original fans do not agree with. Bioware have turned into a money grabbing developer who do not give a **** about their fans. DA2 is a prime example. BIOWARE IN STEEP DECLINE. Wait and see son.

Just because you keep saying it over and over does not make it more likely.

Just to say I didnt like the way DA2 was designed with all its reused maps. If it wasnt for that Id have kept it and missed out on Infamous 2 but still be out of luck for DLC it had. I heard its DLC is really good but I never gave it a chance due to my poor experience with the main game. No game should make you feel like you played it a bunch of times after the first and second playthrough, when I got to Act 3 I just wanted to end the story and not do sidequest because I didnt want to see Map A or Cave B again. I was ok when it came to areas like the city where it made sense but for areas that sounded like it would be a new map it was the same with maybe a rock slab blocking a couple of enterances.

Now when it comes  ME3 I seriously think this might be my last BioWare game I fully support because of the DA2 thing and now this DLC. They shouldve had the DLC information stated from the beginning if it was always going to be the Prothean DLC. When Chris said that information was an old copy type thing I was hoping it was because they did decide it was best The Prothean Squadie was in the main game and the DLC would be something completely different like a Batarian Squadmember.  Even through ME3 should be the redeeming game for BioWare because of DA2 I dont think that will be happening because the direction they took this DLC. Its actually something they now cant fix because its damned if they do and damned if they dont situation. Its very sticky and not alot of people like it.  But I also think boycotting will hurt the consumer and not them because you know you wanna finish your Shepards story so dont let your pride consume you there.

10 copies is ten copies. That's an infantismal percentage of lost sales that will be made up elsewhere. For every step back that's taken by people who don't end up buying, they'll take several more  steps forward by people that do.

Ya, I imagine the prothy going to be badass because he has a personal vendetta against the reapers, because they killed and enslaved his whole race.

He better be a badassPosted Image he's got a whole lotta payback for the reapers.

You have to learn the difference between people saying they will not order or 'claiming' they cancelled compared to those who actually follow through or had an order in first place.  It's pretty easy to say was not going to buy copy anymore if in truth never intended to in first place or saying will cancel but never doing so.

For every one you get to cancel, EA gets a hundred or thousend more ordering. You lose in that regard.

Fans five years ago: we want developers to support games with additional content to extend a games life.
Developers 4 years ago: here's some cool dlc we think you'd like for that game we made last year...
Fans 4 years ago: what crappy dlc, why did it take so long for something so crappy?
Developers 2 years ago: here's some cool dlc we think you'd like for that game we made 6 months ago...
Fans two years ago: why do you make dlc that feels so irrelevant to the game? Why did it take 6 months for that?
Developers now: if you buy a special edition version, you'll get this really cool content on release...if not, you can buy that content separately for the standard version...
Fans now: that dlc is too cool to be dlc, and I refuse to buy your game unless it's free...why are you making day 1 dlc to begin with?

As they say in South Park... Rabble rabble rabble rabble rabble!

Exactly! And that would be the only thing I'm expecting from the DLC, is for a badass Prothy. :D And it it turns out that he's not well... you know, I'm still going to like him regardless, I think.

I managed to convince everyone who had the option to rent not buy. Bugger all chance of boycotting though, far too invested in the game.Understandable It's been one heck of a series. But after ME ends it will be much easier to ignore Bioware.

Yet in the thread where he stated it, there was moaning about that being the case. People moaning that time that they wanted it to be part of the CE. Can't please everyone and now we have those moaning that it is part of the CE.

True, it sounds like you're all starving after a war and don't have enough money to buy something to eat.

I personally like story-driven DLCs and BioWare is doing a great job, if I'm going to support a developer, then it's going to be them.

Time will show. But i hink they screwed up royally on this one. And it will have very negative long term effects.

It depends how many other people convince their friends. Pre-orders are mainly from the gamer market.

I think boycotters have a right to do so if they want. However, they need to boycot right. That means abstaining from the product period. No renting, no purchasing, no dreaded-p-wording, no going to a friend's house to play it. Nothing. It's my worry that a portion of those claiming to boycot will do one of those things and think they're making a difference when they're really not. Just because you aren't giving a company money, does not mean you are boycotting them. It simply means you aren't giving them money.

New perspective:

If we can show EA that Bioware's Mass Effect games are insanely profitable (by buying extra DLC) its stands to reason that they will more strongly and assuredly support and finance future Mass Effect entries. Consider a long term investment in sheer awesomeness.

Whether they agree with me or not is irrelevant. This debate was over hundreds of pages ago, and the decision was made even before the debate began. The only thing that's going on now is data collection. Those with a grievance, compared to how many bunker down and buy the DLC on Day 1, if they haven't already purchased the Collector's Edition.

Analysis will be conducted as to whether or not such a marketing decision is worthwhile in the future.

True. But we won't know any of those numbers until after the game is out. Just because you see someone from some outside internet source saying "Not buying" or "Pre order cancelled" does not mean they've done so. The only way to know for sure that they're doing so is if you know them personally.

DLC gets a bad rep all around because no matter if it is Day 1 or Month 5 some will always believe it should have been on the disc.

About this being a integral character in the game so it should be free, i don't think so. This is my opinion on the matter. At best you would get some extra dialog on certain missions but he isn't going to have the magic Reaper killing weapon. Also i just think Bioware thought it would be cool to have "Prothy" as a playable character and I bet he sucks in combat. :D

But final numbers are difficult to project from them.

All I know is two local gamestops in my area have been sold out for months on the pre-orders for the CE, and are gaining pre-orders since the announcement of the DLC, along with point cards.

So I think in the end, the majority has spoken on this one.

I wish Bioware made role playing games the way they used to.  These days are all about 'big choices' and 'visceral combat.'  I miss those old games where you had to remember to drink water and it took five hours real time to fly somewhere.

And you have the right to think so if you want to. But even you have to admit that you truly won't know what's going to happen to this company until the game comes out and the true numbers are revealed. Until then, none of us - including myself, including yourself - will know how hard hit EA or Bioware will be from the s***storm.
