I purchased the Collector's Edition before I even knew which premium DLC would be included with it, so none of this angst is really relevant to me. I just knew that I wanted all of the other extras that we did know about at the time.

But, I'd still pay the ten dollars for the extra DLC, even if I didn't have the CE. Because if I can afford $60/$80 on a luxury item to begin with, what is ten dollars to me? I want more DLC in the future, I'll support my favorite science fiction franchise in whatever way I can. I know that I'm a ****, and I've made peace with that.

If people are going to take a moral stand, why not take it all the way and use the money saved from your your game/DLC boycott for a small donation to the Red Cross or charity of your choosing? Turn your anger into something constructive.

That is an awesome idea, and I really hope people do consider taking that course of action! It would be a wonderful way to turn their actions into constructive actions, without a doubt.

Interestingly enough, mine was part of a thousand dollar donation to a consumer's rights lobby.  Not quite as noble as Red Cross (who I already donate heavilly to) but I figured that it would be poetic justice if it forced EA to put a double opt out into Origin in the US like they did in Germany.

I tried to preorder two copies of the CE for the extra mission and character even before knowing what they were. The store cancelled them so I got left with either SE or DDE options but I am happy to go down the 2 x SE route + DLC because works out cheaper. I only ever buy story based DLC.

The price issue is a patience one for those angry over cost I feel. In few months, maybe less the price of the SE+DLC would come out around same price as current combination.

I also agree with the last paragraph, if they truly are boycotting then donating it to a good cuase would be a nice thing.

See I like this guy. I preordered this back when there was just talk of the game alone. I didn't care what I got with it. I was going to play it. So I will enjoy the game and maybe donate money to the red cross or something like child's play.

Oh well. Ever since DA2 I've thought bioware was going in the wrong direction, especially in how they treated their fanbase after that debacle.

Now with day 1 DLC and Origin I see I was (unhappily) right...

Again, oh well. No biggie. I just wont be looking at their games with much interest after ME3.

See, this is why I like science fiction fans. The vast majority are thoughtful and intelligent.
I'm glad people like my suggestion. If the Prothean can't help you save the galaxy, then I think that he might be somewhat pleased to see you serve some other cause you deem noble. Some causes I've seen mentioned above, all of them worthy.

If you see EA's business practices as greedy (I'd be hard-pressed to disagree), then screenshot or scan a receipt of your donation and show it to them. And say "Hey, I took the extra ten bucks you tried to milk me for and gave it to someone more deserving." Middle finger optional.

And actually, I haven't donated since the quake in Japan last year. So, maybe I should follow my own advice.

Folks should consider donating even if they are getting the game/DLC - if they don't agree with the practice, this could be a really great show of consumers doing something for the good.

If you actually google EA donations to charity they give too. It matters not if PR stunts, the people receiving still benefit.

How annoying! I love the Mass Effect universe and now I can't play the final one because I hate day 1 DLC and won't buy this game as a result!

You have made me very upset Bioware!

EDIT: I know they say it isn't plot critical but how can an actual Prothean that you can interact with and use in battle NOT be plot critical? The whole lore is based on the Prothean's! :(

You now, it just dawned on me that the reason this thread is so cyclical is that as people get mad enough to start thinking about doing soemthing about it, they log onto the site to ****.  And as they straggle in, it resets the arguments.

You might be right, as long as kids and stuff benefit from it I don't mind what reason.

There was article about they donating not long ago. The charity talk just reminded me of it.

STA>ST1>STU, personally could not stand STU. Too slow and too focused only bickering between people.

Even if more realistic if I want people bickering surely I can just log on to a forum of some kind.

I'm in the same boat as you.  I'd love to see people who cancelled their pre-orders make some donations.

As for me, premium DLC or not I was planning on preordering the CE anyway so it makes no difference to me.
