Nice, so Bioware have a track record of pulling that kind of thing? Well tickle me pink and colour me even more concerned.
And none of those things where in any way inportant for the narative or story.

I'm seeing a lot of replies for this DLC along the lines of "the dlc is there for hardcore fans who care about the story"
My reply to this:
Bioware games DEPEND on its fantastic story for its survival. This is what makes it better then most games, the fact that they're charging for critical story content is like being charged extra to use lightsabers in any of the starwars games. And yes, the race that gave Shep the ability to even know this threat is coming and warn people so we might have even the slightest chance of survival is 100% critical to the story. even if you ignore that most of the advanced tech Shep encounters in ME1 is prothean, and the fact that the collectors are protheans that were enslaved by the Reapers.
Another reply i get is "if you care about the story then buy it and shut up"
My retort: If you dont care about the story, then all i have to say is go back to battlefield 3.
You DO realise that everyone is getting the prothean in the game right? for story purposes right? and that all the DLC most likely does is adding him/her as a squadmate.
Apparently he's not in the game unless you buy the DLC - that's according to the people that have played through it already.
Pretty upsetting as the art book makes reference to the Prothean being in the game the same as several other characters such as Garrus, Liara, Ashely, EDI, Kai Leng, Kaidan, Jack, TIM, etc...
Maybe we have to pay for DLC for each of those characters to appear too. <_<

I figure From Ashes DLC is very essential since Commander Shepard is the only person who understands the Prothean Language.
Not entirely. It was never said that the Prothean language is unknown, there are many sites throughout the galaxy that have been inhabited by them, and even the hanar believe that they've given them language.
Liara studied the Protheans immensely, how do you know she doesn't know the language? Possibly she can configure the language into the universal translator everyone has, and then people can understand him.
EDIT: Plus on Ilos had a hologram (aside from Vigil), that spoke Prothean. Who's to say that there aren't more out there? Ilos was untouched for 50,000 years before Shepard and Saren arrived, there has to be a wealth of information on the Prothean language on that planet alone.

And that was for comprehending the beacons, which were neural-interface devices designed to work with Prothean brains. Learning the Prothean language was just a side-effect of acquiring the Cipher, not some ability exclusive to having it.

Probably because whatever information he's going to tell will be found or told to you in the game.
The book never says "This character will be a squadmate in the base game" does it? Your extrapolation that everything in the book without a disclaimer otherwise was in the game was wrong. That's entirely on you.NeecHMonkeY wrote...

It's not exactly the same though, is it? In fact, it's not the same at all.
This is a case of the character appearing in the book making it seem like he's a part of the game the same as all the other characters in the book and us being told that we have to pay extra if we want that...

Yeah , but that's for EA to deal with.Bioware has zero control over what dlc is offered for free or what store it's sold at.EA's the one who determines all that stuff e. Bioware could say they'll release the dlc for free , EA could force them not to.
Agreed, and this is the problem Bioware is having. Bioware can, and has, produced many great games, but EA is forcing all sort of policies and decrees on them, which is the same thing that happened to Mythic before them. I'd rather not see Bioware go the same way Mythic did.

Surely Bioware must have at least some idea what they were getting into when E.A. bought the company ?
Not every marriage is perfect, if only Bioware had the nerve or financial power to remove themselves from E.A. 's clutches.
Okay, E.A. has good distribution and marketing clout and makes people aware of the product. I feel that this whole dlc debacle was enforced by E.A. themselves, so really our anger should be directed at E.A. and not Bioware.
