Good choice. I love history. My money management skills are entirely due to my fiance. She taught me how to save. Its why I don't understand these money gripes. If they don't want to spend the money, then they shouldn't. If they're dying to know what happens during the DLC that is so expensive, they should read the wikis on them. Problem solved...

Yes they are. Read the thread, people are saying the game is incomplete without the DLC.

Naturally it is "incomplete" without the DLC as it's a part of the story you wouldn't otherwise get... but that doesn't make it "essential."

Take Legion in ME2... as a character and loyalty mission... it wasn't "essential" to the game... but it's still something you'd miss if you didn't have it.

Can anyone please clarify:

http://help.ea.com/a...-ashes-dlc-info
According to this^

You can purchase the DLC through the Playstation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, or through the Origin client.

I purchased 800 BioWare Points yesterday to buy the DLC, thinking I can get it just like I did the DLC from before. Can I use those point I bought to get the thing, or was I supposed to get it from Origin?  Did I just waste those 800 points?

You can buy the DLC over the XBL Marketplace... it used to be available because it launched too early.  It'll likely be back come launch day.

No worries, you still use BioWare Points to buy ME3 DLC on PC.  It's just handled via the Origin overlay this time, instead of how we've done it in the past.

I believe something as poiniant as having a living Prothean on your squad is something that should be an integral part of the epic finale to Commander Shepard's story. It should not be presented as an extra or some kind of throwaway feature.

I understand Bioware's desire to discourage people from buying used games. Then why is this character not included with new copies of Mass Effect 3 (via an online pass, which I'm sure the game will have anyway)?
In Mass Effect 2, the Cerberus Network was included if you purchased the game new but if you bought the game used and wanted the Cerberus Network, you had to pay to download it. This seemed an effective way to please then fans and punished peopple who buy used. It baffles me that this same model is not being used again.

Not all fans of the series will want to buy the collector's edition, not everyone wants the collector's items that are external to the game (i.e the artbook, lithograph, etc.) but I am sure that any fan of the series will want the Prothean squad mate and any fan will buy the game new.

The decision by Bioware to make the Prothean squad mate exclusive in this way has greatly disappointed me and at this point I am going to boycott Mass Effect 3. This decision has not come easily to me as I have loved playing the series and have been greatly anticipating the finale.

Bioware, I treasure your games (DA:O, DA2, ME1 & ME2), they are well crafted, with engaging characters and good stories that I am able to interact with, but your business decisions are troubling and I cannot endorse such a blatant attempt to extract money from your loyal fanbase.

I am still holding on to the vain hope that you will change your minds and include this character with all new copies of the game but if not, then I will not be buying it.

You used to be a company that seemed to genuinely care for your fans but that seems to have changed.

Whilst I'm not raging at the idea day one dlc in and of itself, I am saddened by the actual content chosen. I'm with everyone else who feels that the Protheans are such an important and enjoyable part of the lore that we have come to love that it should be in the main game.

If they want to sell day one dlc they should just make an exciting mission without any links to things so intensely related to the ongoing saga and it's history. I don't care how unique the mission is - have Shepard riding on the back of a shuttle dual wielding Cains and include a bonus strip club in the Normandy for all I care - I wouldn't mind and I wouldn't feel left out.

However, a Prothean side mission with a squad mate? It's exactly the sort of thing people have been waiting to see in the conclusion of the trilogy.

I bet we'll end up paying more in Europe too. $10 is what? £6.36 or 7 euros? What will the actual price be though?

You know...I think that Prothy would be an essential piece of DLC if he WASNT in fact the last Prothean alive.

I was thinking earlier about what made Legion essential to the story. Yes he is a Geth, and they are a big part of the ME universe. He doesn't really seem to be all that important though. You just kind of stumble upon him and he gives you some info on the Geth. You could have worked around him if you wanted. But then I realized that most likely without him...there would be no possibility of an alliance with the Geth in ME3. In fact you can just sell him as scrap in ME2, which would be a huge mistake. but you know...if Legion was just some Geth Robot you found and had no ability to help rewrite the geth heretic "DNA"...would he really be essential? He sounds more like a DLC character to me.

and then I realized...Prothy is absolutely no use at all. The rest of his race is dead. He cant help convince anybody else to help fight the Reapers. He is just an extra pair of hands and most likely will feed you some nice little info about the Protheans that we may or may not have already known.

Think about it, if any other race in our squad in ME2, purely talked about themselves, and not much about their races, would we be fuming? Would we think that was odd? Maybe the Prothean wont even really have much to say about that stuff.

I dont know. I think a lot of you are seriously jumping the gun with all of this. Prothean is basically Legion without the loyalty mission is what im thinking. Is that really justifiable within a full purchase?

I can understand why people are angry about all this.

Firstly, the fact that a Prothean character (Who is directly linked to the Mass Effect lore unlike Zaeed/Kasumi, and what some might consider essential to the storyline) is only available as DLC rather than being part of the main game leads many to believe that this is another EA influenced attempt to make more money out of people.

I'm glad someone brought this up. Is this a Bioware decision, and EA decision, or both?

Anyway, I think the only legitimate argument here is about the price of $10. Sure, you might not want the physical trinkets that came with the CE, but they wanted to give the content as a treat for those who went ahead and bought it. Complaining about that seems like complaining that the different retailers gave bonuses. I really wanted that armor that came with the gamestop preorder, (would have been perfect for my soldier) but they ran out of CEs so I got it from best buy. Oh well.

And I still say they should have left the protheans whiped out!

I just dont see why they didn't put this DLC as a reward for buying the game new.
I will probably still get it eventually, or just go on youtube and watch someone else do it?

I love history as well, but would have never picked it as a profession.

What can you do with a major in history?  Teach high school?  Also, what do you do with a minor in political science considering anything less than a phd in that field is totally useless.

Anyway, have fun, continue your support for EA/bioware, I suggest buying 5 copies of the DLC.

I've already downloaded 'from Ashes' DLC for xbox360, do I have to purchase it again to play it on the PC? Origin is currently asking me to pay 800 bioware points for it. Shouldn't I be able to play it on both platforms once it becomes registered in my Bioware account which it currently isn't.

Also does anyone know if all the Origin DLC like the AT-12 raider shotgun, armours and pre-order weapons can be also used on xbox 360 version? The incisor rifle code for ME2 gave options for both xbox360 and PC.

Many employers don't care what your degree is in, as long as you have a degree. For instance, I want to join the Marines and go to OCS to become a helicopter pilot. They don't care what my degree is in, as long as I have one. As for the Political Science minor, I'm not looking to make a career of politics (anymore). Politics just interest me, and I need a minor apparently, so there you go.

And yes, I am a fan, but not unreasonably so. I pre-ordered the N7 CE, so I'll get the DLC for free!

It does concern me that s/he is DLC. Could end up being a disheartening minor part of the plot. (Which would be an insult to the lore) I just hope the don't make it like Kasumi/Zaeed. I want to find a Prothean.Image IPB  I want to shake hands with a Prothean.Image IPB I want to shoot badguys with a Prothean.Image IPB I DEMAND to talk to a Prothean and not have it talk AT me. Hey now, my dad knew a guy who majored in history and managed a branch of a department store chain. When you get to University-level history, its less about remembering dates and more about cause-and-effect and critical thinking. Also, a certain presidential candidate (not everyone likes, but still) has a history degree. It's not as useless as you'd think.

^^ Jerk-move.... Clever. But still bad. I was EXTREAMLY carful to avoid spoilers (The Prothean was one I pulled out all stops for) You sir, have ruined a significant part of my ME3 experiance and I dislike you for it. I do not, however, disrespect you or your damn-fine Samurai armor.
