Just how on earth did you rationalise this absurd decision? I'm going to get this - but I am certainly not going to pay extra for it.

Wow, just found out about this. I have supported you, Bioware, by buying ME1 + 2 and all available DLC. Having day-one DLC you have to pay for is one thing. Having day-one DLC that includes a PROTHEAN SQUADMATE is an entirely different matter. I preordered ME3 already - I'm pretty sure I'm entitled for this to be included in the original game.

Finally someone smart enough to see through this blatant ripoff unlike some typical blind fanboys defending their precious little company

Some of us aren't fanboys. I just like Mass Effect. I could care less about Bioware.

Suppose I ought to clarify that I'm buying this (or planning to) for the PC. Responses, anyone?

Is there a narrative reason for this, or is it just a big middle finger to everyone who was offended by JarJar Binks?

But I'm not gonna do that with ME3. I just want to finish this trilogy as soon as possible.

Um no sir. buying a pack of hotdogs (10) when a pack of hotdog buns is only 8 is a rip off. Makeing some extra lore fluff optional for 10 dollars is not.

1) They already have pre-order bonus's you're not entitled to anything than a complete game. =O you a standard edition of a game, you're not entitled to extras
2) How dare a business company try and make more money by coming up with an extra that a bunch of people want and have to pay for. This coming from the guy who can't tell opinion from fact, TB had an opinion you without thinking on your own have blindly decided to follow him. Pot. Kettle. Black

Ditto, the only time I heard an accent (I am assuming this is a north african accent) was from josh stone from RE5.
Looking forward to chatting with him.

Well more Speciast than anything....The Volus dont sound American at all, more so lil canadian tradesmen..god there so cute, lil angry economically backstabbing kittens. Back on point however, making the prothean sound african sounds kind of interestng. Afro-linguistic dialects usually play on mental strings as bringing a sound of humble confidence.

I didn't say anything about being racist, I just want to know the rationale behind it. It's laugh/cringe inducing for every alien species to speak with one accent and then for no reason at all have a prothean running around speaking something else.
The reason people accused George Lucas of racism with JarJar is because they added an ethnic voice to the series just to make him a bumbling moron. I don't know whether that's the case with Javik or not, but it's not what I'm asking about.
It's just strange, and I'm interested in whether there's an explanation for it or we're just supposed to accept it. I don't understand it as a real-life decision and I don't understand it within the narrative of the game.

Some audio from the game paints Javik as, like, a new Wrex. Really violent and disturbing humor. It's awesome.

I thought the choice of voice was symbolic in many ways. Africa is one of the cradles of life and civilization, along with Arabia and the rest of the Middle East. It's a tip to the hat of that, I felt. And honestly, its a very unique design choice to make someone go against stereotype, at least from the sound file I heard. I could totally be wrong though.

Well, Bioware says that if you were a REAL fan, you would have paid them extra for the CE and you wouldn't be in this mess.
Because that's what loyal customers do: open their wallets and say "by all means, take what you like."

Well then add a human African squad mate and be done with it. I understand why HUMANS have regional accents, I don't understand why alien species do.
* Or, more specifically, I don't understand why every other alien in the galaxy would speak with one accent and then they'd add a new character who speaks an entirely different one.

By trying to broaden the cultural background of the voice cast and increase the diverse nature of the universe, the game is illogical? Because the game was completely accurate, what with the FTL travel, the reviving the dead from the grave, and natural quantum communications, but the moment some diversity was added the game became too unbearably inaccurate.

Simple really, uniqueness to each other.
The Quarians for example have a primarily eastern or indian quality to most of their voices, the Salarians have a fast-talking, unintelligable accent, the Asari all sound different based on their stage of maturity I noticed, and the Krogan have the gutteral sound going on.
If all of the aliens sounded like humans, it would be boring in the end. To make accents, tone and speech patterns different for each race makes them stand out more and make the cultures more unique. Basic design 101 really. So to make the only Prothean sound african was just a simple choice to make him stand out I felt. Add to the fact that its representative of something in history and science makes it sweeter, in my opinion.

Umm, what? The game is illogical because every alien in it (no matter how diverse) speaks (or is heard by humans) in one dialect, and now for no reason (I'll assume the fact that people keep distracting from the question rather than answering it that nobody has a real reason), they decided the Protheans should be heard in some African/Caribbean dialect.
Whether it's illogical depends entirely on the justification for it, which is what I'm asking to hear.
If there's no reason at all, then why not just add an African human character who speaks with an African accent? Why run against all the established logic of the series just for that?
Unless, of course, the only reason the prothean character is a prothean is because it's the only way they'd be able to justify charging an extra $10 for it.
