By trying to broaden the cultural background of the voice cast and increase the diverse nature of the universe, the game is illogical? Because the game was completely accurate, what with the FTL travel, the reviving the dead from the grave, and natural quantum communications, but the moment some diversity was added the game became too unbearably inaccurate.

Umm, what?  The game is illogical because every alien in it (no matter how diverse) speaks (or is heard by humans) in one dialect, and now for no reason (I'll assume the fact that people keep distracting from the question rather than answering it that nobody has a real reason), they decided the Protheans should be heard in some African/Caribbean dialect.

Because the Quarians don't have an accent. Oh wait they do. Well they don't play some huge role, right? Oh wait.

The entire problem is that he DOES sound like a human!  The other alien species are given distinctly alien manners of speaking (aside from the Turians, who seem to have pretty much nailed it).

The problem with Javik is not that he doesn't sound human enough, it's that he sounds like a human from Brazzaville for no discernible reason.

It's basically an uncanny valley problem.

They don't have an easily placeable HUMAN accent.   That you continually misstate my argument suggests to me that you can't really answer the question I'm asking.

Yeah, they do. It's a Romani, or at the very furthest, general Middle Eastern accent.

I guess I just don't see it as a problem in the end. Maybe if you heard other prothean speak the same accent then I bet this issue would go away. I don't know dude.

You can't say it's easily placeable and then say "well they could be Gypsies or they could be some Middle Eastern thing."  And you're talking just about Tali herself, not about the entire species.

Again, I understand that some people didn't have a problem with a Jamaican alien showing up in Star Wars, that's fine.

I'm not asking people to be angry, I'm just asking about whether there's an explanation for it.  I don't understand why so many people are arguing with the premise instead of just answering the question.

I get that, and I'm not asking you to have a problem.  I'm just asking whether the rationale for it (both in the real world and within the context of the story) has been explained.

Because I'm not gonna lie, I laughed the first time I heard it.  Thank god I got that out of the way before the game drops, because it really would have hurt the suspension of disbelief for me.

Well I know a majority of the aliens use translators of some sort to communicate with each other. I think the thing is we just hear what humans would hear in the translator in the end.

Or I could be talking out of my butt. I do believe they mentioned this in-game.

(Romani is a culture of people referring to those that migrated from the Indian subcontinent into Europe. You just called them Gypsies. That's like calling the Visigoths "barbarians", it completely invalidates their culture.)

Okay, simple explanation is Mass Effect. It's plot spackle.

Why can we travel fast? Mass Effect.
Why do we have guns with no ammo clips? Mass Effect.
Why are there space psychics? Mass Effect.

Why does that guy have a funny accent? Mass Effect. Works just as well.

And I swear if you take this seriously then I will Mass Effect your Mass Effect until it Mass Effects.

I seem to recall that as well, which is why I'm asking.  If the aliens speak in their own tongue and future humans have devices that translate the alien languages into English, then I'm really curious to know why it turns the prothean tongue into whatever that is Javik has going on.

It doesn't work just as well because none of those other ideas are self-contradictory.  I'll accept "we can travel fast," as a matter of suspending disbelief.

But if in ME3 only people from the Western hemisphere got to travel fast and people from the Eastern hemisphere had to travel slow, I'd say "hold on a tic, that doesn't make any sense, where's the logic?"

I'm not asking for the game to be consistent with the real world, I'm asking the game to be consistent with itself.

It doesn't make sense anyways, the Southern and Western Hemisphere aren't exclusive. There's overlap.

Well, it could be an issue where only shepard hears him at first because of the whole "think like a Prothean" thing in Mass Effect 1. Plus we don't know if he learns the language in stasis or not or anything like that. That is speculation at this point though.

I mean, personally, even though I know it's an African accent, it does sound Jamaican and my theory is that Javik was just the Prothean stoner, and all stoner cultures across every species sound exaactly the same, so he sounds 'normal'. [Joke]

Yeah well I only have 12 grand a year total in income. The developers must get way more than that so I do not feel bad for them at all. A small DLC would not take months to make. The only way it would take months is if only 1 person was working on it.

It is not childish I am 30 years old I remmeber when DLC was free. That is right on the PC many add ons were free and some still are. Take Left for Dead 2 not only was all the DLC the first game was free with it. Since it is on steam I literally do not need to even lift a finger to get it.

I can tell since Steam will begin downloading something. So when done I will start it up to see new levels in there.

I do not think it is childish at all to expect a game to give free DLC if I pre ordered it. The DLC should be free as a perk for pre ordering. A I scrath your back you scratch mine sort of thing. Though somehow Bioware has mistook the word scratch for stab. But stab is really  a metiphore for taking more from my wallet.

Also if you can't see the arrogance in what they said I am not going to try and convince you. Some people thankfully have seen it for what it is as well. The fact some get it at least is something.

Be glad you make 12k a year, because I work full-time and still make less. You think you have it rough? I'll tell you something. I don't complain about these things. My reason?

Game developers don't have it nearly as easy as you think. Consider their job:

-They have to stay on top of emerging hardware/software technologies.

-They have to meet near-impossible deadlines often.

-They have to create virtual worlds that captivate the audience.

-They have to create stories that keep players entertained for hours.

-They have to ensure that the gameplay is smooth and fun.

And many more reasons.

Now granted, some development firms make some really shoddy games that don't deserve that sort of defense, but companies like Bioware don't follow that path. Bioware has made excellent games for years, so in my mind, they more than deserve the money they make. They work hard for their money and they make quality merchandise.

Even forgetting that, you have to realize that times are changing. With new technologies being introduced into gaming, the stakes are higher. Companies are required to meet new standards in rigid time-frames. To expect them to release everything for free is childish and unreasonable. They spent the last two years making ME3, so they probably need a break. Cut them some slack...

Of course, since your pockets are so light, perhaps you should forgoe buying the game altogether. It would certainly be easier on you. I'll just hang on to my two N7 Collector's Editions... The ones I somehow managed to save up money for. While planning a wedding. And paying my tuition.

Edit: Left 4 Dead is easy to release free DLC for... They're essentially just map packs.

Maybee I whould mention I have a degenerative muscle condition and cannot do other things. All I have is gaming for entertainment. MY condition gives me expenses many do not have.I have to for example buy meal substitutes because the callories I need just to do anything is more than a person could eat in a day. That is expensive.

So I am supposed to have nothing to do at all every day all day?

MY codition is so bad it will kill me. The fact that I am 30 is actually a big deal. I was told I would not live past 19 years. Yet I am still very much alive so much they diagnosed me with another form of muscle condition. They had to since no one with the condition I was first diagnossed with has lived to be an adult. So the fact I was still alive past that made them decide to do a new kind of test finding out I have something else.

MY codition has confined me to a wheelchar and when I was walking I was not walking very well. I was walking so poorly they could have put tattered clothes on me and zombie makeup and I would have made an excellent zombie with my walk.

Gaming is 100% my only entertainment. Then when Bioware tries to make gaming more expensive than I can afford I am supposed to feel sorry for them? Unless they have the same garbage I have to deal with I don't feel sorry for them. With my new diagnossis my life expetency has only been brought up to 60 years old. That is right at 30 I am bassically middle aged.

I want people to leave me alone andstop trying to gouge me for the 30 years I have left. Other people refuse to do that. People keep upping the cost of gaming and other things just so they can line there pockets more.  I don't watch TV in Canada TV is terrible movie theaters though I could go they are really expensive.

Sure I can buy other games besides Mass Effect 3 but this game could very easy start a trend that would be the end of gaming for me. So this game could have a mass effect on gaming. Sorry had to do that to lighten the mood a bit. But anyway I wanted to explain the personal reason why I myself and angry about this whole thing.

Just purchased it, thx <3

Couldn't be arsed to get the digital collectors edition, so it was nice to be able to get the from ashes DLC. And I fully understand why you charge $10 for it, seeing as it is a CE item that you sell separately, so to say. So everybody, shush. ;) Get the CE edition and you won't have to pay for the DLC :P

I'm not a fan of DLC in general, but I realize there are differences between patches and content patches, and DLC of a substantial size that you pay for -- I kinda expect there to be smaller, free content packs aswell...

I probably won't buy alot of DLCs, but I don't mind paying for this one, since I already got the game somewhat cheaper than what a typical game costs, I remember ME2 also being on the low-end of the pricing scale, so this DLC just about makes up for it. :wizard:

Goddamn it Bioware I just watched TotalBiscuit's video about the ripoff that From the Ashes dlc is and I have to say he is 100% right! As a fan who has played ME1 and ME2 multiple times and read through the codecs extensively, read all the comics etc I am shocked and greatly disappointed that you have chosen to lock out what is arguably one of the most important characters in the game. Just how you can do this to your loyal fans is beyond me seriously...

For those who have not seen the video the guy is a well respected gaming commentator and speaks the truth. Check it out

Actually somone from Bioware did see it. I lost the link but a employee of mass effect was saying something about her wishing he was not so rash in what he said and said she was going to contact him. Was thinking of sending total biscuit a message asking if they really did contact him.

Personally, I'm not mad at them. They've earned the right to exploit (after 2 phenominal games). I plan to buy From Ashes immediately (I get it for free anyway because of Microsoft)...

To this day, I've never payed for DLC out of pocket (all through Bing searches)... and likely never will.. but I sympathize with those who have to spend hard-earned money on it.

Bioware won't feel any substantial monetary backlash with ME3 and From Ashes... their backlash (if any) will come from their next game/IP.

Wrong no one ever earns the right to exploit people. There backlash will come to there next game . I will buy Mass Effect 3 but that is the last Bioware game I will buy. I would go as far as to avoid EA games but they have taken such a big bite out of the gaming world that it would be difficult to do.

That's all very sad, and I sympathize with you, but what you're asking is for people to cut into their own paychecks to cater to you.

Forgive me of this sounds harsh, but it isn't their responsibility to make sure that the gaming needs of everyone is met. They have a product, and their livelihood depends on selling it. As evil as EA Games and Bioware may seem for not selling their games at a loss, they are still human beings... Many of whom, I'm sure, are good people just trying to make a living. I do feel for them, because I know they work hard to make electronic entertainment available to the masses and they do so in an ever evolving and expanding market.

You are right, other games are available, but so are other forms of entertainment as well.

Now I'm done appearing like the heartless, devil's advocate. Think of me however you want.
