Although i have to say that content like this should never have been "optional" dlc, its too important for the story because whoever played the other games has always heard about the Protheans, and actually meeting one alive is a must to be honest, but i can´t complain since i had it with my copy already.

Going to re-post this from the other thread, hope y'all don't mind.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please, let me explain this to you:
Mass Effect 3 is $60
One play-through is said to take 18-24 hours (or around ME2's length).
That means you're getting 1 hour of content for $3, never mind NewGame+
FINE! That's fantastic! That's what a game should be!
However, the DLC chracter is $10.
That means we should expect at least 3-4 hours of content out of that character. We all know that the missions included with these characters are usually 20-30 minutes, along with a bit of dialogue.
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. If we paid $10 per squaddie, you wouldn't even have a full crew at $60. How would you like buying the game, getting Garrus, Ashley, Vega, Liara, Tali, and The Prothean, and then that's it? No missions, no story, no cutscenes, etc. With this kind of logic, that's exactly what you'd get!
EDIT: Don't censor me when the files were clearly in the demo and the announcement was leaked long before.
LOL 18-24 hours......on a hardcore playthrough of mass effect 2 with doing every mission the game had to offer(even the silly pointless missions) it took me a whopping 44 hours on my first playthrough. This game is said to take around 35-40 hours on normal difficulty. So where exactly are you getting these numbers from?

However...
I'm not far into the 3rd game, but this mission and the backstory you get with it seems pretty essential to me, as I think it would to any ME fan. I'm fine with offering wacky side quests like Kasumi's heist as paid DLC, but putting a Prothean and some major details about the history of the universe into a separate paid download seems like a bad call.
Shame on whoever made that decision. I always get annoyed at people who don't understand how DLC development after the game goes Gold works and accuse devs of "taking stuff out of the game to hold as DLC", but this is the first time I've actually found myself agreeing with them. You win in the end because you got me to pay, but the whole thing feels gross.

Its really a bad way of milking this game for all of its worth.
I'm really sad for you Bioware, no more dignity left? EA has indoctrinated you much, I see.

I just finished Prothean DLC too and I can't believe this wasn't integrated into main game. They're even ASKING him about ways to develop *spoiler* the prothean weapon *spoiler.
Which he knows *spoiler* exactly jack-all about *spoiler*, so I fail to see how that point is relevant to the topic at hand.

But this is a valid end of the game.
Now, all other companions are $7, additional love interests are $10, and Zaed is $5 because he has no recruiting mission.
Buy and build your own team

But the cutscenes were fantastic and the character is terrific. I just wish there was twice as much gameplay to that place. Maybe meet up with the colonists or something? It just felt way too freaking short.

The mission itself was painfully short and narrow compared to Zaeed, which I think is the natural comparison in this case. Or the closest to it.

Thanks for the heads up. Getting the game on friday. I like to read tid-bits here and there so I have a better idea of what I'll be expecting.

I also found Javik to not be important in the main game. The potential was there I suppose, but what was there was a far-cry from being integral and needed to enjoy the game. I liked the cool tid-bits, don't get me wrong, but do we really need to know what the Salarians did with their eyeballs?

From what I've read, the mission you get with him appears on your list as a priority mission and not as a secondary side-quest.
Suggests to me that it was a reasonably important part of the game (important enough to be a priority mission rather than an optional side-quest) and was removed for the simple reason of charging extra for it.

Cut content and then sold as DLC is not a fair business .

If you completed the game entirely first without the "From Ashes" DLC, and then with it, then you would be in a better position to judge from an unbiased standpoint how essential it was to the plot - it may seem to hint that it is, but that does not mean a thing. People still arguing that him being a Prothean somehow makes him more important need to understand that from gameplay terms he isnt. He is simply more desirable because of who he is - that does not mean he is needed in any way.
And yet again - it was not cut content, they could not include it in the game because it was not finished by the time the game was - it was developed initially alongside the game for better integration into the story whilst they were adding audio, cut scenes etc and finished the rest afterwards. It is arguably content that could have been developed for in-game instead rather than DLC, but you can argue that any DLC could have been.
It wasn't supposed to be day 1 DLC, but the game was delayed 3 months remember.

Do I have to download this DLC before I start playing the game? Just recieved my CE and was curious if I had to. Please answer and thanks!!!
Nah man. I got an advance copy of the game before it came out and played about 10 hours until I got my hands on my CE and DLC content. I immediately proceeded to boot up Prothy's mission.
It was too short, but I loved the flashback scenes. They made my jaw drop. I would've liked to have seen him discovering the Indoctrination of his collegues, but it was overall nicely done. It was intriguing to see that the Collectors existed before the Protheans were completely wiped out.
