No offense, but something like this should have been reserved for a crucial, lengthy portion of the main campaign.
You simply show up at Eden Prime and find out there's a pod with a live Prothean. Cool, bro.

It's an entirely transparent move to make people buy new games - he has the same amount of dialogue as any other squad members other than the token plot provider (Liara). So you're not paying $10 for one mission, you're paying EA $10 to unlock the game if you buy 2nd hand.

I plan on playing the DLC after this mission.
Also, I love how many people who complain about everything still hang around the forums and still continue to buy the products they're rallying against.
I didn't buy any DLC for Mass Effect, and I only bought Lair of the Shadow Broker, the Kasumi one, and the Firepower Pack for Mass Effect 2 and I still feel like I was having a very complete game. Seriously, the amount of work and content that's in this game is phenomenal, and I think people forget when N64 games used to cost 60 bucks, have just as long development times, were a fraction of the length, and had barely any content to them and people never really complained.
If you don't like something, don't spend your money on it. Simple. Vote with your dollars.

- The content in “From Ashes” was developed by a separate team (after the core game was finished) and not completed until well after the main game went into certification.

I do not believe that for a second. In one part of the story, when Shepard is addressing his entire squad, everyone is there, in addition to a random Normandy crew member. I could not figure out for the life of me why he was there until it dawned on me. The spots in the cutscene he was occupying were the spots that the Prothean was meant to be! Now, this tells me that Bioware didn't just say, "Oh, here is an extra character and story we were not able to put into the game on time." It's more along the lines of, "We removed the character and story arc from the game completely with the intention of milking an extra couple bucks out of you saps." This isn't the first time your company has done something like this with launch date DLC either!
In Dragon Age: Origins, we needed to pay for the Warden's Keep DLC which also released on launch date. Now you can use the same excuse of it not being finished in time to be put on the disc, but the main "hook" that drew people into buying the DLC was the storage chest! You could have put it into the main camp (where it was more convenient), but intsead you make everyone buy DLC for an aspect of the game that is considered textbook for these types of games!
I love this companies games, but if these patterns of extortion continue, I will be forced to take my business elsewhere.
