what I have seen in the video is laughably easy, it is barely something that can even be called "modding", text file editing is the very basic thing, the closest it reminds me of is how the Paradox strategy games can be modded as those basically have almost all data details in .txt files, especially because the reason to make it for the modding community simpler.

Yeah, .ini tweaks are (to my knowledge) considered okay by basically every company. I know for a fact that Tribes: Ascend (a multiplayer FPS) practically encourages it by having a stickied .ini topic on their forums.

Its a hack when you want to access stuff you already own and dont want to get ripped off. Dont be silly.

But what I want to know, is why did I pay for the same content twice, its a fair question, one that I and many others here would expect an answer to, rather than thread deletions in a feeble attempt to sweep it under the rug.

This is the crux of the matter. Why do i need to pay $10 for them to mod one line in a config file? I clearly already have purchased the code to put this character on my team.

Because consumers are cash cows. Make up some lies, a subpar game and enough people will buy it.

Dear Bioware,

Please do not attempt to integrate any DLC character into the main story narrative or mission dialogue in any game from this point on as it may cause BSN to go into meltdown. Instead, please do your very best to ensure the same levels of narrative integration as shown with Zaeed and Kasumi in ME2. And don't worry - no one will moan about the lack of dialogue interaction in both mission, hubs and normandy situations breaking immersion or it being a filler character.

Do people go on like this about music? Normal edition albums have a track listing and special edition albums have an extended track listing. All the songs we recorded before the release but you don't see people raging because the standard edition doesn't  have all the songs. I paid extra for the C.E because I wanted more content...

First: You buy CD's?

Second: CD's are like $10 not $60.

If Bioware wants to put in $70 worth of content then charge $70. Don't lie to your customers.

Well, it's entirely possible that what Bioware said was basically true, and that the majority of the content for the DLC was developed after the game went to press, but at this point I'm not sure how much it will matter. On the internet, as in politics, perception is reality.

My point is that the whole issue over lack of integration of extra squadmates in ME2 was shouted from rooftops by BSN, so they integrate an extra squadmate more tightly in ME3 and the way in which it is done causes people to forget that this is what they were asking for, and instead reach for their torches and pitchforks. Seriously, by addressing one problem that players had with ME2 they create two more - game forums, the hydra of the Internet

Lack of respect for their customers, simple as that. Treat them like cash cows is the EA / Bioware policy. Whats that, they dont like it? Delete all complaints and accuse them of stupidity.

But the amount of integration isn't what is being complained about.  The problem is that it was created alongside the rest of the game and then cut out just so it could be resold for $10 on top of the full price of the game.  And with EA/Bioware lying all the way along.

Except it was designed from the beginning as an extra DLC character. Hence the character being touted as a bonus included in the N7 edition of the game.

Yeah I buy cd's, just like not all people buy digital versions of games... It's the same thing.  Want more content, pay more.

That said, since I do recall Bioware making unqualified statements that development on "From Ashes" did not begin at all until after the game was in certification, that video does cast serious doubt on the overall veracity of their statements. And the excessive forum policing does not help. If there's a reasonable explanation that can be given together with evidence, I'd be happy to hear it. If not, this is going to keep looking worse and worse.

So you're saying they should have kept every asset, every sound bite and every possible inaction with the Prothean off the main disc and provided that in an even bigger DLC pack, even though the dialogue is likely to have been recorded at the same time as all the other dialogue was?

95% of this entire thread is down to what you're definition of 'created' is.... When it was designed or when it was actually being programmed and built

Why would I when I can simply modify a config file? If you paid for it then you should be upset.

I just checked, and DAO's Stone Prisoner is ~200MB, or 1/3 of From Ashes. Stone Prisoner has roughly the same amount of content as From Ashes. Even if Eden Prime is much bigger than the areas in Stone Prisoner, I find it hard to believe that it is three times the size of the entire Stone Prisoner DLC. I suspect that hacked!Javik is broken or otherwise incomplete.

...no, I'm saying that this contradicts their previous statements if I'm remembering them correctly. I don't have a horse in this race, I haven't bought the game and don't intend to for unrelated reasons. It's up to Bioware how they want to proceed with the development of their games; I'm just pointing out that it looks bad.

Different engine, different game. Not really relevant to compare sizes.
