Well, this was bad. The prothean should be in main game. This was really funny "the character was optional, and we are doing the people that will buy the SE a favor including this as a DLC".

The prothean is not optional if you want to understand what is happening in ME Universe. Since the first game I was wondering: what If some prothean survived and are around?

The prothean is not like Zaed or Kasumi or even Shadow Broker or Arrival. It should be a free DLC;

watch out! you said "should be a free dlc", the rabid fans will accuse you for being an "entitled spoiled gamer"

I'm gonna laugh if people get him (or not buy ME3 altogether because of it) and after all this moaning about how integral and important the character is, he's like Zaeed with an actual dialogue tree. A few expository lines about the Protheans and otherwise just another horse in the stable to bring out to kill stuff. Granted, I have the CE ordered so I'll be slightly disappointed that it wasn't more substantial but I'll get a good laugh at all the people who gave themselves heart attacks spazzing over this and cancelling pre-orders and all this nonsense.

Amuses me that they attack the hat shop.

Here's why hats are justifiable

Valve released a polished game, very fun in fact, for considerably less than the industry standard. 20$ less. This is a multiplayer game as well, so far more playability than that of a singleplayer game. Bioware is selling a singleplayer game that is arguably worse than its predecessors for 59.99, and on the exact same day of launch charging you 10$ for a patch.

-Valve makes it cheaper, has weekends where its nearly free, has free weekends, makes it free

-Here's the main thing. Valve PATCHES their game, constantly. This is a foreign concept in the activision and EA world. You don't receive patches in bioware games even though you should for throwing down a large sum of money for a few hours of gameplay. You get DLC. In TF2 you get whole new game modes, maps, content, taunts, art, weapons, and they believe this is a expectation on their behalf to the consumer. So to compare microtransaction hats on a already very charitable game that is well supported to day one CONTENT dlc for a singleplayer game with a already inflated price doesn't work.

but you know not everyone is into online gaming especially Bioware's fanbase. To be honest, both Half life 2 and its episodes are too short for the price Valve was asking for. At least Mass Effect 2 has much more contents than valve's past single player games. And also Valve released a game called portal 2 which is only a 5 hours single player game plus a mediocre multiplayer mode probabaly no one will bother to play it.

You must be playing a different game because im pretty sure in the game i played the story was about a bunch of Giant Genocidal Robot star ships and how humanity and a bunch of other aliens were going to stop them

If you buy a car that doesn't have all the optional features, do you complain about the manufacturer?

"I can't believe they made a sunroof for this car but they aren't going to give it to me for free!"

You do if the car you testdrove at the dealer did have a sunroof and leather seats, and you come home in a Fiat punto instead of a ferrari.

I can't understand your analogy, there was a prothean squadmate in the demo?

Nope. And no storytelling either. The storytelling that used to be the ferri turned into a fiat punto with spoilers and a nice coat of paint. We get festive exhaustpipes and fluffy dice for the windscreen but its not the ferrari we were lead to believe we would be testdriving.

Hmm, there are Prothean squadmate files in the demo version of the game.

Wonder if the files will be in the shipped SE's. You know-the totally complete version of the game. I mean-ya know, it is complete out of the box, so there couldn't be incomplete character and squadmate data shipped out with it-if it's complete and all.

I mean-that would just be nuts right?

I don't know, I'm not a big car guy so I don't know anything about that fancy stuff.

Passenger seat doors seem swanky as hell, though.

This whole car analogy thing is somewhat silly but the best way to frame it as it relates to this dlc is with nav systems. Most of the time the car has all of the wiring and stuff already installed, which would be the stuff like the audio files people are finding, however you have the pay for them to actually install the remaining components for it to work, which would be the 600mb or whatever it was of additional data for the dlc.

Are you a fool? Prothean is not optional, as simple as that, is a sensitive part of Mass Effect universe. Its like buying a car and having to pay for the tyres.

Re: that ME3 government link deal, the way I read it was like a fictitious petition from the future UK public asking the government to reveal the details about the Reaper threat with a link to some randomly generated looking official site.

Uuhhhh...it's not.

Yes, yes it is. It's using a goverment domain for MARKETING PURPOSES. Which is illegal in the UK.

Um....alrighty then.

And this bothers you WHY, exactly?  I'm just curious.  If Bioware did indeed break the law by knowingly using a government domain for marketing purposes, I'm sure the UK government will stamp down on that, right?  Surely they must be aware of it.  So, don't get those knickers in such a knot.  If it's not UK-gov't-approved, it'll disappear soon enough.

This is where the actual petition is. Yes, this is a governmnent domain site. And yes, what they're doing is illegal.

No it is not. The petition already existed and has existed for a very long time.

Even if they highlight it in the media it IS NOT illegal.

The VO and base character model is in there, but not the rest to my knowledge.

Bad attempt at a comparison. This would be saying that you have to buy DLC to complete ME3 - you don't. AKA your car came with all the basic components required for it to work, which includes wheels :-P

So the prothean beacon makies the entire story about the protheans? So I guess that Dragon Age Origins was a story about some guy named Duncan because he recruited you and told you about the blight?

The prothean IS optional... how is that even debatable? If he is NOT integral to the storyline... then he is the very definition of optional, just like Kasumi and Zaeed, neither are needed for the full experience but are nice to have

It does not include the wheels. You ever drove a car without wheels? You must be from the Flintstone age.

I still don't get your analogy. If we are comparing it to cars, the demo is a test drive. So how did we drive a ferrari in the test drive?

Before this news you were totally fine not having a prothean teammate, but now that there's one available you need it free. Just don't buy the DLC.
