Will this DLC be free for Digital Delux Edition or not ?

The ME Wiki has a pretty good chart of what's available in each bundle from various retailers.  You can view it at:

... but be warned, plot spoilers lurk a little ways below it, so scroll carefully!

I've read all 96 pages of this thread. Contrary to popular thoughts, we really do care what you guys have to say.

Casey and I have explained how the development timeline on these DLC go, and in order to have our DLC flow with the main game, we do have to integrate the VO into certain places in the core product (Certain ME2 DLCs followed this same pattern). But there's a lot of work to crafting a great DLC, outside of the VO and script.

That said, i can tell you is that a team of of us poured our heart into this DLC after we had given all we could to finish the the ME3 game. We pushed hard because we wanted people to be able to experience this adventure on the first day, rather than day 30 or 60. We're proud of it, and if you choose to play it, I think you'll see that.

I really do appreciate every person who wants to give ME3 a chance (even if you're not happy with me right now!), and even without 'From Ashes' - I think you will be blown away.

Thanks for your support, and thanks for your feedback.

It's nice to have you guys finally respond, but I still don't understand why "From Ashes" couldn't be distributed like Zaeed was.

It could have been, they decided not to because its within their rights to do so, if you dont want to pay for it dont. You are not entitled for "From Ashes" to be free simply because in the past you have recieved something for free. You are opperating on the assumption that because in the past they have given you things for free that they now have to and that is not how it works.

I'm not assuming that in any way - I'm simply stating that there's no reason to charge us extra money for content that every player should be able to experience.

And every player CAN experience this! For $10.00! The beauty of capitalism is that it's your choice to participate!  At least those who pre-ordered the standard edition are being given the opportunity to purchase this DLC as opposed to it being exclusive.

I don't see how you can be ok with DLC day one. i am fine if it adds to the ending but it should never be day one it basically says well here is part of the game pay more.

It's aggravating that you're being sincere about this, and people just wave you off or roll their eyes and go "Nice try."

I don't think there's ever going to be a way to convince some people, no matter how forthwright you are.  But hey, at least you're willing to try.

Probably because they lie all the time, Chris lied about this subject exactly.

Doesn't mean I don't think the worked hard on in though, I'm sure they did, and they probably should get a bigger cut of the DLC profits.

All he said was that it was old text.  He never once stated that it wasn't in the game.  Only that it wasn't supposed to be listed there.  There's no lie.

This was leaked in like July of last year, you really expect us to believe it didn't finish until after you sent the game for certification? Come on. Even after reading the script, this is too far. You guys really crossed the line with this one. it's getting harder an harder to recognize you Bioware.

Hasn't that always been the case with all products and services?

Criterion Games' Burnout Paradise did the exact opposite. most DLCs were free including new vehicles, new maps, new missions, etc.

oh and guess what, it was "download it or not we don't care. but it's free."

big difference, my friend. big, big difference.

It is their work and their content, we are not entitled to get it for free simply because we believe we are. They have every right to decide that we should have to pay for their work, if people agree with that or not and wish to pay them for that work or decide that the work is not something they are interested in for the cost is up to the consumers. The outrage over the issue is entirely blown out of proportion and most of it is completely unfounded and backed by a sense of entitlement that people feel they deserve it for free.

"Should"? Why?

I'll reiterate what I've said at least once every couple of pages: a live Prothean is a ****ING HUGE DEAL in the context of Mass Effect. Like, monumentally huge - and this is the content they decided that some gamers could live without? I mean, Zaeed was cool, but if he weren't in the game people wouldn't spend the whole time wondering, "Who the hell actually founded the Blue Suns...?" Prothy IS, however, a big deal.

This does not answer anything. Why is it again that the dlc can't be distributed the same way as Zaeed was in ME2?

Is it to 'reward long term fans'? You know that charging extra money to access all of the content in the game isn't exactly 'rewarding' anyone, right?

Everywhere around me sold out of the CE preorders way long ago, so all I can get is the SE. So the fact that they made it so I will still be able to get this DLC makes me very pleased. I'd have paid the extra 20 that the CE costs just for this DLC, but thats beside the point.

Correction.  Fans of the series would want to experience, someone new to ME3 won't care about protheans, it will just be a passing thing in conversation.  Not everyone cares about protheans and most definitely not about DLC.

This DLC is for the fans who couldn't get CE and want this bonus character or the people who just like to buy DLC in general for a complete experience.

Yes, entitlement vs capitalism.

Entitlement thinks most forms of capitalism is wrong.  Bioware/EA doing what's best for their buisness is wrong.  Capitialism says supply and demand determine prices, and if that supply and demand supports dlc to improve profit margins, they should go ahead and do so.

I can't fault any buisness for wanting to maximize the bottom dollar, as that is their responsibility to their share holders.

funniest crap i've ever read.

first off, i find it funny that people think only Capitalism is the only existing system for business and trade. there has been tons of systems in the history of mankind. Capitalism has always been about rewarding the stakeholder and squeezing out every dollar from the consumer. that is its goal, its principle. it's not entitlement that thinks it's wrong, but it is fundamentally wrong from a consumer standpoint and fundamentally right from a seller standpoint.

Supply and Demand? rofl. NO ONE demanded for a $10 Day 1 DLC. and please don't give me that crap about the team wanting to put out DLC day 1 so they rushed to finish the job. these workers are hired in a contractual basis., meaning working on a DLC is already a given. Biwoare doesn't say "oh we dont want to lay you off so go do a DLC". that is pure eand utter bullcrap.
this is more like monopolizing the market rather than meeting in a middle ground. supply and demand my arse. don't talk about stuff you just learned from a 1st year economics class because that crap is useless.

Funny how in years past all we hear is not enough dlc or took too long for any dlc to show up... now that they try to get as much dlc available as soon as possible, now people are upset that it's dlc in the first place.

Don't go off on no demand, as it's been there, the consumer has cried for it on many a game over the years.

I own my own business and have a brick and mortar store. What Bioware/EA is doing with this DLC would be like one customer that buys 3 dollars worth of product and a customer after them that buys 20 dollars worth of product and I give the person who spent 20 dollars a free gift. When the customer who spent 3 dollars asks "why didn't I get my free gift?" I would say "well spend 20 bucks more and you will get one".

Regardless if someone comes into my store and spends 3 bucks or 100 bucks, i give them a free gift of equal value, you know why? Because they are both customers and even though that 1 customer only spent 3 dollars they could very well come back and spend 100 the next time around.

My point is favoring people who spent 20 extra bucks while shafting people who spent 60 bucks is complete BS. I am even thinking about canceling my TOR sub because of this. Then Bioware won't have my 15 bucks a month for that buggy mess of a game...but this isn't about that is it?

It's a vague answer that is pretty much a lie, either he is only talking about the text, or he is talking about the character himself. He is probably talking about the text, and yes the "prothean" part may have been removed, but not all of it. as others pointed out on biowares CE page.

Uhhh...except the script can, and did change between the first and second leak.  And again, we've had two people, no wait, THREE people tell us how DLC is made, which explains why it took them so long to work on it.

But I suppose you won't be convinced unless Bioware admits "guilt" (one which doesn't exist).

That's not what I'm asking.  We're being asked to believe that this DLC is no different than any other "paid" DLC (i.e. that it was designed separately, that it had its own costs, etc.)  If that's the case, then it should also be the case that in a world without paid DLC, this content would have never existed.  That's what I'm asking.

The fact that it was announced for the CE doesn't mean much, because they're charging an extra $20 for the CE.

Basically what I'm asking is this:  If there was no way to charge more than $60 for the game, would this DLC content be in the game or not?

So what you're essentially asking is, If there were no financial benefit to Bioware for producing this DLC would they have made it? Well, would they have made any of the Mass Effect games if there was no financial benefit? It's Capitalism, of course concepts that will bring in revenue streams will be produced over those that do not. We're talking about a private corporation here not the government, which would make useless DLC all day long regardless of how good it was, and give it away at the expense of the taxpayer.

exactly.

lets play Devil's Advocate here...lets pretend they had NO intention to give out the content beyond the already announced CE's. What would all non-CE owners do? Rush to the forums crying about how its not fair, demanding that they be allowed to purchase that content. I can already see it...usergroups and forums sigs saying "i support prothean squadmte for DLC!!"

And as you pointed out, its BW's content, and they decided to make it available for anyone who wants to purchase it. And yet, people are still upset about it.

In the end, it really is BioWare's content...and they are the ones who have to design it, write the story, develop the levels and gameplay, and hire actors to voice it. And yet, people are mad that they are actually putting a price on that? Why shouldnt they? If people dont want it, then dont buy it. Just dont act like you are ENTITLED to that content, simply because it adds to the lore and story of ME3.

The problem with citing "supply and demand" as a justification for shady business practices is, again, the fact that in this particular medium, people can have what they demand for free if you alienate them enough.

If I have water and you're dying of thirst, I can pretty much get whatever I want out of you. If, however, it starts raining and you can get free water, then all my leverage falls apart, doesn't it?

I'm asking why should you not have to pay for this. "It's a big ****ing deal" isn't a satisfactory answer.
