There's no mods that'll please the mystical entry known as 'everyone', I know, but coming back to NWN2 after years away leaves a simple question: what mods would you recommend everyone play?  If someone posted 'what mod should I try?' without giving any details on if they prefered story, hack and slash, pregenerated characters, free form worlds... what sort of modules would you recomend for them without details?

The hall of fame is of course a good place to start, but I'm looking for more personal recommendations if at all possible.

I'm just trying to find modules it's assumed everyone has played (or will play), because they're so good/popular/made such contribudations to the community/so on so forth as someone coming back to the game, and I woud appreciate any comments offered.

(For the record, down to the wire, I prefer story based to hack and slash, but I'll try anything once. :))

I can recommend a lot of them (and will if you want), but for a start, I'll go with two that I think anyone would like: Trinity, and Harp and Chrysantemum. Both have a good story, interesting combat and can please different types of players.

Well of course I’m going to say Murder in Dunlop but that’s just my opinion.  :P

Tales from the Lake of Sorrows series
Misery Stone
Trinity
Pool of Radiance Remastered
Harp & Chrysanthemum
Icewind Dale
Path of Evil
The Wizard's Apprentice
Subtlety of Thay
Serene
Legacy of White Plume Mountain

This is an incomplete list just off the top of my head and also does not include a number of mods I am sure are good but I haven't had a chance to look at due to my NWN2 rig having been out of commission for a while.

I may be biased, but I think everyone should play Shaar Moan at least once - if only for the cutscene near the end when you leave the crypt. I created the module, and it still cracks *me* up every time.

At the very least it should be played as a tribute to our dear departed Plastic Pixie of Pop. Hee-hee!  [grabs crotch] Owww!

Seconded. Great atmosphere in both of those.

Harumph!

I think my own Harvest of Chaos: King's Festival + Queen's Harvest is underrated. I believe it was the first campaign to allow SoZ style party members as well as companions and the SoZ crafting system. Its behavior for death and rest and crafting is customizable via easily edited 2da files. You can walk around on the roof of a castle. And it has a fair length. Even though it is a remake of two connected PnP adventures, I did flesh out the story where appropriate like a real DM would.

Regards

I'll endorse all of the above, except Ravenloft:Dreamscape and Misery Stone, which are graphically gorgeous but so buggy you'll probably never complete them. I'll also second Harvest of Chaos, Shaar Moan and Murder in Dunlop, lest the OP think only their authors like them.

Also check out Seryn's "The Red Prison" (good old fashioned hack 'n' slash with some beautifully crafted areas), human_male's "The Corruption of Kiahoro" (sort of a prequel to "Traveller") and Dann Pigdon's "Isle of Shrines".

Really, we have an abundance of riches, with much more to come.

This is a tricky one as we all have our own play styles and what not. Just looking at some of the mods other people have mentioned some I agree with others I don't. That said if you're anything like me you'll know within the first few minutes if you'll like the mod or not, assuming the mods discription got you hooked.

If you make it through the first few minutes, you'll have completed my mods!

That said, I'd also recommend Trinity, Harp and Crysanthemum, and The Corruption of Kiahoro. Sheep and Stone is worth your time as well.

There are probably others I could recommend, but I haven't finished playing them yet.
