People work hard to produce this additional content for players, and the players spit in their faces and demand it for free. Disgusting, really. Still, as long as the content is produced, I'll buy it to show my support, if it's of the level of quality I've come to expect from AAA titles.

I "Work hard" to find oil for an oil company. I think the price of gas should go up because I work hard to find it. Would you support me too?

What an adorable little strawman you've constructed. What's his name? *tickle tickle*

It doesn't bother me......yes they may be trying to squeeze as much money as possible but in the end it blows down to business. Atleast they are not another squeenix and charge for nothing but crappy games.

Well gas is increasing in cost so I bet that makes you feel good since your getting your wish, but the cost of gas pays for your salary, as well as any bi-products that refineries produce, such as sulphur, asphalt, methane gas, Fuel, hydrogen, and H2S. So consider those bi-products as DLC.

The day 1 DLC doesn't bother me that much because I had planned on buying the PC collector's edition anyway but that's where my problem begins.

Why is the PC version the same price as the console version when the PC version requires registration with your Origin account? The PC copy in all it's forms is non-transferable unless someone sells their Origin account, there is no used market to speak of, no major secondhand competitor like Lamestop to contend with.

Not satisfied with the retail price, I elected to check the price of the Digital Deluxe and standard edition. Much to my chagrin, it's even worse. The price is the same! Yet, there's no discs or manuals to manufacture, pack and distribute. It's even worse with the the Digital Deluxe compared to the Collector's Edition, if you get the Digitial Deluxe edition instead of the collector's edition you're paying the same price but giving up the collector's case, patch and hard copy of the art book.

I haven't bought used games in a long time but this kind of stuff makes me want to reconsider buying used games/renting on console to save money. The end result is not only does EA get screwed but so does the developer, in this case Bioware, because of EA. I have no problem paying full price provided the full price is fair, none of the pricing on the various PC versions are. For now I'm just going to put ME3 out of my mind and keep an eye out for an inevitable price reduction on amazon of the PC digital deluxe edition. In the end Origin doesn't compete and there's still a middleman. It just makes EA abandoning Steam look futile and inconvenient.

I'm definitely still getting the game, but if the DLC isn't fantastic I won't be buying it or any future DLC's from Bioware. My excitement for ME3 is only slightly higher than my lack of tolerance for a business practice that every game developer knows that gamers despise, yet does anyways.

Sure some developers just hide it by waiting to release the DLC, but at least that shows that they care enough about what their fans think about them to not make them feel ripped off.

This could get traction like how people rejected banks charging extra fees or Netflix and that bad idea. Too bad it doesn't work for the airlines...

Anyway, I have a feeling this outrage over the DLC is going to be a big pile of nothing. I bet the DLC content will be cool, but far from essential TO THE CURRENT STORY ARC (not shouting, just emphasizing).

The leaks only affected those who couldn't exercise enough DIRECT CONTROL (see what I did there?) to not look at it. Their fault.

I'm officially putting my name on the boycott list, with regrets.I, for one, agree with Merix. I have very much enjoyed Bioware's games over the last few years, but EA's marketing strategies I feel are incredibly underhanded and disrespectful to the fan community. To any moderators or employees actually reading these posts I urge you not to ignore them. I would like to succinctly state the issues I have with this business model which have lead to my current cancelling of my planned Mass Effect 3 purchase:

Origin: I believe that competition is a good thing and that, implemented properly, Origin and Steam should be worthwhile competitors for a common market. However, EA has failed to implement their proprietary service in any profound way. As it stands now, Origin seems as though it is being strong-armed in by EA by withholding titles from Steam users and I (along with many others) feel this is unacceptable. Rather than using this tactic please consider ideas like initiatives for new members (free DLC, one discounted purchase, etc.) or something to build good relations with your consumer rather than insulting them by saying you respect their choices while forcing them to use Origin if they wish to play games.

Secondly, day one "DLC:" If software pertaining to the main experience of a title is developed along side and is ready for release at the same time as the title itself then I do not consider it an add-on. I feel it is yet another underhanded tactic to nickel and dime your customer to get the full experience from their purchase. This is not good business; it communicates to me that you do not respect my intelligence or my patronage. Please consider at the very least making this content available free of charge to early adopters of the title.

I would very much like to play Mass Effect 3 and am extremely interested in giving you my business but, as a company you need to be willing to meet your market half way. Give this game a release to fans playing on Steam and I may consider myself more inclined to purchase downloadable content. Respect my choice as a consumer to do what I want with the money I work hard to earn and I guarantee you will see more of it spent on products that carry the EA/Bioware label. A reply to these concerns would be appreciated but action would be appreciated more.

Sincerely,
A Disappointed Fan

I agree 100% with this.  Well written and I too will be posting a letter to express how I feel on the subject of this game.  I decided to listen and write in the forums, when I haven't before, for this game.  I did that because I am a huge fan.  It's unfortunate that BioWare, a company that I feel produces games that are better then gold, was the straw for me having to boycot a videogame.  There are other videogame companies that have been producing lesser quality games and couple it with bad business practices, but I for one am more shocked that BioWare decided to go along this more corperate route to get money instead of letting the game make the money for them.

They're giving players who don't have the money or luck to recieve the Collectors Edition a chance to get what they were unable to get.. They're giving players in the UK who lost their GAME CE pre-orders a chance to get some of the DLC they will miss if they have failed to re-pre-order. Look at it this way, it's not story-pivotal, but if I was unable to get any content for getting the collectors edition, then I'd be rather upset. This way, players both old and new (or those who will be buying later) have a chance to play this DLC and enjoy the game more.

Not boycotting this game. It costs millions to make these, and based on what I've seen, that 10$ is more than worth it. Respect those who choose to do so.

maybe you could try charging people if they want more gas rather than giving it away free to your existing customers:unsure:

I'm boycotting this because I hate what bioware did with Dragon Age 2, TOR, and now are doing with Mass Effect 3. The leaked ending and big reveal made me feel VERY Satisfied, knowing I won't be picking up the newest iteration. Too bad.

No. I got spoiled on the endings and I'm not pleased with them, but the rest of the game looks awesome and I'm okay with plunking down $10 for some DLC that would have cost me $20 more than the regular game if I'd gotten it with the Collector's Edition.

Please guys, Bioware made a statement about the Day 1 DLC.
It's only to make the CE/DDE content available to buyers of the normal version, which is only fair.
I pay more for the CE so you shouldn't be upset to pay for that content, too.

This dlc was originally CE only. As GAME has cancelled my preorder for the ce edition i had placed before xmas, I can buy this dlc to go with my std edition and still have over £20 left from the difference in price.
Still would have liked the art book and lithograph tho :(

Avoiding the pc version seems valid due to the concerns about origin. Not sure what exactly the issues are with it as my pc isnt up to playing modern games but ea needs to either sort it out and address the issues or, if the fears are ungrounded, get the message out and answer these concerns and try and reassure people. Steam does not seem to have these issues and its a similar system by what i understand.
Boycotting the console versions over a piece of dlc that was slated for the N7 edition only and available to buy for std editions after a couple of months now being available to buy on day one is just nonsensicle.

May have cought some dumb of my students, but seem to be missing a step of logic here:
- People pre order CE/ DD(which has a list of stuff with it)
- Bioware say that people who ordered CE/DD will get more stuff than was on the list
- People boycott/cancel Pre order
You are cancelling your pre-order because if you had bought the vanilla version you would be paying $10 more.
What am I missing (no wall of text please, I have 30 books to mark)

Not boycotting, already paid for everything including the DLC. I really don't get what is the big deal over $10 bucks, if you can afford a $60 game, what's another $10 dollars. I will be enjoying ME3 at 12:01.
