No vehicles? Glad to hear it.
Same.
And the mining is back. I just hope it will be bit more fun this time around.

order
cancelled
Seriously though, I actually like this system as described a bit better than the last one. Whether it's as good as advertised is another matter, but I like the sound of it at least.

You think so? As for myself I loved the Mako and I liked the vehicles aspect. From what I understood from what just read you still might have vehicles in ME3, you still use them to travel on the planets surfaces (on rails or more linear dependent on where are impression I got) but those surfaces are more linear and not open expanses and maybe it is different for every other planet visit. I saw nothing that said they do not exist in that.
It is sad to see 'scanning' still exists in such a heavy form though from what I could interpret.
Yeah I loved the Mako too, I feel like it's flaws were greatly exaggerated which is normal I guess when the internet has it's way. There were definititely problems with it but not enough to warrant it's complete removal. I would've loved to see it improved upon for ME2 or ME3.
Keep the fundamental roaming around planets just improve the diversity of the missions, Mako handling and the diversity of the planets. I really miss the immersion that I got from driving around those planets doing remote side missions. Really gave that RPG feel that was absent in ME2.

OT, sounds alright, not that different to scanning for N7 missions, but just with an extra risk attached. Personally, I loved wandering about in the Mako, but thought the planets themselves were largely pretty uninspired, with a few exceptions. Didn't mind the Hammerhead, though it did feel a bit on-rails.
I still think there's a decent chance we'll get vehicle 'segments' - like the car ride in LotSB, just not free-roaming exploration like ME1 - but to be honest, I don't mind either way. If the ME3 missions are generally of high quality, then I won't miss vehicular exploration much; if the missions are rubbish then I doubt the Mako would save them ... not long until we find out either way

No vehicles is a huge disappointment, but its pretty true: Mass Effect is trying to appeal to the shooter fans and we all know they have ADD
It's not so much ADD as much as a matter of consistency. Most shooters add a vehicle segment in the campaign just to change things up. But then that part of the campaign then becomes everyone's least favorite part, because they bought a shooter. To shoot things. It'd be like if a Mario Kart game had a random FPS segment just to give you a break from racing. You bought the game to race.
ME is different, though. Vehicles are used for broad exploration. But I'm not all that disappointed because the exploration in ME1 kinda... sucked.
Basically, I just wanted to contradict your assessment of shooter fans as mindless drones. Because that happens way too much on these forums. Most threads smell of pretentiousness on BSN eventually. Sad.

I agree ME1 exploration was bad but why not make it like Mass Effect 2's Overlord? Overlord had great use of the Hammerhead. I would prefer a smaller amount of much more detailed sidequests that could have a bigger impact on the story.

People over-zealously criticise the game - but they do bring points with them.
BSN offers an overkill immuno-response of trollish sarcastic flame - and brings practiacally nothing to the table.
It's like shooting your arm off with a shotgun because you have an infected fingernail.
With regard to the thread, i do worry how they are going to fill the content (+30 hours of gameplay) without the vehicular exploration,
i don't want to see content lost just because some people raged over the Mako, but then, if you don't want 100% completion, you don't have to do it? So there is really no reason to cut content for these people.
I loved the Mako, Hammerhead not so much and it was useless once you finished those DLC missions, i don't see how Nothing is the correct way to innovate this.

Examples. Mako exploration removed instead DLC (hammerhead) with repetitive mining added.
Large Diverse skill tree reduced and then simplified again.....
Inventory gone.
large loot table gone. (wep customization is an improvement back to the old system however)
ect ect. you can expect most of the RPG fans are going to blame the Shooter crowd who have been getting a better deal with improved combat.
but then that just how it went no point in whining about it just sad to see a great part such as the Mako go because the game is cheaper for it and could have worked fine with the shooter mechanics but most just couldn't use it correctly.
Edit: also the exploration you all hate in ME 1 was optional inless you just had to have the completion achivements but no thouse two were optional and I'm talking as some one who has all Me 1 achivements on both the Pc and Xbox 360. so ya. you could do the main story and only use the Mako twice I think in fairly flat easy areas.

The mere fact I can't land on a planet and explore it is complete bull****. I like driving around on inhabitable planets and running into a random Thresher Maw.
What the hell has happened? Went from RPG to a standard 3rd person shooter.
Funny way of defining RPG, since there's a good number out there that don't allow free-form exploration. And made by Bioware, no less.
Hmm what you say is right, but I think he meant the type of RPG that ME1 was. Which I'd have to agree with him on.

Compared to the Mako and exploration, that sounds like possibly the funnest feature to ever grance an ME game. Hell, if they strapped a shock collar on me every time I failed, it would still be more fun than exploration or the Mako.
Odd as the comparison is, I might have to agree with this.

After it got repetitive, and then turned into a further optional chore, I've concluded they wouldn't be able to make a good system to appease any one group. Even something generic wouldn't be interesting, hence the turrets and rail shooting.
