IMO Bioware is trying something different that you don't see in other Multi-player games and while I agree it's not perfect overall I am fine with the current system as is. I don't see any compromise option that would really work, as soon as you include a way to bypass the current system whether by adding a really expensive pack for example would instantly break the system.

To me the current system is like my old baseball card collecting habit in days past. You would buy a pack and aside from the gum you had no idea what you would get inside and it makes for a nice surprise. And that system was worse because you'd often get doubles at least here a double upgrades the character/item. It's completely fair and completely random so maybe to those who lost or never had the patience for that type of system I say give it a chance.

I don't see that as comparable at all. Especially when in this case the "baseball cards" are not collectible items but classes, and species mixed in with all the other items.

Relegating customization gear in random unlocks would be closer to baseball cards in terms of utility than entire classes and weapons.

It's odd to me that people are complaining so bloody hard over the contents of a demo that they know is incomplete. For people that all invariably go on about how they do not have the time to waste, y'all spend a whole lot of it on these forums going on about things that may very well already be implemented in retail. Why not save your breath and your apparently immensely-limited time for when you know for sure what you actually need to complain about?

Not even sure if anything is remotely changed in the full retail, which is a big ****ing deal for the less MP-inclined players. I'd rather spend my extra time working on my import files than waste that same amount of time hoping for a character I am not going to get unless the random God in the sky says so.

A dev already confirmed the retail version will have the same system. Which is what these complaints are about.

Now think about it like this, the demo only holds half the items the retail version will, just imagine how much longer its going to take to get that one class when all those other items will have a chance to be unlocked as well?

He said that there would be higher level packs that have better odds for unlocks.

It has been stated that the demo contains roughly half of the content of the retail game, and this was said in direct reference to the unlock system. I'm just saying, if you've got such a premium on your time (and that's fine - everyone has priorities and things to do)  why are you wasting it on this den of unhappiness and discontent? If the sixth rolls around and you still aren't happy, then go ahead and complain all you want. Doing it now, though, is doing so without any real facts other than "the demo makes me unhappy". If you folks were targeting something that is directly gameplay-related (and thus very likely to be identical come retail) I would understand, but this... isn't. It's content-related, and we all know that the demo is limited on its content.

Just to state: I really hate the random unlocks, but thats not the point of this post.

its really quite simple:

- In the full version keep the random boxes that you have in the demo.
- Add a new box that lets you pick a character that you want to unlock (for 50,000 credits lets say)

this lets both sides of the argument get what they want.

this solution should have something to satisfy everyone

That's a very fair compromise. I hope a patch is made to make this so.

I expect that, if we don't see class unlock packs or a tie-in to single player in the retail version, there will eventually be real money transactions for classes--buy the Asari Adept pack for 400 Microsoft Points! EA already built the monetized card system for Madden--I'm sure they're twitching for a chance to bring it to another game.

Or we could just leave it how it is now.

It's fine.

Get the idea of instant gratification out of your heads and start realizing that if you want something, you'll have to work for it. Sometimes, you don't get what you want. In the end, it all pays off.

No, it is not fine.

I have an N57 rank, and fully maxed out Infiltrator, yet I have only a handful of sniper rifle upgrades and ONE unlocked character...ONE!!

How is that working 'fine?'

I do like the random loot items, keeps things from getting stale, but for goodness sake, the amount of time it takes to unlock characters, and the 'hope' mechanic for actually getting an unlock character I would actually like is just silly.

It can be worse, lvl 68 and not one new character unlocked -_-

What annoys me the most about the current system, is that even when you reach level 20, it still tries to give you additional exp, which sucks O.o When you reach the maximum character level, or weapon level, it should be excluded as an option from your packages.. Whenever I get something useless it feels like I'm wasting my credits.
