Bioware has struck pure gold with DAO !

i just returned to camp after completing the Dalish Elves / werewolves quests.  I recruited the Elves to help me fight the blight.  Then completely unexpectedly .... Leliana sings this beautiful song at the campsite.  Wow !  it was amazing.
she's one top gal !

then i have this great conversation with Wynne about the spirit inside her and how she doesn't have that much time left.  about her making the most of the time left.  she's like this great wise / encouraging older women.  a bit like a mother to my character.

the emotions these two events evoked were great.  I've played dragon age 2 (i played it before DAO actually).  and while there were some emotional things - like Bethany succumbing to the blight in the deep roads, or Hawke discovering his mother's death.  it still doesn't compare with origins - its not in the same league

wow ! such a great game.  DAO is amongst the very best i've played (top 3 or 4).  why did they mess with such a successful formula in DA2 ????

i really hope DA3 is more like Origins and less like DA2

Although my love for Origins waned after I played better games and experienced better stories, I have to say that out of all games, Origins touches me emotionally the most. The wide range of emotions it evokes in me, laughter, curiosity, anger, sadness, happiness to choking up at separation, is unmatched in not only video gaming, but in all story telling mediums to me.

Odd, the scene where Leliana sings bored and annoyed me. It was a good idea, they just lingered too long over a character model that just wasn't made to be looked at closely, doing something it wasn't originally intended to do.

Plus, it comes out of nowhere, and takes a long time.

What impressed me most was playing through different Warden origins; the Human Noble is going through a very different narrative than the City Elf is. But, because each of the possible Wardens is a person who actually existed in the world (although only the one you're controlling survived), playing through a second origin tells you more about the story you played the first time.

For example, the first time I met Vaughan Kendalls in Howe's dungeon, I thought he was an arrogant prat and a little racist.

The second time I murdered him without a second thought.

In its evocation of an emotional response from both genders (very difficult to achieve that) DA:O is unfortunately still pretty unique.

Totally agree Maria13.

Leliana face did look a bit off at tines during the song. But wow! It was still amazing. I can't recall a moment quite like that from any other game I've played

I agree with knightofphoenix wholeheartedly. Origins is the first and only game to hit me emotionally that profoundly. Sadly, this is one of the points da2 failed

True. You're getting six different narratives in one game, which really adds to the replay value. And sometimes playing a different gender in the same origin story feels completely different, especially with the City Elf origin.

On my first playthrough, I played a Dalish Elf and wondered why Zevran disapproved when I let Vaughan go-I must have talked to him first instead of Soris.

And then I played a City Elf.

My favourite part about Leliana's In Uthenera rendition was how everybody was captivated by the song... except Morrigan. XD Even Sten seems moved by it!

There are certainly some captivating moments in DAO. I've played through the game numerous (I decline to admit how many) times, and I continue to enjoy it.

Off the top of my head, a few other favorite moments:

--watching the expressions on the team's faces as they enter into the broodmother's lair
--the scene where the Lady of the Forest is released from bondage
--ambient dialogue, numerous locations
--etc., etc....

Great game!

My favorite Wynne moment was when she dropped the line to Alistair, "Yes but when you wake up naked next to me will you still think I look young?" or something similar! What a cougar!

Morrgain fighting tooth and nail that she is "Love"

I did not get the Song by Leliana so I'm bummed.

Malanu, if you start a new game i highly recommend Leliana's song. it's one of those special moments in computer gaming for me.
