Masculine Elf you say?

That is one... scary elf.

I don't have any elf toons since they all look like girls :pinched: I mean I thought I clicked the wrong gender tab!

Mmm, this is an interesting thread. I was just wondering, as a straight guy, which of the following would make me look most gay:

1) Playing a male elf (who are clearly all gay)
2) Playing a female and romaning a man (which clearly makes me gay)
3) Playing a male and rommancing a male character (gay again)

I plan to try all three at some point.

Actually, effeminite does not necessarily equal gay. Some of the greates militarily cultures (Spartans and the Theban sacred band), were overtly gay. I doubt they were effeminate.

Actually, the attempts to make a masculine elf look more gay to me than the girlish Legolas-clichée. The latter just look girlish, I guess they could wear skirts and pass as lasses in twilight, but fighting that makes it worse.

But I think you just reminded me of how and why I made my first female character in NWN - I wanted to make an elven char and the male options made me think "well, I can as well simply play a girl then".

Apasas, IMHO playing a bearded female dwarf will make you look gayest of all and oddly arousing :P

Perhaps elves are a good option for male gamers who would like to play a girl, but just can't bring themselves to play a female.

Then they can play as a girl looking chacacter and yet still be male.

It always depresses me slightly to see crap like this appear...

There is no uniform "gay" look, there is no prescribed physical or facial appearance that all gay people conform to threby making the term "gay look" completely irrelevant and practically as meaningless as saying someone has a "straight look" or a "British look" and that's ignoring cultural differences such as in Japan where they consider your idea of a "Masculine" look to be "Gay looking" and "Feminine looks" to be "Straight looking".

Rimeshade - I agree completely.

I personally find it difficult to take threads like this seriously.

Meh, guys, stop being party poopers - we can't always be 100% political correct.

However, I tend to disagree, there certainly is a "gay look", not to be confused with "all gay people look like that". But if you've ever watched a CSD parade or lived in a city with a strong gay community, you just know that some looks are very gay, and some people absolutely make sure they look that way. That's neither meant as an insult nor is it a homophobic clichée, it just a fact. And you can make a little lighthearted fun about it without meaning to insult too.

I don't know if you noticed, but the OP came back in the first page and expressed a desire to kill elves, presumably due to said gayness.

People were right to wave the PC flag alert on this one.  Though I think Maria Caliban's approach was more amusing and satisfying.

Well, yeah, now that you say it. I wouldn't take it too serious, but I guess a slight nudge with that PC stick is okay then. However, the rest of my previous post still stands... there's of course a gay look, there are also people who try to look as straight as poissible, there are those you can smell are americans from one mile away, and if there wasn't a brit look I wonder why I'm constantly approached by british tourists in the city asking me if I'm a Brit (I'm not, but something I guess makes them think I am, maybe the remains of my grandpa in my DNA... ).

While I agree there is a "gay look" for each of its inner subcultures, I disagree with your reluctance to use the PC stick.  I thought it was fairly obvious that the OP was only posting this thread out of immaturity/homophobia/macho insecurity, and that deserves mockery and a strong thwack with the PC stick.

I find it a bit strange that the elves have remained so.. feminine. I had thought that, because of their tough and certainly unfair means of living (atleast in DA:O), they would have become much more rugged and more fitting into the roll of lowlife townspeople or wild, forestresidents like the Dalish. But maybe that's just me..

And I don't mean happy. Even in the videos of them, they all seem to be mincing and prancing about with bows, skipping through dew laden meadows of flowers and rainbows and such. Yeaaaaah, I really don't think I'll be playing an elf.

with the exception of wendi-pini's elves, which seemed more based on an "alien" archetype (which is what they ultimately were there), when have elves ever been presented as not being effeminite?

MAYBE in shadowrun, but that depends on the person drawing the picture andhow much cybernetic enhancements they were drawn with.

none- short of you as a person actually walking up to another dude on the street, unzipping his pants and going to town or some other similar sexual conduct with another male, simply makinga  character that is gay, effeminate looking or a female romancing a male does not make you look gay-

it makes you the author of your videogame novel in which the main character is effeminate, female and straight, or gay.

unless of coruse you are projecting yourself into that character you created as a fantasy.  but then i think you have other problems if you are taking the game THAT seriously.

I completely agree with you Rimeshade

This is a pretty pointless thread though outside of the fact I apparently never knew being feminine in appearance made you homosexual. So outside of how much attention the title draws, I think I can go about ignoring it pretty easily.

Fine! I admit I'm just too mild and sweet-tempered, and apparently the wrong person to carry out the deed. How about this, I hereby present you with the said PC stick and you just give the OP a spanking he wont forget in a lifetime, with my full approval? *hands over the stick and trots over into the farthest corner:mellow:
