Are you sure that was their intention? I had to do that before for a few rounds because I had to go get my food or pick up a phone call. I was using level 20s though so even then there was no XP to be gained.
no i had this too happen to me the guy stayed in the same spot for 30 mins and only moved before being disconnected since the xbox will shut down if you are inactive and post warning message that you will be disconnected soon andthe guy was level 16...

Why start a MP game if you need to go eat lunch? I understand if something suddenly happens, but way too often people just sit there for most of the match, or they never vote to start the match.
Sometimes you order food and they give you an estimated delivery time.
Sometimes, the food comes a lot sooner than you expected.
In the meantime, you're playing wave 5 of a Gold match.
Back on topic, though;
OP, I know where you're coming from. I really don't know if there is an efficient way for BioWare to handle this. Players could get kicked because of inactivity, but I suppose there should be a reasonable time limit in such cases. A 3 minute phone call shouldn't get you kicked out, for example, whereas if you are away for 20 minutes of gameplay out of 23... different story altogether.

Unless that is a reaaally good domino's pizza, everything can wait in a Gold match!

Oh, trust me, I have grown this habit of multi-tasking with my food as I play MP at this point. Chopsticks with one hand, grab a sushi piece, nom on it, quickly hold sticks with my teeth then back to the controller.
It's damn effective.
