Why does the MP system force us to spend our cash on random packs for mission power ups? Why can't we access a store to buy what we need?

Because Bioware hates you and wants to watch you suffer.

Because we're Spec-Ops, man!  Browsing a store, and setting up gear is for sissy pukes!  IN Shephard 's Spec-Ops, real fighters just rush into the supply dump, whack some **** off a shelf and setup for the next mission!  Hoorah!   And if you got **** that you can't use, well hell man, refunds are for sissy pukes too!

You'll take that hundredth upgrade for a gun you don't use and like it!  Hoorah!

I actually like that it gives players incentive to use unorthodox builds.

I just hope there is truly a reason for getting identical character class packs after it has been maxxed out. =/

Supply lines have been disrupted by the Reaper invasion so you have to take what you can get?

Right...because throwing shotgun upgrades at my infiltrator makes much more sense than throwing them at the Krogan squadmate standing right next to me...Posted Image

But good roleplay idea! Posted Image I also like to think that its loot or salvage from the battlefield!

Grinds increase replay value which increase player retention which increase future sales of DLC and other games.

Blame games like WoW and Call of Duty if you aren't on board.

I've heard that there will be more specific packs to purchase in the full game, somewhat increasing the likelihood that you'll get what you want from them. This could just be a rumor, but I'm hopeful that it's the truth.

Those weapons that cover every wall in your house with HAVE to come from somewhere, right?

I have soo many SpecOps survival and Ammo packs, I would render a whole logistics division envious!

The only thing I hate about is I keep getting character training for classes I've already maxed out, and on top of that, it seems to count as a uncommon, so it wastes my 20K credits.

I sort of like the idea, as it forces variety instead of everyone going straight for the same few optimal builds.

I hate the Idea of Yu-Gi-Oh card style packs....instead of stores....if they are gonna make us earn this space cash.... We should be able to buy what we want ....not a chance to get what you want!!.....this won't make me cancel my preorder....but it definitely has me left with lowered expectations of the game....based on what I have seen of the multiplayer if I were to rate it on a scale of 1(bad) to 5(Good) I would give the MP a 3.75 the game play is solid but the covers are sticky....and the Packs disgust me.....but that's just my opinion. :-)

Why would I grind out a game when I'm stuck with weapons/classes I don't like with the hope of maybe getting lucky enough to enjoy the online coop in the future?  And when did CoD start making random unlockable items (I have never played WoW so don't know about that)?

How does it give players incentive to use unorthodox builds? My adept is always going to be specced out the same way regardless of whether the store gives me the heavy pistols I want or the assault rifles I don't...

If we were able to buy what we want immediately we would get bored much faster, sure it would be a hell of a lot more fun at the start but it will lose its novelty quickly. You could say that people could try new classes or specs using different weapons and powers but, a lot of people myself included don't like deviating outside of our favorite class.

PS I did play the krogan soldier fer teh lulz of heavy meleeing everything in the map.

You are right that "builds" is the wrong word -- As I sure as hell am not going to level my guy differently simply because the random packs refuse to give me good assault rifles or whatever.

Meant more generally that it gives players incentive to try differing things to maximize their spoils, versus simply emulating a preset plan that they read online or whatever.

I won't argue the effectiveness of this, but I like the concept behind the random packs.

If I blamed CoD for anything else that's wrong in the world, I'd be spitting at the ground cursing World at War between typos, and I'm already doing that between forum posts.

I've said it before in other threads, but I wish there was something that would equal out the RNG.  I personally have gotten gold weapons nine different times, but not one of them was a widow.  I'm not asking for it to give me a widow everyone time I get a gold but if it could at least even out after awhile I would be fine with it.

I was expecting after I capped every blue/silver weapon and mod that I would start getting the stuff I am missing, but I don't.  I can't even remember the last time my veteran pack gave me the promised uncommon item, its all just blue character unlocks that are already maxed at lights/skintone.  Hell I got 3 human male adepts in one pack, what the hell?

This is the part that is crap. When you've unlocked everything else, you STILL don't get access to the stuff you're missing. That's just awful game design, period. NO excuse for it. None.

I've maxed the appearance of my vanguards (both of them) and I STILL keep getting gold unlocks for vanguard, four of them today, in fact. Meanwhile; no Salarian, no Turian, no Quarian. The system punishes people who are going to BUY the game. Bad business and it's going to hurt their standing through word of mouth and media. Just baffling why anyone didn't account for things already gotten on a list. It's like it wasn't even tested.

I'm not even upset that I don't get to use it, I'm upset that I don't get to equip it so I can adjust my build to get a suitable recharge time on my cloak (taking capacity increase/weapon weight decreases).  Thats how I view betas, err I mean "demos" (that will no longer be available on release aka betas), to be able to test out everything whether it be for the developer's census reasons or to help yourself figure out what you want to do, come release day.

Most would be forgive if they unlocked everything for us on like the last day of beta, but they won't and I wouldn't blame them for not doing so either.  Even though it would be nice to have some fun.

To respond to your edit.  They may have test it internally but I have the feeling that they either used a program that unlocked a massive amount of the packs (like hundreds of thousands or more) and were like "Okay! Everything has the right percentage that we want it to be at!" Or they didn't do enough and now that it has hit the public there is a lot more "testing" and they find out later they forgot to carry a 0 for accounts that end in xyz or something absurd like that.

Issue is, it's not going to be fixed when the game launches. The system they have in place now is what passed cert.

sigh.

Not really.  I unlocked salarian infiltrator before hitting level 20 and have had more enjoyment out of that class than I have had with any of the other classes I've been trying out.  Grinding out to get that class would have been a lot less fun then playing the class I wanted and unlocking other things to try out.
