Singleplayer, you just hit them with Liara's Singularity.

In MP, an Adept with Singularity or Stasis Bubble. Or somebody with Pull. Don't know who has that.

For Turian Sentinel (which for some reason no one has mentioned so far),
Use overlord, then AR, repeat or overlord and AR....

i think its funny i play an adept and i use singularity all the time on them and it staggers them quite a bit.

then i play SP ME3 and liaras singularity insta castes behind them dropping their shield and sending them flying in the air.

i wish i was liara.

Playing as a Sentinel, Throw can easily stagger them causing them to raise their shield in the air and leaving them exposed for an easy headshot, like this.

If you don't have abilties to disable them or if you aren't a good shot, then the word you are looking for is: ....tadabada.... flanking.
They can only be protected from one side.

I've played as a vanguard (singleplayer only), turian sentinel (mp only), and krogan soldier (mp only).  I have not been able to come up with a satisfactory strategy for them.  In singleplayer, I got frustrated because the game wouldn't let me use shockwave on them.  I ended up having to rely very heavily on Liara's singularity.  In multiplayer, I just aim for the eye slits and empty a few clips (obviously, not every bullet gets past through the hole in the shield).  Melee doesn't help at all.

When I play Vanguard, I use the Drell so I can have Pull, just for the Gaurdians, lol. My Pistol Phalanx (probably spelt that wrong, lol) works well for getting a shot through the slit as well as the Widow sniper rife. The widow is heavy though so that's not something you will want to carry around with every class. The Asari's Adept has Stasis that when upgraded all the way to use the bubble will help alot with Gaurdians as well.

At the very least, just run away and tell your (mp)freinds to kill it, lol. I've done that too, haha.

most of these should work...
-pull can rip off their shields
-sentries can distract them (higher priority for some reason?)
-any attacks from the sides
-catching them unaware with cloak
-stasis makes them drop their shield
-concussive shot i THINK can stun them and make them temporarily make them be unguarded
-incinerate from the side should make them drop their shield(havent tested)
-throw a grenade behind themor to their side

-Also Prox mine staggers them just like Shockwave. Or just mine just behind them and it damages them directly.

Well, as most have said certain things such as shockwave or concussive shot should stagger them for a few seconds so that you pop a few rounds into their helmet and take them down. My favorite thing to do (takes a bit of practice to perfect) in multiplayer is as an Adept, curve a singularity so it comes down on top of the guardian himself and not the shield, then throw a warp at him while he is floating and BOOM, biotic explosion to take out enemies nearby as well. But the same principle applies to any ability you can "curve", warp, incinerate, cryo blast (I believe) etc.

Got pull? Use that. They are easier to un-shield in singleplayer.

All of the above, or:

If you use incendiary rounds, you can usually take a shot to their legs. When they panic, the shield should move enough for an opening.

I pop them down in a row with my sentinel.
Use throw on them while they walk normally(no other animation of them tumbling backwards) and they will stumble back with their shield aside. Now you got the whole head to aim for instead for just the eyes.

As an Adept, same goes with shockwave.

As most people have said, a widow to the face is best.
Otherwise a whole bunch of power can remove the shield or force them to turn.
Finally, flank them.

I played the singleplayer part of the demo again yesterday, again as a vanguard. I noticed something odd. You know when your power icon is orange, with an arrow pointing down? In ME2, that meant that you couldn't use the power because of the target's protections, so I thought it meant I couldn't use Shockwave against the guardians. Apparently the icon is glitched in the ME3 demo or something. I tried using shockwave against them this time and it worked.

You just need Armor-Piercing Rounds or a Widow. Then they are like walking idiots waiting to get shot.

With my Phalanx (with scope and extended barrel), I can just headshot them through the slot with 2 or 3 shots.

I've never had the good fortune to unlock the Widow, so I'm stuck with the Mantis on my Turian Sentinel. If they're sufficiently far away enough, you can usually nail them through the visor in their shield for a headshot kill. At higher levels, I've boosted my damage enough that I can shoot a Guardian in the foot or leg with the Mantis and still get a one-shot kill.

It's a bit more tricky on my Krogan Soldier. Incendiary Grenade is useless against them, and Carnage just sends them stumbling backwards, but not lower their shield. Usually what I do is pull out my Claymore, wait until they get close, then fire a shot right at their visor. If one or two pellets get through the visor, that's usually enough to kill them.
