Been playing BioWare games since BG, I'll buy pretty much whatever they'd put out yet to be really disappointed (even DA2 was alright. Not great like DAO, but alright).

Ah yes the origins of my discovering of Mass Effect. Such a tale! I played Kotor 1 and 2 and Dragon Age Origins many times and loved them both. Then one of my friends kept telling me about Mass Effect and I was very ify about the game. It looked like it had potential but something about it put me off. Then one day during Christmas break I was bored and had already beaten all the games I owned. So I was looking through the Xbox market place and saw Mass Effect 1 for only 20 bucks. I was still ify but then I saw it was made my Bioware. I bought it and all the DLC immediately after and was blown away! I beat the first in a week and bought the second shortly after and purchased all the DLC available at the time and luckily for me I bought ME2 right when LotSB came out. It was easily the greatest game I ever played. I have been a die hard fan every since

Some people in my office were talking about Dragon Age: Origins and saying how great it was, so I picked up a copy. I was hooked right away and quickly became obsessed with it and Alistair. Then someone convinced me to make an account on here. Initially I was reluctant because I had no idea how one of these game forum thingies worked and I had very little to say on games because I'm not really that much of a gamer.

I crashed and burned on my first ever thread (some people are so damn uptight!) and a guy - I don't even remember his name now - added me as a friend despite that. He was my first friend and was a jolly good chap all in all. After that, I added Eli-da-Mage, got on like a house on fire and then things spiralled. That was two years ago.

Trying Mass Effect was also through recommendation. Although I liked elements of the first game - the environments were beautiful - it never really worked for me. I'm not into Sci-fi at all and although I keep trying, I can't seem to get past that. Now it's just a game which has, sadly, bad association.

Started with BioWare games by playing Dragon Age: Origins after hearing a friend talk about, got addicted and pre-ordered Awakening. Then after finally getting a decent gaming computer and switching over, that same friend gifted me with a copy of Mass Effect 2. I went back and bought Mass Effect as well, got instantly addicted... even more than I was with DA: O. Which I didn't think was possible.

I was interested in Mass Effect since I first saw it at E3, but I didn't have a 360 so I couldn't play it. I got interested in it again when it came out for the PC, but at the time I didn't have a computer that could play it, so again, I forgot about it. When I graduated high school, I got a new laptop and a pre-paided credit card with $25, and I wanted to use it one something I couldn't pay cash for since I didn't have a credit card and thus couldn't purchase many things online. After some thinking, I remembered Mass Effect and now that I had a computer that would play it, I decided to buy it. Four days later I had finished it and bought Mass Effect 2.

Oh are we sharing how we joined the forums too? Well in that case it was mainly an outlet for me to moan about DAII...

Mass Effect is also always described as a space opera, which does not sound appealing to me at all. though I'm still not sure what that is.

I own a PS3, so yeah, I never played the first game...
I had a friend who told me about Dragon Age: Origins though. What caught my attention was the fact that she accidentally romanced Leliana with her female rouge, and I wanted to try it! Still didn't beat that game though, since I really suck at RPGs, I guess... Well, I'll beat it eventually...

Anyway, there was this code inside about a blood dragon armor for Mass Effect 2. I just ignored it, for the most part. I then found the demo of Mass Effect 2 in psn, and decided to give it a shot, since I had nothing better to do. I had fun, but I was too lazy to buy it. Then I found the game at gamestop when I was bored and didn't feel like going home yet. It was $31, so I decided to just get it for the hell of it.

Ah, good times... That was just a few months ago, and now that I thought about it, it distracted me ALOT from my college-related projects...

In retrospect, the first Bioware game I encountered was MDK2.  My brother rented it for the Dreamcast.  I didn't play much of it; I'm not even really sure why I remembered it.  Anyway, I was a little surprised later when I found out it was from Bioware.

The first Bioware game I really played was KotOR.  I was a huge fan of Star Wars (in the throngs of prequel fever; I inhaled almost every EU novel in an 18 month period among other craziness) and an RPG fan (albiet jRPG, mostly).  Coincidentally, my buddies and I were trying to get in D&D at the same time, so a Star Wars RPG video games based off of the d20 system was timed just right to be the sole focus of my attention.  I actually don't remember much before the game came out in regards to hype or paying attention to the development, but I definitely remember playing it ALL THE TIME.  Ironically, one of the times I was supposed to do a D&D session with my friends I brought my XBox and was like, "No, dudes, THIS!"  Of course, its single player so they weren't too interested.

Anyway, that more or less sealed the deal for me.  Besides introducing me to Bioware, KotOR also introduced me to the world of Western RPGs (let's be honest, it started the newfound prominence in Western RPGs).  I got Jade Empire solely because it was developed by Bioware.  I started to (and still do, kind of, but I imagine not for much longer) consider Bioware's games all a part of a "series" rather than just related by developer.  Let's be honest, they're all pretty similar in feel and structure.

I didn't really pay attention to ME when it was in development since I didn't own a 360 and wasn't sure when I would get one.  When I finally did buy one in Jan. '08, Bioshock was actually my first purchase (I had been wanting to check it out for a while) followed closely by Mass Effect.  As you can imagine, I dug it.

Since then I've pretty much gotten all of Bioware's big releases when they came out, with the exception of Sonic.  DA was actually more of an impulse buy.  I wasn't really aware of the title at all prior to the run up to its release.  I initially assumed, for some reason, that it was a pre-existing IP or long delayed (partial credit) sequel (fail) or something, so I kind of ignore it.  I ended up getting it though since it is Bioware and reviews seemed to capture everything I dig about Bioware games.  It also seemed more similar to KotOR than JE or ME had (of course, the inent was to make it more like Baldur's Gate, but KotOR was more like BG than JE or ME so...).  I inhaled it.  I actually felt really guilty when I played it because that was pretty much all I did for, like, 2 days.  Fortunately, my wife is understanding.

ME2, DAII, and SWTOR (of course!) were all gotten on release day.  I actually learned how to build and then built a computer for SWTOR (worth it!).  I'd never really done PC games before.

Lately I've been going back and checking out Bioware's earlier catalogue.  I had always been interested in BG and BGII since so many reviews and discussion about KotOR brought that series up as an obvious precursor.  Finally got them, but I've been having issues getting into it.  There so many options!  And not just in the game.  There are tons of mods available and opinion seems pretty split on which are best and whether they're "necessary", etc.  Then, of course, you have the in game options of how you want to play it.  Overwhelming.

I've also recently purchased NWN, but I don't know when I'll get to playing it.  Ironically, I remember reading up on the game a little prior to ever playing KotOR (I actually didn't realize it was Bioware until a few years ago).  This was around the same time my friends and I were getting into D&D.  I thought it would be cool to check it out, but, as previously mentioned, I didn't do PC gaming (and didn't have the means at the time to get into it, so...).

tl;dr - Started with KotOR.

Wow, a surprising amount of people who only got on board with ME2. In early 2008 I was only 12 years old; I was in GAME (a UK store) and wanted to get some naff game that was a 15 (it might have been Medal of Honour), but couldn't because I was on my own so couldn't get my parent to buy it. So I settled for getting what looked like the only decent 12-rated game in the store, Mass Effect 1.

Took it home, played the first hour and hated it. The only RPGs I'd played before had been of the Japanese variety due to being a Nintendo gamer most of my life; the beginning with Eden Prime completely disinterested me because the combat was dodgy and I had been expecting it to be like Halo. How foolish we are as young. Anyway, I left it for months. Then one day, internet went and it was pissing it down outside; I had nothing to do so I decided to give ME1 another go -- I pushed through Eden Prime, and when I got to the part where Saren kills Nihlus I suddenly got interested and got a little more hooked from there. The Citadel nearly killed my interest again, but then I became a Spectre and there was no looking back from there.

I love RPG games and play only as female. It there is only man character in the game I don't play it. But BioWare always gives choices for each player :)
My first BioWare game was KotOR. I liked it very much. Then I played Baldur's Gate (yeah, very old game series but FANTASTIC!!!). Next BioWare game I played was Mass Effect. At first I didn't want to play it because all I heard was about ManShep. But my friend (she knew I was a huge KotOR fan) told me that in ME it's also possible to play as female and suggested me to try. So before buying the game I watched some vids on YouTube and liked the game a lot!
I'm a huge fan of BioWare games. Their game stories are amazing!!! <3

I was playing catchup. Started gaming when I was 17 in 2007 after I bought myself an HDTV and a Halo 3 edition Xbox 360. Played Halo 3 (which my parents bought me for Christmas), then Halo 1, then part of 2 (never did finish that one), then started scouring through my brother's collection of games for the 360 and original Xbox.
CoD 2, 3, Rainbow Six Vegas, Half Life 2 and it's episodes, Portal, and then...

KOTOR on our Original Xbox. It took me a while I must admit because shooters were my heroin, I just couldn't get enough of them. But I liked Star Wars and I had seen my brother play this game and I was bored so I gave it a whirl. Unfortunately for me, the twist had been spoiled several years prior so I of course named my first character Darth Revan (he he he). Made cutscenes where he denied being Revan by saying he was Revan quite hilarious.

I then played KOTOR II as we had that lying around but got stuck because I hadn't leveled up Atton (fans should know which part that was >:| ).

For some strange reason, despite my love of shooters, I hadn't picked up Mass Effect by this point. In fact I actively avoided it, probably because I had watched my brother play it a bit and felt like the gameplay didn't appeal to me.

It wasn't until I replayed KOTOR I and beat KOTOR II that I tried out Mass Effect 1. However it didn't take long for me to get hooked. I fell in love with the game quite completely, playing more and more thoroughly as I went along. My first playthrough was quick and I didn't do many sidequests. My subsequent playthroughs got more and more indepth. I started going out of my way to find and complete sidequests and took it upon myself to have a fully completed Secondary Objectives page. I even continue to search for minerals despite having completed that sidequest.

Strangely enough, I seem almost geared toward classic RPG elements like loot and leveling. A while back my brother revealed that, despite the fact that I played no games at the time, I had been the one that influenced him to search every nook and cranny for things. I loved to watch him play and comment on this or that (occasionally losing my temper; I had almost zero patience back then).

Anyway, after clearing my brother's catalog of games one of the first games I bought new for myself was the CE for ME2. I now own two copies of the game (one on Xbox which is my canon and one on PC which is for modding), all the story DLC (on my Xbox only) and have buried myself quite effectively in the lore and characters. I've spent hundreds of hours on this series I regard it as my all time favorite in gaming.

I've broadened my scope in gaming too. My list of installed games on my PC include such titles as STALKER: Call of Pripyat , The Witcher 2, Metro 2033, Dear Esther, and Anomaly Warzone Earth. I now won't buy a shooter unless it has a compelling hook. Crysis 2 has great suit powers, Metro has great graphics and atmosphere, STALKER is absolutely the god of atmosphere in modern gaming, and Deus Ex: HR had the story, character progression, dialog, and atmosphere to keep me entertained.

I'm not going to explain the abortion of storytelling that was Homefront...

No game can disappoint me that much again...

What platform are you on? Better question: does your PC have a dedicated graphics card?

The reason that second question is important is because I know that the Steam edition of KotOR runs fine on pretty outdated hardware. As long as you have a decent CPU and a dedicated graphics card I'm confident your PC can run it. Which in turn means that you can easily buy it on Steam for really cheap during one of their sales.

Failing that, the game still runs on an Xbox 360 if you buy the original Xbox copy. It glitches out occasionally (all sounds disappear) requiring you to exit out of the game entirely and enter back into it and sometimes it generates loud featureless sounds (like speaker feedback only more grindy and less squeally, if that helps at all) but it is completely playable from start to finish.

I just found, because of much better load times and lack of glitches, that the PC version was more enjoyable (despite worse controls).

I was going to a personal trainer, and he wouldn't shut up about how excited he was about Mass Effect 2 coming out. I hadn't heard of the game (I never watch Fox News), but he just gushed about it non-stop. I went to my local Game Stop. I found a used copy for 14 dollars, brought it home, and spent the next three days playing though nearly every mission and assignment. From that day forward I was hooked.

It started when I picked up a copy of Mass Effect Revelation and read its summary. My first impression was that it was a simple rip-off of Halo (the whole extinct race leaving behind advanced tech), but it intrigued me enough that I when I saw a copy of ME2 (yes, not ME1) for sale during Boxing Day, I bought it.

Played it, loved it, then when ME1 came on sale on Steam, I bought that, too. Played that, too, and loved it even more.

And here I am, waiting for ME3. Called my local EB today just to confirm that my CE is still on pre-order. Everything's good.

I saw a Trailer of Dragon Age Origins and was flashed right away, so i got the game and of course was addicted to it immediately (also with Ali and Zev :P). Next games I tried was ME1 & ME2, well to be honest i only enjoy ME2, but good games, and just as much as i prefer these games i enjoyed DA2.

And what makes me stay around here, are my friends and the my love that i found here.

A work mate recommended it back in early 2008 and I got hooked. As a peculiar side note, I've been through two 3 year relationships playing ME1 during the first, ME2 during the second, and now it appears I'll be playing ME3 as I head into yet another relationship...

Thanks heaps BioWare - you'll never know how much you helped me during that second relationship in particular. :P

As you were people.

I was able to play KotOR with just an integrated Intel HD card.  So long as the PC is fairly recent I doubt it really needs a dedicated card.
