I bought ME2 to see what all the hype was about, although I was sceptical as I don't particularly like science-fiction. I liked ME2, so I went out and bought ME1. Having played ME2 first I can see what Priestly was saying a while back about playing ME3 with a new Shepard and then going back and importing a previous Shepard, and I was thinking of doing that anyway; but I don't know if I actually will.
How did it all start for you?

I saw it when it first came out and saw the cover art. Honestly, it didn't draw me in that much, and thought it was just like the many games with awesome art, but little value. Then, when I went home to play it, I realized you could customize your character and got really excited because I didn't even know it was that type of game.
After that, the story and just the incredible nature of the game had me. It's everything that I like, in the most perfect format for me. What's also incredible is that after playing it, I realized that many of my favorite games had been made by Bioware, like Jade Empire and KOTOR.

I was looking up random stuff about KOTOR and came across a Karth/Kadain reference and the checked out ME1 on line, thought it looked good and went out and brought a used copy from GAME the next day. I got ME2 a couple of months after it came out and have pre-ordered ME3, can't believe I've got to wait until the 9th, damn the UK's PAL system.

I started playing games back in the Atari days where graphics doesn't mean a thing but little blocky pixels do. Most of the games I played during that time doesn't have story elements so much that gets me hooked. In comes Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights, I finally found a developer whose games I've always anticipate.
Since then, I bought all their titles (well most of the rpgs except Jade Empire...I missed that one I think) that they make to support them and enjoyes playing them as well. I even bought an Xbox360 to play ME1. Even though I don't have ethernet for my old 360 so that I will be able to download the free extra contents, I still bought ME2 CE (I haven't redeemed any of the codes/dlc yet even till now) since I love artbooks. And now... I am eagerly waiting for the ME3

I thought it was like star trek and i never bought it for a long time. Then i watched this video on YouTube and took an interest.
Got shivers down my spine on the first opening scene with the Normandy in the sol system. I still think Sovereign is a god among evil beings, I'm quite a fan boy.

I was watching the Sci Fi channel (before it became that abomination Sy Fy) and I saw the special "Sci vs Fi" and it was about ME1. It talked about how it was like an interactive movie and it had a deep story with a dynamic choice system. I was instantly hooked. I actually found a video about it on Youtube:

Saw a friend playing ME2, tried for a few minutes and ran to the store to buy both Mass Effect's. Now I'm waiting for ME3 to finish all of my 9 Shepard's story.
In fact, I discovered BioWare through ME2, bought Dragon Age because of that too.

This, after previously playing and thoroughly enjoying BG2, KotOR, Neverwinter Nights and Jade Empire.
I first discovered BioWare with a reduced purchase BG2 and still have the t-shirt.

I was actually looking for space-sims, and some (really crappy) web-site mentioned that the game let you land on ANY planet on the whole galaxy. Much like what Infinity: Quest for Earth is supposed to be like.
It sounded really cool, so I bought it. Needless to say, I got hooked up instantly with the dialogue system, the RPG stuff, and of course, the wonderful story. Never again I cared about exploring that much lol. Then came ME2, bought it day 1, enjoyed it even more.
I have to admit, though, I've only played each twice, so I'll try to start both and finish them as quick as I can in preparation for ME3, can't wait!
My ultimate dream is that BioWare pulls an MMO similar to Infinity in concept (hell, maybe w/ the same engine?) but revolutionize it with dynamic quests or whatever. Like, similar to EVE but with not so much emphasis on Economy.
Thanks BioWare, I've really enjoyed this saga and really look forward to the future of the IP.

When I saw a "making of" video before the release of the first Mass Effect. I was impressed with the character designs and locales, as well as the interrupt system. Been following it ever since.

Saw previews of ME1 in Game Informer. It showed pictures of all the aliens, but they were all in armor and helmets so they looked like weird alien robots, Imma sci fi junkie so I had to check it out... Followed it till it came out, now I'm here.

I have no idea, I remember buying Mass Effect 1 on launch, I probably saw a preview and thought it looked awesome. And well, it was awesome.

I first heard about ME back in 2009 when ME2 was winning all the best of E3 awards, I thought I would give it a try but I heard alot of people say Commander Shepard was a jerk and that really put me off. So a few months later when ME2 came out a friend of mine was really into it and he was telling me I should play it. I didn't buy it til June but when I first played ME1 I hated it, I genuinely thought it was the second worst game I ever played this console generation, (mostly cause of the combat and technical problems) I didn't even want to play ME2. I read alot of the reviews for ME2 and I decided to give it a shot, ME2 was really the one to make me fall in love with this series it even greatly improved my opinion of ME1, I started to appreciate it more for the universe, story and characters as opposed to the combat.
