I had seen the ME on store shelves when it came out but never caught my eye too much. Think Steam had a sale and I grabbed it a few weeks prior to ME2 release for $4.95. Rest is history, loved the story and characters. Playing ME right now trying to get all my different Sheps ready.
How did it all start for you?

Heard about it when it was first thought up, thought it sounded like a better more adult form of Fable and had to get it. Loved it, bought ME2 on the launch date loved that too.

Friend gave me an old copy of ME1 for my b-day. Loved it so much I went out and hunted down an ME2 CE... a full year after ME2 came out.
EDIT: wait, not a full year, just 9-10 months

My old roommate bought the first one when it came out and played it all the time. Before that I had always avoided science fiction games because they never really appealed to me, but as I watched him play his bug eyed paragon I realized i was hooked. I played through the game on his Xbox as a renegade with awful bright red hair, absolutely fell in love with it. So, when time came for me to move out, I bought my own xbox and a copy of ME1, and I've been playing it ever since. Whenever I finish a new video game I start up a another round of mass effect so I've got plenty of imports ready for ME3.

As the gamer I am, I got mass effect 1 just because it looked entertaining. But at the time, it seemed like any run of the mill sci-fi with a little lame shooter mixed in. Yes, I did like the story, but a good story in anything now a days isn't hard to find. That's when I hit the mission on virmire.....I, like so many other mass effect fans, loved the speech with sovereign. After I spoke with him, I instantly paused the game, turned away, and forced my eyes to close since I was punched in the metaphorical face. It was the first fictional character ever to make me feel puny and powerless in the universe. I didn't even know if i could kill it after that speech, despite it becoming my mission. After that, I became a massive fan, buying all the books and merch i can. Bought 2 on day of release. beat it. played a new shepard all over. it's the little feelings that your action effected some one that made me feel, good or bad that got me deeper into it. Now I wait for three to appear to conclude my shepard's mission.

I originally discovered Bioware by playing the 1st Balder's Gate game, which I still enjoy to this day. I played through the series and loved their take on the D&D universe. Years later I spotted Dragon Age. I held back from getting it for a while, as I didn't like the look of the back cover( thought it looked a cheap rip off), Finally bought it in a sale, and was HOOKED. Completed that game about 7 or 8 times (same for DA2).
Was not really bothered by ME. Never liked shooters (also I'm crap at them), but it was on offer for £5, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. I never looked back! Picked up ME2 for £9 after my second completion, then bought all the DLC that came out. Only got 2 weeks then I'll walk into my local GAME wearing my N7 hoodie!

When I finally decided to get a new console about two years ago. PS3 wasn't an option because it wasn't backward compatible and there was no way I was going to buy a updated system of what I had that I couldn't play my extensive library of games on. The DH wanted a Wii, but all I could imagine was he and the kids taking out my television while raging at some Mario game. That left Xbox, which had a good catalog, the 360 could play older games from reg. Xbox, and Kinect was on the horizon - Wii without the potential for collateral damage.
We bought the Xbox and I saw a copy of DA Ultimate Edition and something about it just hooked me. I hadn't played an RPG for a while, I wasn't even sure if I would like it, I hemmed and hawed... Finally, the DH bought it. I didn't play it for months, but once I did... Months of my life have been lost to repeated plays of that game.
Anyway, several of my friends and family saw me playing DA over and over and started suggesting I check out ME 1. I said no way. I'm no good at shooters, TPS is better, but there's no way I'm buying a game that I won't be able to finish. But they kept telling me to pick it up. Then a guy at my local indie game shop started telling me to get it, LOL, and after months of stridently rejecting the idea, I decided to rent the game. Pay five bucks, have it for five days, and if I can't get through it, well, I'm only out the five bucks.
Holy smack, I struggled and gnashed my teeth and screamed at the television, but Shepard's story was so engaging, I couldn't just give up. I finally figured out how to use powers and the powerwheel to help with hitting the bad guys. I figured out the best group to take with me to help balance out my crappiness, ROFL (I know there are a lot of Wrex haters, but that Krogan saved my a** plenty), and I started to get better. And better. Hey, I've never finished one or two on Hard or Insanity - I don't have a desire to play those levels - the game play itself isn't one of the IPs strong points, for me. It never has been nor will it ever be. I'm not saying it's bad, from what I've heard/read its decent, just that running around shooting won't ever be something I buy a game for, not ever. But the story was so good, so interesting, I had so many questions, I was genuinely delighted when Sovereign blew to bits. And I had to buy number 2 after I was done, no question at all. And despite being a completely different kind of story, I was just as engaged in number two, just as invested in the story, so when the third game became available for CE pre-order, I went to GameStop, bought and paid for it.
The third game may let me down. It may Anders me at the end. But the story has been so epic and wonderful up to this point, I just can't balk at what might be. I have to see the trilogy through to the end, ROFL, just like all eight of my Shepards.

I bought KOTOR 1 and 2 for my sons years ago, and also bought and played (and adored) Jade Empire for myself when it was released, so BioWare titles have been winners for a long time. I pre-ordered Mass Effect, played it and loved it, and I've never looked back. ;D

I saw that old promo pic for ME1, the one where he's holding up a rifle in some grass. It kinda fell off my radar since at the time I didn't have a 360 nor a good PC. Fastforward to 2009 when I got a really good PC, and ME1 and Halflife 2 where two of my first purchases for it, and to this day two of my favorite games of all time.

I played KOTOR 2, it was very good and I decided to get KOTOR to see what the first one was like. This was my first bioware game and I loved it even more than I loved KOTOR 2. I'm guessing I was around 12. Then at 16 I guess I bought Dragon Age and realized the developer was Bioware the ones who made my beloved KOTOR! I loved Dragon Age as much as KOTOR and eventually I noticed ME2 on a gamestop shelf and I thought "Hey this is made by Bioware too!" I picked it up and loved it, then decided to buy ME1 to enjoy the story from the beginning and the rest is history.

It's kinda funny...I can't really pinpoint why I decided to buy ME2. I hardly knew much about it at the time, and yet I just randomly ended up buying it a couple of days after launch. It wasn't even planned or anything.
But I got it, played thru it, and I've been spoiled by it ever since. (in a good way...i think)

Played KOTOR and liked it, then heard that Bioware was doing another space opera and got slightly interested, picked up ME1 a few months after it launched. Loved it, went on to pre-order Collectors editions for ME2 and ME3.

After ME2 came out, a friend of mine finally convinced me to give ME a try and let me borrow his X Box. 3 days later I had my own X-Box and used copies of both 1 and 2. Then I got hooked into DA. Found an old copy of Jade Empire for the PC. Now I essentially throw money at Bioware whenever they give me the opportunity, with the exception of Dead Space, which I just didn't care for. I have yet to be disappointed in such a decision, so I'll keep doing it.

Knights of the Old Republic! I heard that Bioware was going to make a new Sci-Fi RPG in the sane spirit, in a world they them self created and was enoth for me.

Happened a couple of years ago when I was borrowing a few games from my friend. He told me about how great Mass Effect was. Played it. Got hooked and sequentially bought both Mass Effect 1 and 2. Hook, line, and sinker.

Everyone was going bonkers over ME2 so decided to try it and immediately thought "This is sh*t." So I thought I might have better luck with the less acclaimed first one and sure enough, first impressions were ZOMG oarsome. However I got to IIlos, kept dying, then lost my progress and didn't have the heart to play anymore. Somehow I decided to give the supposedly better sequel another chance and once I got past the early sections it really got going.

It was late November for me, steam had them both on sale. So I figured I would give them a try, played the first one for while but I did't like it. So I played the second one until I got to the flotilla with Tali and she became an exile. Sooo I was like I can't let this happen to her, started a new game on mass effect one, beat that then beat mass effect 2. After that I was hooked been only playing mass effect one and two since November. I'm close to 200 hours for both games and I think I have 6 complete play threw.

I saw it's trailers and thought the conversation system was awesome, I had never seen anything like that before. Bought the standard copy, liked the game so much, that I then bought the collector's edition. What got me hooked was how immersive the universe was. Ever since ME, I compare EVERY game to ME. Used to buy lots of games, but bought very few games since ME because almost nothing seemed good enough after having played ME.

I saw the trailers for ME on IGN or one of those sites and went nuts trying to find out more. I then saw it was XBox only and cried
. I then saw it was coming out for PC and cheered
. I played ME 1, a lot and loved it. I then got ME2 and loved all except a small part of the ending which I found a little odd but I got over it. Now I'm eager to get into ME3 and see how all the choices for all my characters are going to pan out.
