Ever since Bioware confirmed that the DLC squaddie is a Prothean, BSN is in an uprorar. Some are shouting "bloody murder", while others (many of those being Collector Edition buyers) are just saying "who cares. BioWare has the right to charge what they want for optional content. Want it? Buy it!"

Well, here's the thing. What if the bonus DLC squaddie was revealed yesterday to be some Zaeed-like guy? Cool and all, but not really all that important. True optional content, you know. Your $80 CE would still be a great deal, right? DLC character, bonus missions, robo-dog, and all the other nifty stuff.

Say, BioWare also announced yesterday that there is another DLC bonus character, a Prothean, that ISN'T in the Collectors Edition, and everyone should pay ten bucks extra to get him, whether you have CE or not. I mean, they didn't promise it would be a Prothean in the CE, right?

So, would you be alright with that? Yeah, I didn't think so.

It was leaked pretty early on that it was a Prothean. You didn't even have to go to the script leak for that.

Yeah, I would be alright with it, I would leave the Zaeed character in the trash compactor room while I bought the Prothean Character for 10 dollars since I feel for such a character the investment is worth it.

i have the CE and i still think 10 bucks is WAY to much for Prothy, sure he was exclusive, and sure as soon as i knew anyone could buy him i new there would be a charge but 10 bucks is too much

It's the fact that Bioware are charging extra for a squadmate on Day1; a squadmate that has been in the works alongside ME3 and was in the original leakes script as a character integral to the plot. The fact that it's a Prothean just adds insult to injury.

1. It was a leak that was quickly taken off the net.

2. Not everyone is a geeky gamer like us who keep tabs on everrything that goes on. I truly believe that the majority of people buying ME3 don't know anything about it.

Well, I just intended to show the unfair position some CE buyers are taking here. It's OK by them, because they have the CE. I would think they also wouldn't like cashing out 80 bucks and then getting asked to dole out another 10, because, hey, noone said it would be Prothean, right?

Like I said, I would be fine with the extra 10 dollars to get Prothy, since he's prothy and looks like a space samurai.
I will pay 10 dollars to get space samurai swords for Prothy, just a suggestion Bioware.

I actually pre-ordered after it was revealed to be the Prothean.

If people think it's unfair that the Prothean is CE exclusive the are free to buy the CE themselves.

Except I wouldn't give two ****s if I had to shell out another $10.  I already spent $80, what's $10 more?  I'd be perfectly fine if the CE DLC character wasn't the prothean and I still had to pay for him.  But I don't have to, so this thread is pointless.

The question is irrelevant, because the Prothean IS the same as Zaeed. Cool and all, but not really important. The difference here is he comes only with the CE instead of with all new copies. I've yet to see one scrap of evidence that Prothy is critical to or even a significant part of the plot, except for this video put out by a Yahtzee-wannabe. The BSN is once again working itself up into a frothing rage based on nothing more than speculation and misinformation. If it wasn't a damn Prothean - which I still think is a stupid idea for a squadmate - nobody would even care, because the tinfoil epileptic trees theories that spawned this entire mess would be dismissed instead of generating a mass "OMG HEZ OLD HE MUST BE 'PORTANT!" hysteria over NOTHING. 

In your scenario, Prothy is at best Kasumi 2.0. More than likely I'd get the **** over it being another piece of Day 1 DLC and buy it, because I actually enjoy this series, and I'm not a whiny, entitled, overindulged so-called fan. If it bothers you that much, just pirate the damn thing and get your jollies from taking a stand against big evil corporate EAware.

I wouldn't mind if the CE DLC wasn't the Prothean and I still had to fork out for that. I like Mass Effect and I like what I've seen of Mass Effect 3 so far.

Paying for a bit of optional content, is fine by me.

Yeah, I would be fine with that. It's just a Prothean, whose race was already wiped out, and based on leaked sound files he doesn't know too much about his race or the reapers anyway.

So, would I care that I didn't get what ends p being a cosmetic addition to my squad? Nope.
Would I buy it? Yep.

Also, just to clear this up. We (CE buyers) pay an extra 20 bucks for a bunch of cosmetic changes to the game, and a few non-game items. That''s an extra 20 dollars for a bunch of stuff that really just alters the pixels. So, we're getting the DLC character also. You, (the SE buyers) pay 60 bucks for the standard edition, and have to pay 10 dollars for a Prothean and new armor sets for te entire squad.

You're still getting the cheaper deal. Quit ****ing.

as one who just preordered his copy of the CE, yeh I would be okay with it as long as Zaeed 2.0 was a decent squad member and had a okay side story. People are making a Mountian out a Mole hill...really

Zaeed was free, Prothy isn't. That's kind of the crux of the matter here.

Free for those who had Cerberus network, I don't know if all new copies got the network or just CE but I know at some point people had to buy it to have access.

I wouldn't call that free.

Not to mention you are implying the Prothean is worth in equal to Zaeed who was a terrible character with no real interesting background.
