I've been playing on my Turian Sentinel with shotgun only and I am loving him more than any other races and classes. He's extremely tanky when built with full tank talents due to tech armor. I just run up close to everything to omniblade or shotgun it. I also just recently unlocked the claymore and it was fantastic on him. I was able to one shot everything with a blow to the face. Due to my tankiness, I was able to position most of my shots so I didn't miss often. I'm just sad that I wasted points in Warp because now, I can't max out my Alliance Training for even greater damage.

I tried it on my Vanguard and it was so much worst than a Katana. The insane weight gave my Biotic Charge a rediculous recharge time. The super slow reload rate wouldn't let me kill fast enough and therefore dies because of the focus fire, not tanky as a sentinel or krogran, as well as being unable to cast another biotic charge for a shield recharge. Also, Vanguards uses their powers a lot so the Claymore just doubled their recharge speed so that sucks a lot.

I'm just terribly surprised that the best shotgun in the game does not fit that well with a Vanguard which are considered the best shotgun user class in the game. Instead, it fits the Sentinel extremely well because it's not as power reliant as the Vanguard. A Sentinel with a claymore is essentially a walking powerhouse, able to withstand a lot of damage and dealing slow but very large amount of damage.

Claymore should really be made a lot lighter.

It's a Krogan shotgun - of course it is heavy, what did you expect? :P

So it's super heavy, has only one shot per clip and slow reload time. That's a bit too much suck.
Katana is a feather compared to the Claymore, but has better DPS, RoF and more shots per clip. Something's not right here. Not to mention the Geth shotgun which looks insane based on stats.

^ So there is a GPS in this game. Perhaps the Widow isn't the best shotgun after all.

I wonder if those values measure charged shots or not.

The damage number for the GPS is if you charge it up.

Frankly the Scimitar and Katana are far more forgiving and allow you to take on more enemies. The Claymore is only good on the Krogan soldier, with a bayonet of course.

Still makes it a lot better and more forgiving.

Looking at the pure numbers, the Graal seems like a better alternative, it hits 1000+ and deals a damage over time.

Graal also has two shots per clip, right? Claymore should be adjusted a bit, otherwise it will be a niche weapon for krogan Soldier in MP, and it is not even the best choice for that class.

Besides it's power, it sucks.  Really long reload times and not alot of ammo make me regret giving this shotgun to my Krogan.

its a balance you can either go for the power of the shotgun but compromise your powers recharge time (claymore, or revenant) or go for a gun that is not as powerful but improves your recharge times.

I say it depends on the class as you noted with Soliders I use the best assault rifle and shotgun so he is extremely overweight but it does not matter because they aren't that useful on that class.

me personally i think it was a good idea to do this and make it that no matter what there is a plus point and a negative point to every weapon.

That's how it is SUPPOSED to work. But even when you ignore the massive weight, Claymore is not as good as the basic shotgun, the Katana. This is just bad. Claymore and other heavy weight weapons should be clearly superior to their light weight counterparts. Otherwise the whole weight system just does not work.

Shotguns are not good on a vanguard if you plan on using charge a lot - they weigh far too much. Infiltrators however are awesome - cloak, headshot, cloak, strip shields with energy drain(still cloaked), headshot etc..

My katana is only level 2, and I can take out phantoms really easily - the energy drain wipes their shield and stuns them, and a single headshot takes them out, or two normal shots. Long range enemies fall to a proxy mine, which I use like a cannon rather than shoot at the floor on the off-chance they step on it.

It's designed for a Krogan. In ME2 nobody else could even use it (except Shepard, due to "specialized modifications" if I remember correctly).

Be glad you're allowed to use it at all. If you don't like it, don't use it.

Have you tried the Claymore with the Krogan ? I play only gold and I really can't see myself swiching to anything else. One shotting EVERYTHING with AP ammo is no small feat, and the key of beating gold btw. Killing targets as fast as possible, reloading is not a factor. Soloing mechs one after another, can't do that with nothing else. It's not about dps, not about numbers so much as someone tried to explain, it's about how fast and how reliable you can kill targets. One shotting two guardians standing next to each other. One shotting centurions. And thats being in the front of the battle due to the shorter range. Camping from afar kinda teams always suffer at the last waves and hardly manage it when they get swarmed by phantoms and turrets. I'm inviting everyone who wants to see some Claymore awesomeness in gold, come play with me. I'm breezing gold all day and all night long for about 35-40min depending on team.

I've had amazing success using the Claymore on my salarian infiltrator. With just a melee attack with decloak with a Claymore shot followup I can take out 2 foes with ease.
