The problem is old - they had used the same key for storm/cover/use back in ME2.

Now with revive and roll its way way out of hand.

How long of coding would it take to put all seperate for keyboard users?

Seperating the Spacebar would be GREAT.

Seriously:

Sprint -> Left Shift
Cover -> Spacebar
Use -> E (Hold for Command Bar)

That would be GREAT. It would stop me from stupidly ducking behind a wall I'm trying to run past when a phantom is chasing me, and prevent the all-too-common teabag scenario.

I've lost quite a few good men and women to the A button. Good people...

I've had this happen so many times. It is really frustrating.

I'm on Gold. It's a desperate situation. 2 players dead. 1 on the ground incapacitated.

Phantoms surround me, 2 atlas' are creeping up on my position. I have my Sentinel taking fire from everywhere and my fellow Adept buddy is on the ground. I'm relying on her to save me once I revive her and she can use her amazing Stasis bubble crowd control.

It's getting close and tense but I'm heading to her, it's wave 9 and we're so damn close, it's a 'Capture 4 items' round and we've got all of them, we just need to survive. She has no medkits and neither do I.

I smash my way past a phantom and an atlas and I'm thrilled I survived. My friend is right next to me, I hit spacebar to revive her.

Instead I end up ducking behind cover and teabagging her with my Turian balls. I move out of cover quickly and aim at her, pressing spacebar as my shields go down. I teabag her again as I enter cover.

A phantom appears and skewers me so quickly that a Turkish chef who cooks kebabs all day long would have a tear running down his face at how well she does it.

Game over.

Repeat.

All hail the power of teabagging your buddy when you hit spacebar and end up dying.

Concept also applies to consoles. Press X or A for THE GREATEST BEST.

Please do not let this thread degenerate into BICKERING of console v PC. Thanks.
-----------

TL'DR - Hey BioWare, you uh... wouldn't happen to be able to allow us to change the 'revive' key. Yanno, to something other than the button that will fly your character into nearby cover with the slightest touch of W,A,S,D (or joystick) followed by spacebar/ X or A?

Because... I mean... it's just... :?

I didn't care about the one-button-for-multiple-actions thing until a similar thing happened to me.

"NO NOT COVER! I WANTED TO REVIVE HIM! ..and now I'm dead too. Yaaaay."

It's annoying to be sure.

This is really stupid having the run, action and dodge all on one button. Seriously in other games if you want to dodge you have to hold your joystick in a certain direction then press another button in conjunction to dodge or whatever. In ME2 and ME1 you had the ability to run by pressing down the A button and moving forward. Now in ME3 it's screwed up. You want to run you dodge. You want to dodge you run. You want to go behind cover you dodge or run. It is broken for all 3 systems PC, Xbox and PS3. I don't know what Bioware was thinking when they programmed those buttons but seriously they need to add a key binding option to the final game for both SP and MP. And for all 3 systems too. Cause seriously this is causing no amount of frustration for everyone playing this demo.

The difference is ME2 was stricly single-player, the combat was slower, and there was no revive option.  So if I got caught on a wall while retreating, the game was somewhat more forgiving, and since the combat so much less intense it was really more of an annoyance than an 'insta-death' mistake.

In ME3, not only is the Co-Op in, but there combat in Co-Op is much more intense, much faster paced, and to top it all off there is team that is relying on you.

I don't mind run/dodge/cover being on the same button. Once you get used to it it's probably easier than the alternative, since it's one less button you need to use.

Going back to ME1's "e" for interact would be a great idea though.

I don't mind run/dodge/cover being on the same button, I don't run all that often anyways. Especially as a Vanguard. (It can still be frustrating if you go to Cover by a wall when you're trying to run away, then you get shot in the back.)

What I really do mind and I have NO idea how the Devs were not annoyed by it is covering instead of reviving.
That's just bad.

My idea for fixes for problematic console controls.

Some easy solutions for the Xbox (and the PS3 I guess) is to have:
A = roll and taking cover
X = healing and hacking in addition to reloading
Left Thumbstick = sprinting

Having the left thumbstick be sprinting also allows me to rotate the camera so I don't run into walls like a moron. I cannot hold down A (X) and tilt the right thumbstick at the same time.

Nobody will mind a little redundance on the X button but having so many actions on the A button is literally killing my character.

Please fix this Bioware.

I have tried to post this as its own thread but they keep getting deleted for some reason.
Does anyone know why they keep getting deleted?

I agree with the OP. It's really annoying and I can't imagine why Bioware wasn't able to figure this out for themselves while playing their own game. It's the same in the single player as well. It happens to me every time I play the co-op, even when I actually have time to be cautious and focus on what I'm doing... it's so damn frustrating.

It does suck, thought the best defense for that is realizing you can revive someone from a lot further away then you can snap into cover. Hell there's usually away to start reviving someone while you stay completely protected behind a wall they're not even close to.

But yeah, in the heat of **** I often screw that up and start playing ping-pong with a wall nearby.

Feeling frustrated about this issue, I've chosen this thread to be the one that I bump, simply because of this statement.

The situation with the spacebar is totally inexcusable. It's not even a console port issue.

I guess the Xbox controller Bioware has only has two buttons or something. Or maybe they are all Muppets with only three fingers.
