He was calling the class repetitive and generic, not ineffective.
That sounds like every class in the MP.

They are a stable element on the field, capable of delivering a steady fire downrange, while also managing to take a beating.
They are not very flashy, but that's part of the job discription.

Plus isn't there problem with team synergy when all you can do is knock someone down / stagger the enemy before teammates can target them with a sniper shot or one of their powers??
Doesn't the above basically mean "ick"??

What I did was max my passives, and didn't use my powers, (Since Adrenaline sucks and spammig CS is boring)
So I loaded a Revenant and Widow on my Human Soldier. Lots O' Fun.

1) You don't rely on powers therefore you can take a bunch of weapons with you into battle without having to worry too much about your cooldown times.
2) Adrenaline Rush. It doesn't have the time dilation in MP but it still has that very beefy 30% Damage increase for its duration. Adrenaline Rush + Rifle = Easy Damage.
3) No weaknesses. Unlike almost all the other classes/races the Soldier doesn't suffer a 'primary' weakness, which is itself a strength.
4) Easy to be effective with.

Your way of playing [load up on passives / grenades / gold-level weapons] sounds like the only appealing way to play to me. Now I just have to unlock all of the "gold lovelies"
YMMV

Now it feels like...nothing, it's just devoid of any speciality.
Also frag grenades are horrible, just 2 and they bounce off somewhere completely of the mark.

I find that focusing on the maximizing carrying capacity and lowering weapon weight can be very useful.
My current configuration is an Avenger with a scoped Phalanx (for precision long range power), and my concussive shot CD is 1.5 seconds while Adrenaline Rush is 3 seconds (maybe 3.5).
With those cooldowns, I can spam CS when needed (very useful against most targets), and if I see a cluster of enemies (and don't feel like throwing a grenade), I can pop Adrenaline Rush to mow down that cluster without incurring a significant cooldown. It makes AR actually very useful (especially since I can get off a free CS each time, with the proper rank 6 evolution), which is a power that is otherwise underused (due to its normally high cooldown).
And let's not forget Frag Grenades, which are tremendously useful. If you can, fight near the ammo supply, and you can fairly spam grenades for excellent effect.
So, all in all, I'd say the human soldier is pretty good... but you definitely should not overload him. Keep the cooldowns low, and you will be very effective.

My recommendation is that you give he revenent the assualt rifle scope and stabilizer, unless your scope is level 2 or below, then I'd stick with the thermal expansion slot. The widow...is just that.
Until you get the goldie weapons, just roll with the Avenger/Mattock or Mantis/Scimitar. Depends on your preference.

I do have to say that 'spamming concussive shot' doesn't sound like very fun and varied gameplay.
Other classes have their powers that they spam too. You'll also toss grenades as Soldier too. It's not much different to my Vanguard. I just charge, maybe nova shoot few times and charge again.

No they aren't, you just need to learn to use them. They aren't targeted like the other powers.

Most powers that you spam don't push shielded Phantoms back like concusion shot does. It works very well against them, not to mention Atlas mechs, guys in cover, etc... I'm sure biotics can do that too, but they don't do as good damage with weapons as Soldier does. So you can deal damage and keep your foes in the ground.
It's a thing of beauty.

An engineer sees a Centurion and thinks alright, I'll overload him. Sees an armored enemy like a turret or Atlas, and needs to alternate overload and incinerate. Sees a Guardian and has to pull out a probe or turret to distract them. I just shoot them all in the face. And when it comes down to it, dead is dead.

I tried vanguard, adept, sentinel, engineer and they have all something special going on that makes you want to play them regularly, even Krogan soldier.
But human soldier is just all around dreadful, there is simply nothing going on with this class.
Yeah that's why it's the only class I've leveled past 15, or even past 10...
Concussive Shot, Frag Grenade, AR = PWNage...

Now Quarian Engineer on the other hand...*spam turret* boooooring (but I'll admit it's effective)

Maybe you should learn how to use them then?
And you can have 3, not 2.

I'm sick of having my Soldier bugged up (all the powers except adrenaline are not in the top bar, but they appear in the shift menu)
all of this because I got the solder to level up (even when it was not created yet) by earning exp via supplybox.
