Soldiers were IMO the best for Insanity in Mass Effect 1, and were still good in Mass Effect 2. Seems like they've been nerfed as the game has gone on.

It's definitely not the best class, but I wouldn't go as far to say it is bad.

I actually really like the human soldier. The key for me, for playing him is to carry a sniper and an assault rifle. The assault rifle helps out immensely when there's an atlas or you get into some close quarters fighting, or just breaking a phantom out of camouflage.

The sniper ends up being my main killing weapon (mantis, although I've been messing around with the viper and it's really not as bad as I first thought. Just need to level it up a bit). Splattering heads from a distance is a must. AR can give you enough damage boost to take out a nemesis in 2 shots (if spec'd for duration, you can get 2 mantis shots off in one AR). 2 shots will also take out pretty much everything but an atlas or a phantom... well, maybe a phantom.

I have AR spec'd for duration, 25% less dmg received, and 50% shield boost (although I only see it boosting my shields by 25% in game.. unless there's something I'm not understanding). The survivability is great, grenades are a hoot and highly useful, and concussive shot.. well.. I must say, I used it a lot on bronze, less on silver, and rarely on gold. The issue is, I need survivability so I'm using AR over CS in gold matches. Not to mention the damage boost.

I haven't tried a widow soldier with mantis yet however.. simply because I have yet to unlock the widow. But sniping just seems to be far and away the best best. Also, anyone liking the Avenger X better than a Mattock? I have a Mattock IX, but still I prefer the Avenger X. I'm finding the weight far and away better, not to mention the damage really isn't that much of a difference in terms of "time to kill", obviously per bullet the mattock wins. But.. with the expanded clip size and the stability, I'm finding the avenger to be a great weapon.

So I haven't played the human soldier much and unfortunately I listened to some of the people on these threads who said Adrenalin Rush sucked without really checking it out for myself. As a result i put points in everything but. Then I went back and checked out the skill tree and actually looks pretty good +50% weapon damage +50% shields. I will be giving the human soldier another chance when the full game comes out.

rofl......what? This is one of the most imba mp's i've played in a long time. Try an asari adept then a human one.


Stasis and Cloak will always be op based upon what they do.

The rest are fairly well balanced, it's just the nature of ME gameplay of course some are better than others but only marginally.

I’ve had fun with the Human Soldier. Concussive Shot is wonderfully useful against many of the enemies. The frag grenades are good against turrets and Atlases, as well as groups of soldiers (or individual ones, if necessary). Adrenaline Rush is useful, too, though it's easy, for me at least, to forget it's there. Rather than functioning as a one man or woman army, I've used the Human Soldier in something of a supporting role, taking heat off of the squishier classes.

I'll agree that it is a little repetitive to play as a human soldier; however, it is also quite fun to do so. Concussive shot is a great power that is able to stagger an Atlas, strip off the barrier of a Phantom, stagger Guardians and make them easy kills, and knock down pretty much all un-shielded enemies. I usually roll with just a Predator X, which is an amazing pistol, on Bronze and carry an Avenger as well on Silver and Gold. Frag grenades are fairly powerful and useful in a pinch. I don't use adrenaline rush all that much, but haven't really found the need to anyway. The main problem I see with soldiers is their lack of anti-shield capabilities. But then again, a lot of other classes have powers that counter shields effectively. If you play well, you can easily outscore other classes using just a pistol and your powers.

Human soldier, grenade spam + concussive shot for the barriers. Solves 90% of problems.

2 damage upgraded grenades take out most single targers (except the obvious atlas) in bronze.

They tend be blah in multi-play. Adrenaline rush doesn't translate over well. They should have been given some other perk for multi-play.

I find adrenaline rush to be quite useful, it's a strength buff, makes you stronger. I use it the moment my sheilds go down and just gun down whatever is trying to kill me. I can't remember, but I think I levelled it up to give a damage resistance bonus, which is something I use it for when getting team mates back up too.

I think it's been used quite well, but to each their own :D

2) Adrenaline Rush. It doesn't have the time dilation in MP but it still has that very beefy 30% Damage increase for its duration. Adrenaline Rush + Rifle = Easy Damage.

Ad rush also instantly reloads the thermal clip in your current weapon.
I'm kind of surprised no one has ever brought that up in any post I've seen.

On Bronze and silver, he is manageable. On gold, I get pwned while playing with it. Have ditched it for Vanguard and Infiltrator. In single player however, soldier is still my favorite class.

Edit: On gold, grenades don't get restocked that soon. You get 1 grenade at a time and have to stand like for a minute beside the ammo crate to refill more.

It does, it took me a while to figure it out since my first instinct with ad rush is to reload before hand, but it does.

You can fire all 60 rounds of a revanent or 8 rounds of a simitar and have it all instantly back when following up with ad rush.
It may not be a big deal with something like the avenger which has a fast thermal clip reload animation as it is, but I can see it being pretty amazing with low capacity weapons, or if you want to hold the trigger down on a revanent for 120 rounds.

for a maxed out ability, only being able to use it X amount of times a round is just bad.
whenever i get to an ammo box i should get my X amount of grenades i'm capable of carrying.
and it isn't a single event, it's every time, on every class that has grenades.
get's tyring spamming ccs, and it's an ammo box, if everybody get's full ammo all the time, i should get my nades.

It's true, I don't find myself using it a lot.

I've been playing human soldier from the start - got to lvl 18 with him, though I mainly just use the weapons and grenades.

Strange why there is so much hate for it really, I found it to be a great support class for all team members.

I've used Ad Rush with Shotguns/Heavy pistols and that seems to be pretty effective as well. Along with maxing out Frags.

The only class that consistently outscores my human soldier are those damn asari adepts. But yeah, the human soldier is awesome.

The Human Soldier isn't terrible; Concussive Shot and the Frag Grenade have their moments. But it gets outshined by a lot of other classes.

I like rolling with a scoped carnifex and spamming concussive shot. It seems easier to curve it around cover than most tech/biotic attacks. Grenades are great when enemies are clustered in a room together. I hardly touch adrenaline rush though.
I want to see how a Turian soldier plays, thats right behind Krogan sentinel for what I want to play once the game comes out.
