In the spirit of fan safety next time we will attach copies to some wild boar and let them loose on an active runway.

just wish bioware would launch one from newcastle.. since i no longer live in london but the north east instead now

As a geordie myself , I second this Posted Image

I just hope eager fans don't put themselves at unneccessary risks in order to get the game. The game is getting released regardless, its not worth stoving your head in against a cliff face or something

There is a camera. They record but cannot transmit. Videos to follow once we retrieve these things.

OK, what's going on? Did anyone find either of the baloons yet? Or did the bears eat them already?

Both are fairly inaccessible in the CA mountains at the moment. One reportedly stuck in a redwood tree (them things are HUGE) and one supposedly on a cliff.

Where is the redwood tree intel coming from?

I guess both are irretrievable unless you have climbing gear.

It'd be pretty awesome if they ended up somewhere out on the dry lakes near Primm. Nice, wide, and open.

Derek...can one of you BW guys shed some light on this so called "password" we are supposed to have to claim the prize? When we signed up on the site, it only asks for our E-mail address, and we dont have an option to put in a unique password like the site says we are supposed to.

We are adding tonight. Previous entrants dont need to worry about it.

A bit of an update - the launch of the Vegas balloon will be at around 10:50 AM. Not certain on which callsign this balloon will have yet. Video coming in soon.

Also - take note that the Paris launch won't be happening. There are too many Reapers in the sky and the balloon will just pop on one of their pointy leg things. (we couldn't get it through Parisian regulations in time because we brought a balloon to a jumbo jet fight when it comes to legalities)

So since this has been seemingly consolidated to a single launch is the payload doubled? Or did our chances of a copy just get halved because of the weather?

Is it a single launch?  they keep refering it to the 1st launch

There is only one launch. Be sure to post pics here if you go chase this thing.

Hey guys, this launch is using a different frequency so the APRS website likely won't work.

We're working with the launch team to update the co-ordinates on our site but they'll be delayed 30 minutes or so.

You can start to see the data now, note that we don't have altitude this time:

Just so you know it looks like the GPS unit for this balloon is sending an update every 10 minutes.

The plan is to use the APRS site if we can but they have a limited number of units and some are still stuck in the wilderness. :)

Our page won't update automatically, you'll have to refresh. We don't have all the cool tech like the APRS guys have on their site, and I only had about a day to build our version. :)

Looks like someone missed a minus sign in the longitude, should be fixed.

Hey Jesse any idea why Las Vegas is locked for many people?

They probably haven't agreed to the contest rules. In flight balloons won't show up until you do.

Jesse.Reid: I just saw Paris is no longer in the list, did something go wrong with the authorization ?

Yeah, Derek posted about it earlier in the thread. They couldn't get permission or something along those lines.

Yeah, they were giving us the altitude in feet, I've converted it back to m. They think it might be on the ground now. Looks to be just outside Golden Valley.
