Something tells me it's under the complete control of humans, there's no 'see where it lands' about it at all..

doubtful

The Terms and Conditions say EA people will be there to meet fans when it lands. They'll record the first two people to arrive, and in the event of a tie there'll be a ME trivia quiz.

How could they possibly guarantee that they get there before the players do, if they didn't know in advance where it was going to land?

I hope someone gets seriously injured during this money wasting pr stunt, sues the pants off of EA and they're forced to sell off every IP and studio they've milked, wasted, ruined, or left dormant over the years.

Please oh please oh please make it happen.

the thing is - its being launched by the university - I expect they have launched lots of weather balloons, im sure theres gonna be some "scientific" reason why it wont drift out to sea (convection or something)

well as alluded in another post - weather baloons are predictable due to convection

notice how its beding a course along the coastline - but not crossing it? the air changes when sea meets land and the baloon will follow the path of least air resistance - along the coastline

I love how conveniently the Ballon fly by the coastline without getting out to the sea xD

Has it only just launched? These things take hours to reach the stratosphere and crash back to earth again.

It's in a pressurised container that will be extremely heavy,  that'll do some serious damage, but I suspect it will have a decent sized parachute for the descent!
