LOL! It's stuck on a massive tree and one guy almost fell climbing it to get the game.

What's the potential range of these things? For instance when they release it from London, is there any hope it will travel 100 miles north and land in my garden?

Well if the average flight time of these is 2 hours, then the wind would have to be blowing 50mph, which while this sounds strong, is not entirely unfeasible at 30,000 ft and above. Still, I would not hold your breath :)

Well you never know I guess, our weather is somewhat more...unpredictable than California's! Unless it lands within twenty miles of my house, I'm not getting in the car!

Okay, so today around EGLL (Heathrow) it looks like we have... a 65 knot wind (74.8mph) from 270 degrees at 24,000 ft. Reasonably strong, but not blowing north :) Up at EGPC (Wick airport) it's a scary 100 knots (115mph) from 270 @ 24,000 ft.

BioWare better think about the New York launch, winds are going to be around 30 mph, with gusts as high as 55!

Why can't they just hand them out like a normal gaming promotion would?

If the forecast is right the games will make company to the Titanic in the Atlantic Ocean.

It's looking like the Vegas contest might see the games blown off somewhere in the mountains...

Actually, I think the promo is a good idea!

Now if only it will sail away on the wind currents and land on Atreiya's lanai.....

I think there's a real good chance that none of the games in the USA part of the contest will be reclaimed.

The Berlin guys will certainly pick it, the city is on the middle of a plain with no major obstacles around it.

I definitely think it is an inspired idea, and the whole premise of sending the game into space is really cool. I just wish there was a better way to... control the outcome, as it were.

Anyone know what the ascent rate and the descend rate of the NRMNDY and SHEPRD were? Trying to run numbers for London... so far it's got it going over the channel, but that's on default 5m/s on ascend and descend.

So nice to see Canada could get to participate if New York gets pretty strong northbound wind.

Surface Winds will matter little as winds at higher altitude are faster and more consistent than at the Earth's surface. Infact they're around 3 times more powerful. Furthermore if the New York Balloon encounters the North Atlantic Jetstream then the poor fella is going for a drink in the atlantic! Be interesting to see how many eager rowers we have to try and claim it!!! :P

Well, going over all the weather patterns, wind speed and trajectory, I have an idea of where the Vegas ones wll end up.

Ok...current time is 05:10am Vegas time, so the site isn't even active yet.

Judging from everything, and assuming an average 3-3 1/2 hour flight time, I'm predicting the games to land somewhere in the Victorville/Barstow/Kramer Junction area of California. If launch times are at 7am and 9am, taking an extra 30 minutes or so of technical difficulties (because these things never launch exactly at time), that would be my estimated landing zone. If flight time is slightly less, I would expect landing somewhere just a bit East of Barstow.

now, why don't I go off after these? I am a good 8 hours+ away from the location, and touch down will be in approximately 7-7 1/2 hours for the last one, I'm guessing. I think it would be a waste of a trip. A lot of gas spent for a game that I could buy for only $60 and a dollar in gas if I waited a few more weeks ^^

Good luck though, to whomever shall go in search of the games. Better hope the packaging is both water tight and floats for the New York launch one
