What's the potential range of these things? For instance when they release it from London, is there any hope it will travel 100 miles north and land in my garden?
Well if the average flight time of these is 2 hours, then the wind would have to be blowing 50mph, which while this sounds strong, is not entirely unfeasible at 30,000 ft and above. Still, I would not hold your breath

Well you never know I guess, our weather is somewhat more...unpredictable than California's! Unless it lands within twenty miles of my house, I'm not getting in the car!

Okay, so today around EGLL (Heathrow) it looks like we have... a 65 knot wind (74.8mph) from 270 degrees at 24,000 ft. Reasonably strong, but not blowing north

BioWare better think about the New York launch, winds are going to be around 30 mph, with gusts as high as 55!

If the forecast is right the games will make company to the Titanic in the Atlantic Ocean.

It's looking like the Vegas contest might see the games blown off somewhere in the mountains...

I think there's a real good chance that none of the games in the USA part of the contest will be reclaimed.
The Berlin guys will certainly pick it, the city is on the middle of a plain with no major obstacles around it.

I definitely think it is an inspired idea, and the whole premise of sending the game into space is really cool. I just wish there was a better way to... control the outcome, as it were.

Ok...current time is 05:10am Vegas time, so the site isn't even active yet.
Judging from everything, and assuming an average 3-3 1/2 hour flight time, I'm predicting the games to land somewhere in the Victorville/Barstow/Kramer Junction area of California. If launch times are at 7am and 9am, taking an extra 30 minutes or so of technical difficulties (because these things never launch exactly at time), that would be my estimated landing zone. If flight time is slightly less, I would expect landing somewhere just a bit East of Barstow.
now, why don't I go off after these? I am a good 8 hours+ away from the location, and touch down will be in approximately 7-7 1/2 hours for the last one, I'm guessing. I think it would be a waste of a trip. A lot of gas spent for a game that I could buy for only $60 and a dollar in gas if I waited a few more weeks ^^
Good luck though, to whomever shall go in search of the games. Better hope the packaging is both water tight and floats for the New York launch one
