Usually the wind direction you see in the weather report is for surface winds. Wind direction can be a lot different for higher altitudes.

Passed into AZ now, making a beeline for Kingman.

but there is extra weight with the extra stuff on board? if so it may not be able to climb to that point

Same here, screw Doc's orders..... my bed rest wouldn't be so bad with Mass Effect 3 to keep me occupied

You add more helium to compensate for the added weight. The balloon has to, *has to* reach it's burst altitude otherwise it will remain floating for days and days causing a hazard to air traffic, etc.

And, of course, no ME3 Space Edition.
