Because if you have a good trigger finger you can decimate a dozen enemies in less than a minute.
Why do everyone use the M-96 Mattock.

Somehow it reminds me of the M1 Garand, and I'm fond of that rifle. Yeah, I know, choosing weapons statwise is more... wise, still, I enjoy using the Mattlock most.

I like M-920 Cain best;)
Why?
My answer are like Bruce Willis answer in The Fifth Element "Big boom, big baraboom"

Because its powerful and being semi-auto you don't get rookies spraying bullets and wasting ammo.
You're part of the reason why soldiers get killed in CQB scenarios. Semi-auto (especially with 5.56 rounds) doesn't work well in cramped, frantic fights.

This is why I use the Revenant. I like to get close to my enemies in the MP.

Because Matthew Shepard should use the MATTock.
Edit: If we're talking MP, I use the sniper pistol - err, the Carnifex, with a few upgrades/mods.

Always preferred the Avenger. Good range/accuracy in bursts. And a hella good hail of bullets when you needed them.
Mattock is great, but it just lacks that bada** factor, y'know?

I only have Mattock and Avenger in MP so.
Talking about rifles though: The Revenant was Soldier exclusive in ME2. Could a non-Soldier Shepard use it in ME3 I wonder?

Combined with adrenaline rush in ME2, it was insanely powerful since you could empty magazines in an enemy much faster, with a damage bonus on top of that.
Also, I like the sound it makes.

For every Avenger rifle, you could make 5 Mattocks. They're the older, reliable, and easy to produce guns. If rocket launchers are boss, why doesn't EVERY soldier have a rocket launcher?
Cerberus is tight n cash, especially since their biggest investment, is now actively killing them.
So they're going cheap to broke. Hence using Mattocks.
