I know I am one of the few here, but I actually like it, and it no were NEAR the worst system for unlocks, if anything the worse was Gears 3, were they put item attached to basically chore like task, "Get 1,500 kills to unlock a Black skin for one of your weapons, now do that for all the rest," or "Win 100 times in EVERY game type". None of which had small rewards on the way to unlocking what you wanted.

At least here if you didn't get what you want you still got something!

The last 26 veteran packs (i.e. 520k credits) got me absolutely NO golden cards. No thank you. This system blows.

Let see you can get 1-2 Packs per Silver run, more per gold run, and you STILL get **** you can use, sorry it wasn't a fancy unlock but those mod upgrade/Other gun upgrade come in handy specially when starting a new character.

Again it's not that bad.

Your also basing this on the idea there isn't going to be a 3rd pack with HIGHER chances for gold cards.

Nope. If anything i prefer gears because .

1. they infact ask me to challenge myself by completing certain tasks in the heat of battle.
2. its just in good spirit, most of those medal dont even give you anything people just like to say theyve do it and wear the title.

This is almost as bad as lost planet 2

Challenge =/= Grind, There is nothing challenging about getting most of gears stuff, it all about just doing the same thing over and over, even the poorest of shots will get 1,500 kills over time, and that all it is a Giant freaking time sink.

This is basically like saying that getting a MMO character from One - Max is a Challenge... when it not..

Absolutely agree. I really like the pack system and absolutely can't stand the Gears' system.

The Pack system is nice and all and a good concept...I just think they should increase drop ratios on things. Getting weapon upgrades is nice, but I'd very much like upgrades for classes.

I can bet good money there will be a 3rd costly pack that has a higher % of gold drop rates.

Probably the "Elite pack" or "Specter Pack".

needs to include more items.

5 with only 1 actual weapon or character is not enough.

The starter pack should also give us 1 free unlock card for any class+a weapon of our choosing.

Probably, and if I know EA as well as I do...they'll probably have some sort of $2.99 DLC that lets you buy a pack.

If they do this it is likley this will be why the chose the pack system all along.

I completely agree with you Vetto. The system as it is now is fun so long as you're not an impatient child who feels they should have everything they want immediately. It adds longevity to the game, makes getting upgrades you want much more enjoyable, and makes playing addictive.

I got what I wanted and I still don't like how rare the races are, does that make me an impatient child?  No one is asking for everything immediately, but I find it funny that this system allows for me to have a chance at getting what I want in my first pack :P

As for longevity, I'll play the game longer if I'm having fun with the diverse races that are not offered in single player.  I''m not going to have fun grinding out to get the things I'm missing, and I most likely will lose intrest if I'm down on my luck for too long.

I really like the system, but there are clear flaws that are being addressed

I don't mind the packs, I think they could use some tweaking, and they might have received it in the full game, we don't know.

I would love the ability to gain "buy points" and buy a character or upgrade them. I would love for there to be a way to unlock the classes you want, even if it takes more money then packs. Sometimes you just really want something even if it costs you a lot more than a random pack. I mean I have like 30ish rockets but it is impossible for me to gain a medi-gel. I would love to try new vanguards and upgrade a shotgun.

I've stopped buying veteran packs and just went for spamming recruit packs. I've found I generally get more and better stuff. Instead of getting one character boost or upgraded gun you get four. It's probably because its the demo and only half of the items are available. But right now Veteran packs are not worth the 20000.

I really like this system. I think it's fresh and it's fun to use (yea and maybe frustrating). But imo it's better than a system where you unlock special things with your rank etc. I hope there are more packs in the full game not only that two in the demo

I agree i think i will be better when the full games out and higher packs are available, and this is coming from a person who has practically everything but the one thing he wants.

It's a refreshing take on the whole rank-up-craziness that's going on nowadays, I'm really glad they didn't copy/paste the CoD-style.

Opening the packs provides excitement every single time, it reminds me of my childhood when I bought hockey cards.

I'm impressed by the level of self-righteousness and arrogance in this post. Is it really that incomprehensible that people who have been teased with the option to "choose from a variety of classes and races"  for many months are now a bit miffed by that choice not being available? Is it so hard to understand that the community of a roleplaying video game franchise actually includes roleplayers that were looking forward to play a specific class/race/gender combo in multiplayer as well, for the first time creating their first "own" ME character?
It seems so.

Let's see you being locked into male Shepard Soldier for the singleplayer campaign until (if!) you unlock something else. And of course customization would be limited as well. Wouldn't that be "fun"?

Also: this thread is both new and exciting.
