Mass Effect 3 Demo Analysis/Feedback
Please use this thread to post ideas for improvements and ideas to inspire the Bioware team working on the Mass Effect series.
I’m gonna keep this short. This thread is more for the Bioware/ME devs than it is for forum goers. But feel free to comment as your feedback can definitely help the dev team by giving them inspiration and direction from the fans.
The Good
1. Customization, weapons, mods, chracters….CO-OP is packed full of really cool “stuff”
2. Emphasis on teamwork.
3. The CO-OP is its own separate entity, but stays within the ME universe.
4. Lots of fun to play with friends. I think this is most important.
5. Omni Blade - I approve
6. The AI enemy is good, not excellent but pretty good.
The Bad
1. Game mechanics are stiff and sterile. Body movement, camera angle strays off when running left or right.
Gears of War or even the new game Binary Domain would be good 3rd person shooters to look at with what I call “loose” movement mechanics. Tapping in and out of cover doesn’t work all the time. There are just a lot of issues with the movement and cover mechanics. They ARE very similar…as far as I can tell, to ME 1 and ME2...which is good. But for CO-OP…mechanics need improvement.
2. The UI just doesn’t look high speed or high tech and can be confusing for people unfamiliar with ME. It can be confusing for people that are familiar with ME as well. It doesn’t look cool either. Its too plain. The UI works well once you understand it…it is a good UI, just not a kick-ass UI.
Suggestions
Team needs to study more 3rd person shooters to get a looser feel captured in the game mechanics. It would change ME, but for the better. There is no way that ME will ever have a versus mode without updating the mechanics. That camera strays off when running …not good.
I would suggest that when a player goes down in CO-OP, instead of having their body, limp and lifeless. Make them go down to their hands and knees and tapping “A” or “X” would revive them if they were alone. Once up they would have no shields and minimum health. If medi-gel is used, full health and full shields. If team-mate revives- half health.
But I would give the player a chance to get up on their own, other than using a medi-gel.
I would also suggest that a wider variety of AI enemies is needed. There should be some CO-OP maps with “creatures” and not soldiers 24/7. I would like to see a “WAVE 10” with a huge creature to fight…would make CO-OP feel more like playing the story mode.
The addition of more level design would help as well, expand the boundaries of the playing field. In the new game Syndicate...its CO-OP actually has unique missions that feel like you are playing 4 player campaign combined with some great aspects of competitive style MP. I was hoping ME3's CO-OP was going to be the same.
All in all, the SP and CO-OP will be really fun…but with some improvements the next ME game could be so much more. Weapons, characters, the customization, the difficulty settings make the CO-OP really fun. But now that the “online stage” is set…work on the mechanics and UI for the next game. #ME4

Nah, I wanted a separate link for my post. I'm sure there are actually 10 or 20 of threads like this...if Bioware wants to consolodate them...great!
There are people in the industry that I know, that don't want to scroll through pages of posts just to read mine. I made this for them.
60 pages of posts to filter through....I wouldn't do it.
