Which is better in your opinion? Ive played both classes in the demo and they seemed pretty equally matched as apposed to ME2 where playing vanguard on insanity was a massive pain in my a**. So what do you think?

I'm on a fence about them. But really look at it like this:

Soldier is more defensive and Vanguard is more offensive class. If you want to attack your enemies straight on, Vanguard is better option, but if you want to use your gun more and keep your distance, Soldier is pretty good for that.

But for singleplayer I usualy go for Vanguard, thanks to it's "Heavy risk, but the priiiize" gameplay.

Depends what you mean by better. Soldier is great if you just want to shoot stuff and fire off the occasional power. Vanguard is easier to play in me3 than it was in me2 due to nova and improved melee. Personally I would take the vanguard any day of the week because it's more fun to play.

Dude, go with Vanguard. I personally have never had a smile last so long on my face as it did while I was charging my way through the Cerberus ranks. Don't forget, they aren't as evenly matched as you think because all the cooldowns in the demo were really high. The vanguard's charge could cooldown could be as low as a 3 second cooldown.

Can i still get a quick cooldown with 3 weapons or will i have to stick with just one?

Go with Vanguard. You can switch classes in 3rd game again if you don't like it!

In ME2 weapons don't affect your cooldowns.

Hmm... but I can't really speak about ME3 as I haven't played the proper game yet. But I think you can use talent points to reduce the weight of your guns, so you can carry more weapons with you.

But if weapons are your main and only concern and you wish to only use them, go for Soldier.

I think you can play without the charge thou.

For me Vanguard is like Soldiers + Adepts best sides.

Soldier is the only class to get the Assault Rifle (before training). I saw the Vanguard as more defensive than the Soldier. I didn't care for the power selection of the Vanguard; when I got to Haestrom on Hardcore, I just gave up trying to get the Assault Rifle because I kept dying as a Vanguard. I walked through as a Soldier; if you want pure offense, go Soldier. If you like to play keep away, do a Vanguard.

At least it's not as bad as an Infiltrator....ugh....hope that got fixed in ME 3. Felt the Infiltrator was weak.

Well, in the MP demo you don't even need weapons at all with a vanguard. Just charge into an enemy, than use Nova and then just charge again. Take a SMG with you and you won't even notice a cooldown, at least if you took all the upgrades which reduce it. If you import from ME2 it won't be hard in the SP too, since you most likely can max out Charge and Nova right at the beginning.

It's about preference. I, myself, prefer Vangaurd. I'm addicted to charge, it's like crack, even named my MP Vangaurd Drell Crackhead, lol.

Soldier- If you want as many guns as possible.
Vanguard- If you're willing to limit the amounts of gun you have for the sake of biotic abilites.

Agreed. Charge is the best, but an adrenaline rush with an inferno Revenant is alsot great fun.

I prefer Vanguards over soldier, even on Insanity. Nothing like the thrill of charging and shotgun blast to the face of your enemy.

I prefer heavy melee over shotgun because recharge is better without the heavy shotgun, lol. In ME3 at least, ME2 gets a shotgun. Usually anything that survives a "wtf was that?!" charge is stunned long enough to easily get a good connecting melee on... usually... I still tend to sometimes miss even when it looks like I was more then close enough. Image IPB

if you only had to choose between these two, I'd say go for Vanguard for sure. Nothing beats the fun of biotics :) Soldier is the only class I've not bothered playing cos plain shooter FPS style dated 10 yrs ago is getting real old on me now :P that kinda give away my age but you know what i mean. Tactics/Combos are what makes ME interesting and differenciates itself from all other FPS games out there :)

Vanguard no question imo. They are just too much fun to play in ME3 with improved powers and cooldowns. I just can't imagine changing my class after playing it in MP

I was a Vanguard in ME1, but changed to Sentinel in the sequel due to the difficulty biotics had affecting shielded/barriered enemies. While Sentinels certainly were powerful jack of all trades, the class was ultimately a little bland. Now I've seen the ME3 videos of Vanguards on crack, charging, novaing and meleeing. While certainly thrilling, I'm starting to think the ability enforces a repetetive style of play that will eventually will turn a little stale.

I prefer a more tactical approach to combat, but would still love the occational biotic god smack down every so often.Would the Vanguard class still suit my needs to mix up combat or would I sort of be stuck between two chairs, better off with another class?

PS. Anyone got experience with the new Shockwave, I see it causes damage and has a mutation that increases biotic detonation damage so I'm hoping it is a much more viable power than it was in ME2. But how is this detonation triggered, does anyone know?

Vanguard gives you tactical approach, because you always have to think few steps ahead of yourself and make sure you don't get swarmed.

Vanguard.

And insanity (on ME2) isn't difficult with the class if you spec correctly and use powers efficiently/tactically.

Vanguard will be BROKEN in SP with the ability to pause and readjust your crosshairs at will. If you're halfway decent with a Vanguard in MP, play Soldier if you want a challenge.

Ive made up my mind. I'm gonna go with vanguard. I just started up ME2 and it's pretty hard to play since ive gotten use to nova, combat rolls, and falcon punch
