This seems like a good thread to post this.   An excellent analysis of the IM and his motivations

Chris Priestly closing the other thread (with a T.I.M. avatar to boot and a little devil) had me laughing. Props to him. Very fitting end to the thread.

Especially with the last post being a ballad.

I wish Bioware would do a new little segment with Sheen like they did with Sbarge yesterday.

ME3 "TIM" (imposter and doppelganger as far as I'm concerned) destroying ME2 TIM is indeed quite symbolic, and it fact should've happened in game for the ME3 plot to start making sense.

The only problem with that is ME3 TIM not being smart enough to defeat ME2 TIM. On the other hand, he's got an army, so he doesn't neeed the smarts if he can use brute force.

Many people who haven't read Evolution are left in the dark about TIM's ideas. Dave posted it before, but it's worth a repost, so here it is again:

"- And while it is with a heavy heart that I report the loss of our comrades in arms, Ben Hislop and Eva Core - they died as they lived, protecting humanity to the last. And what they helped discover not only confirms everything I believe - it has proven to me, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that there is something out there to protect humanity against.

"Desolas was right. The stars look warm and inviting to us - places to be explored, knowledge to be had, riches to be made.

"But we will not always be welcome. Those who came before may not be willing to share. It is the way of things. It is inevitable.

"A dark time is coming. Humanity will be tested. And while we may not know who is doing the testing or why - we must meet the challenge, as we have met all the others. We will succeed. Because to do anything else would be inhuman. We will watch the dark places - and bring illumination. There is no magic - only technology. Tools that we can master. Tools we must master. Not just to survive - but for the betterment of mankind.

"We can - and will - take our rightful place in the stars. This is my manifesto. I hope you will join my cause."

I feel this should be in game, so the players would know what exactly TIM stands for. Shepard's got access to Shadow Broker database, and the recording is in free access, he should be able to look up such info. There is a reference to the manifesto in the Codex, a curious and politically savvy Commander would no doubt try to look up the manifesto itself, just to find out what the hell he got involved with, and other such minor but interesting things, like what quarians look like without helmets.

Say what now? Bioware has made it painfully obvious by now that Shepard is a simpleminded soldier, not a politician.

Alright, I have a question about one of those sigs on the OP. "The Illusive Man...is a worthy opponent." Is that, like, a renegade Shep thing? Or is it a Paragon who respects what TIM has done? Not sure about it.

Yeah, nothing in ME leads me to believe that Shepard is more of a leader or more brilliant than Marcus Fenix,Master Chief or any given Call of Duty protagonist.

Why do you say that?

Because that's exactly what is the case.

And Ambi, that sig means exactly what it says.

...but it's a little ambiguous. (that was not intentional)

I wouldn't want someone to think I'm a renegade cause I have a TIM sig.

Yeah, Shepard spends an entire game saying stupid shit("genophage is like the FCW!") and amounting to be little more than a corporal that has the ability to tell the ship where to go. S/he displays no political, tactical or strategic knowledge whatsoever.

Also, to be fair, the MC is the Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy, I would wager he's probably quite savvy in some areas. It's just never displayed becase it's Halo, he rarely speaks, and most of the exposition is delivered by Cortana.

It's different in Shepard's case, since he does do a lot of talking, and neither version of Shepard shows a ton of situational awareness (far more apparent with Paragon Shepard, though).

I'm not worried about specific people, I just don't want to give off the impression that I'm a renegade.

Edit: This is probably piercing the heart of you guys:P

Can you give some examples?

That is not worth worrying about.

[Bear with me here guys, this is classic Ambiguity hazing] You'd get to be more like Twilight Sparkle that way.

What?

You mean you care about what other people think of you? How very un-Paragon.

I don't care about what they THINK of me.

I do care about their...eh, what's the word...preferences? I care that they may not want to hear all about ponies in the TIM thread.

if TiM was a pony, he'd be Gilda. I know thats cheating but it makes the most sense. with Gilda always trying to be friends with dash by pushing ponies away. :P

I think he was referring to you being worried about people thinking you're a renegade.
