What's wrong with beautiful women in games? Why would anyone want ugly ones?

Beautiful women in games aren't 'wrong' per say. However, what IS wrong, is that they are usually presented as idealised, implicitely stating the message that women who have good looks are also automatically perfect. Also, usually these beautiful women are used as marketing tools to appeal to the audience in order to increase sales.

None of the "attractive" women in this game are even remotely "perfect". Not even Miranda.

perfect hourglass form.

I do not know a SINGLE girl with these proportions. I barely recall seeing models looking like this

/rubs temples *to self* Not once did I tihnk I'd have to explaina what that means...

Attractive =/= perfect.

Miranda may not be in a combat role. If it's the case she isn't, I'm fine with the catsuit-thingy.

As for Ashley, the neat thing about the internet is that there's all sorts of things available, and all you have to do is look them up. You could, say, get a picture of Ashley from the first Mass Effect, and compare it to a picture of her from ME3. And at that point you might realize that you're looking at pretty much the same goddamn picture with a different hairstyle and a different outfit.

At the end of the day Miranda's or Ash's look isn't going to ruin anything.

But call it what it is, it's pandering and fan service. People keep trying to pass it off as character growth, or no longer being bound by Alliance rules (Ask Shepard how that worked out when he was a Spectre and no longer under Alliance rules)

Exactly, its fanservice for the sake of fanservice, it serves no purpose whatsoever but to give nerds boners.

Why are we even caring about boob size? Don't like it don't look at it, and play the game. Jesus, you sensitive people would probably hate on Mortal Kombat just for the boobs and not even focus on the gameplay.

Oh right, because mass effect has always been 100% about gameplay. Stop trying to change the subject when you loose an argument.

There are like 20 different people arguing. I trying to keep up with everyone of them. It's an internet forum, get off your high horse. Now let me get back to you, since you're so impatient and have nothing else better to do with yourself. I saw no difference in her breast size in the trailer compared to the first game. I honestly don't think Miranda or any other female even have large breast in any of the Mass Effect games what so ever (other then Samara). I've always wonder what people are bickering about with large breast when there aren't any. Even if there were (Samara) what is the big deal? Don't like large boobs, ignore it.

I don't mind big boobs, my girlfriend has qute a nice pair actually, I mind airbrushing to make previously plain looking (design-wise, not graphics wise) characters acceptable by hollywood standards.

you know its not as if the male characters are hideous looking, I don't get why people complain about the female fan service when there isnt one fat ugly dude in it either, like that armor that Jacob wears for instance doesn't provide much more protection than Miranda's

Okay, i stand corrected. In his default outfit the pattern is much smaller and resembles mesh more than anything, in his second outfit it's more like Miranda's. But... so?

Do you not feel that Cerberus could be described as clinical? I don't see how this is supposed to be a valid retort to my original point.

You've been given a perfectly valid story reason for Ashley's change in attitude towards her appearance. Of course there are out of game reasons behind the design change too, but you're having to ignore her established characterisation to wage this little fit.

By looking good they automatically implicitely send out the message that they're perfect. It's not only in games, but also in real-life advertisements on TV and on billboards, actually. Humans seem to have this tendency to think that when a person looks good, he automatically also is perfect, that he has a great personality etc. It is this thought pattern which is rather shallow and overly abused in especially the games industry.

Okay. Well, i get the argument against her catsuit and others that are not wearing armour. I guess what it comes down to is that there are two schools of thought.

1. That everything should be as close to realistic as possible. People should be in dress appropriate to a combat zone.

2. That a smalle measure of belief should be suspended for the sake of artistic license and visual identity.

I don't think that either is wrong. I'm just vehemently on the side of number 2.

I'm not sure how many people you have met, but not a single person I know acts or thinks this way.

Way to generalize the entire human race.

And I'm not sure in which kind of civilization you live to not have noticed this archetypical trend in most big cities.

is this about Ashley now?
.
ok, I'll just say something then:
.
I understand why they did what they did wti Ashley. They need a hot chick to show close to Shepard, and with Miranda gone, well, they had to rebuild Ash. I didn't have any problem with it untill I realized she would use that hair everytime. It's just show that as far as appearance goes, Ashley ceased to be the soldier she was, which isn't good.
.
And to finish, the difference between Miranda and Ashley is: one has a in-game explanation for being "perfect". The other don't.

I didn't choose the wrong. There is no wrong character to have as an LI. Mir has always been my LI. My choice, and she shall be my ONLY LI whether BioWare likes it or not. Sorry, BioWare, but I'm not interested in your Blue Mascot, nor am I interested in your Alliance Fanatics.
