the ruins on ilos were never confirmed to be protheans.

to me they always looked like humans with reaper tech, like saren...only without the tech coming out of his eyes.

maybe the protheans found that place and put a research facility there. they were researching relays and other crap there, so who is to say the protheans didn't pick that spot on ilos because an old civilization had existed before. maybe they were building off past civilizations research into it like we use the prothean beacons and data caches.

or maybe they were turning humans into husks as an experiment of some sort.

Except that there were no other species at the time. The protheans were the only space faring civilization when they fell.

It's not a retcon... Or it happened as early as ME2. Again, JOAB.

It's a retcon, they made some headway towards it in ME2, but it's still a retcon.
They can probably justify most of it, but that doesn't negate the fact that it's a retcon.

My theory is that the statues on Ilos are in reality the reapers "true form"
(can be only a design change)
on the codex image of the protheans in mass effect 2 the statues look like husks that are based on reaper technology...
Maybe the protheans built the statues for the reapers after enslavement...

(O__O)

(sorry for my bad english)

I know this has been talk about before during ME2's time . . . .but please can someone explain to me how prothean
images from ME1 show them as looking like this :

Image IPB

We know from ME2 that the Reapers altered the appearence and DNA of the Protheans. . . so you get what is the collectors :
Image IPB

So now in ME3 we find that the DLC is a Prothean which looks like:
Image IPB

So the question is how  did they go from the top pic to the bottom pic . . . ? :blink::blink:

I learned that its NOT the Protheans. Ilos was a planet colonized by the Inusannon (the race before the Protheans) and thats what they look like, squid thingies.:)

I figure it is kind of difficult to animate so many tentacles. I liked the "original" look much more, the actual one seems to me just, somehow, less exotic.

There were plenty of other races but they were assimilated into the prothean empire, that's what Javik says.

Yeah, the ruins on Ilos are actually older than the Protheans. So yeah, I thought that was kind of interesting.

Its not a retcon

Not that i remember where in the game i heard this.

But those statues are eluded to belong to a race even older than the proteans.
Javick at one point states that Ilos was so secret because it had ruins of an even more ancient species.

He referred to them as the Iconian or something in that order

besides, it's mentioned that every species the protheans subdued went on to call themselves 'prothean' (which isn't a new concept, it's happened in our own history) so they could have literally thrown any design at us and called it prothean. For all we know Javik could be a member of one of those races, just because he SAYS he's a real prothean doesn't make it true. Now of course for the sake of the plot/game he most likely is but "prothean" can mean many things when a galaxy of civilizations call themselves that.

Prothean is not a RACE per say, consider it like being Qunari. I's a military(perhaps even riligious) doctrine, severall races are considered Prothean.

No, this has already been explained by Javik himself. The ruins on illos were not Prothean, they were from an even older civilization which the protheans took technology from to get so advanced

But in any case

Preorder cancled.

Which are part of the retcon, those statues are of the race before the Protheans.

And you aren't doing the meme right.

its not a retcon and heres why

me1 after you save liara she tells you she has a theory the protheans are not the first galactic species as believed

me2. edi tells you the collector has a prothean dna stand that shows genetic rewrite 9 basicly a husk type prothean)

me3 javik even tells you his race enslaved other species and allowed them to be prothean

he even explains on what the statue is from ilos when you ask him who came before him.

so how is that a retcon?

I'm a little late to this forum, but I believe that top image is an Inusannon.

Javik mentions that the Prothean city on Ilos was built on the ruins of a city by a race that came before them - likely the Inusannon.
So yeah, those are statues of Inusannon.

Alternatively, he also states that the Prothean Empire was comprised of different races. Perhaps those are statues of one of the "Subservient Races"?

The statues on Ilos were supposedly Innusannon. Javik mentions this on the Normandy. In ME1, the description even mentioned that the Protheans discovered it after the Innusannon.

Though at the time, one would certainly think those were Prothean statues. Even if they look like husks.

Because they never planned the saga. They started a story without knowing where they would arrive.

Husks with vines on their faces was a terrible design for the Protheans. I remember finding those statues and feeling "Really? That's what they looked like?"

Then they made Collectors as an insect race because of their control structure and swarms.... and then they were like "Let's redesign the Protheans going off of the Collectors." And they made a Prothean that looks more like the Collectors than the original human husks with vines on their face.

Actually Ilos was a world inhabited by the those who came before the protheans, that explains why the statues look like that.

Javik says Ilos was a world inhabited by those who came before the protheans. Those statues are probably the ones who came before

In Prothean times, the universe is not occupy by Prothean only. There are other species conquered by Prothean and later, call themselves Prothean also. Maybe the first picture is another species that call themselves Prothean too?

I guess that first photo isn't the Protheans but rather the race that came before them, the Inusanon.
