The only relevant question is whether to take the Carnifex or the Widow if you're fortunate enough to have both.

Mid 80's, still only have the Hand Cannon.  I carry it on pretty much anything, and also take a Tempest X if I play a class where I get my damage from guns.  It's excellent at peeling shields, and it only costs me 30% recharge bonus.

Is the widow much more powerful?

It just seems that with the Carnifex being so effective and close and long range, and(I'm guessing) weighing less, it would be a better choice, unless I'm playing as an infiltrator.

the widow gets 1-hitkills on body shots against pretty much everything (i've body-shot IHK'd a centurion with full shields before with cloak, disruptor ammo and full weapon damage powers) so yeah, it's pretty powerful.

Just don't miss, Or use it at close range. Or...

 I have a lvl 10 phalanx and only a lvl 2 carnifex. Would you recommend the carnifex over the phalanx in my case?

Take the Carnifex over any other gun, unless you have a fetish for the widow because the name sounds cool and see  scrubs in bronze/silver who think they are leet because they are 1 shotting mobs that are irrelevant in gold anyway and posting cool story threads about them.  The power is yours.  <3

I'd take the Carnifex over any level of Phalanx, personally. Bullets go where I put the dot for big damage.

The Carnifex was always outrageous, but in ME2 SP it was balanced by having 24 shots, making prolonged firefights difficult. In ME3 MP ammo is plentiful provided you don't get pinned down, eliminating this weapon's most glaring weakness.

For the purpose of the demo I actually would and do for all of my classes.

Do you have Salarian infiltrator? My God, proximity mine makes an awesome concussive shot, specially with Carnifex: Bang-Bang-Mine shot-Bang-Bang-Mine shot. Atlas goes down in seconds both through shields and armor!

If you look through those full game weapons that were shown on the Steam Forums a few days ago, you will see that each weapon category has one gun that's basically just a reskin of another one.

The pistol version is a Carnifex that is EVEN MORE POWERFUL!

The Scorpion Defence pistol looks insane, If you mode the demo you can even try it out.

It's the pistol Kirrahe uses in the SP.

Carnifex: 276 damage
Scorpion:  375 damage

The Scorpion shoots mini proximity mines so that damage is AoE. It sticks to walls and stuff as well.

Ok, a note here. I played a Salarian infiltrator with Carnifex and Proximity mines. These mines are very powerful, and can effectively be used as a concussive shot, as they go right out of the gun at high speed and don't even gimp shooting speed, so once in 3 bullets you can also shoot a fourth mine bullet. That ripped appart atlas pretty quick actually, BUT these mines are VERY inaccurate, for some reason they move a little away from the direct location the cursosr is pointing. Judging from that, it will be very hard to make headshots with a scorpion, nulike Carnifex. Try it out.

The Scorpion plays a little bit different. The mines shoot fast and are quite accurate. They then appear on the target (and you can stack them). The target does does an animation (where they are looking at the mines and don't shoot) then after about 2 seconds they explode.
The damage is very high. It fires faster then a Carnifsex but has an even smaller clip (20 Shots at level 1). It's also pretty damn heavy (about twice that of a Carnifex). Puts me at +110% recharge on my Infiltrator.

I'll rank it up to 10 to see how it does. It's only uncommon so it's not hard to raise.

I prefer the phalanx on classes like the adept or engineer, the faster ROF makes it easy to squeeze of multiple shots between using powers quickly and doesn't require precise aiming.

For most other classes I prefer a Carnifex for the head popping goodness. Takes out turrets pretty fast as well.

No. The range is too small, only good for Vanguards and Krogan.

What are you on about? The Widow is the best shotgun in the game.

M3-Predator = 9mm
Phalanx = .45 ACP
Carnifex = .44 magnum
Paladin = .50 AE
Arc Pistol = Taser
Scorpion = HOLY CRAP IT SHOOTS GRENADES!

(Using real world comparisions)

All depends on your preference. More controlability, a good middle ground between ease of use and power? Or full on truck stopping fire power?

I prefer the Phalanx because it is the best all arounder at this point. Good firepower, nice clip size, and good accuracy. At least until I get my hands on the Paladin which is even stronger than the Carnifex.

Unless you quick scope or get a lucky from the hip headshot, the Widow can't one shot anything at close range on silver or above. It is a balance issue to prevent Vanguards from Widow charging.

I have a Widow V right now and it one shots just about everything on two human legs.

And let's face it, quickscoping isn't exactly hard in ME3.

Nope but like I said, on silver or higher without cloaking, hip firing the widow won't one shot unless you get a lucky headshot.

But I don't like the slow rate of fire on it. It makes it difficult (at least for me) to play at close range with it. Phalanx still packs a punch and is able to fire at a much faster rate, so for the moment I still perfer that.

Then roll with two weapons. Carnifex +  SMG/AR and you're good.

Why would you need SMG/AR if you use Carnifex?

Because the Carnifex doesn't work (for me) close-up in a group of enemies. An SMG/AR with high ROF, 60+ shots per clip and appropriate ammo, however, does.

Are you are using a scope for it?

Nope. Tried it once (with an SMG as well), it was horrible.
