If you say that the lack of M/M option with Kaidan doesn't necessarily make Kaidan heterosexual (likely citing that he hasn't himself stated his orientation)...
You can't say that Kaidan is probably gay or bisexual because he set off your "gaydar" or something.
Can't pick and choose.
And yes, I have seen people do this.

I kind of hate the notion of 'gaydar'.

It saddens me especially when I see LGBT folk doing this. Kaidan suffers from this particularly.

I agree.
I see sexuality as just another preference in the sea of many personal preferences but I don't think it defines a personality to the point where you can easily 'pick out' the gay/straight/bisexual person.
It's probably a lot of wishful thinking.
But I don't see Kaidan setting off the 'gaydar' more than someone like Garrus, for example. If Kaidan does like men, then fine...but I don't see anything about his character that necessitates that.

Game over.

This is true. Though, honestly, it is often easy to pick them out if you're extremely familiar with the lifestyle and the traits/tendencies exhibited by those living it. And I'm not just talking about the flamboyant/dike kind of stereotypes. I'm talking about subtle nuances that can point to a person being curious, or a person who's hiding in the closet.
Of course, again, what you say is true and these traits/tendencies never concretely define a person's sexuality. They can't be taken as 100% certainty.

I would think that 150 years from now gays/bisexuals wouldn't feel the need to hide in the closet .
At any rate, most reasonable people would assume both Kaidan and Ashley were heterosexual, based on their dialogues..
Much the same as most reasonable people would assume a teenage boy with a dozen Penthouse magazines under his bed is also heterosexual.

I mean not some side dialogues, or a different sentence, but more along the lines of not being able to reach the best ending for that romance?
I lost my save where I romanced her in ME1, and Miranda in ME2 with my male shepard, so I replayed the game, as a femshep and they resisted the advances of my femshep for some reasons

But I don't see it as any different from picking up the subtle nuances that point to your friend liking vanilla ice cream (in theory).
Except, there's no social issue involved with liking vanilla ice cream....so there's no weird 'in the closet vanilla ice cream lover' thing going on.

There are some who believe that no matter how many women a man has sex with, no matter how many years he exclusively finds women attractive; he is a closet bisexual.
I kid you not.

Well that's debateable-- But, I'm not here to discuss if homosexuals would be openly and fully accepted 150 years from now. Not to mention that I fail to see how you can really spot anything that can be considered heterosexual. Kaidan does say how Liara is "easy on the eyes" and about the girl in his childhood past. But, that never discards the possibility that he's bisexual. Ashley states she believes in God, but never states her exact religion or if she does not like the idea of homosexuality.
And I have also yet to find Kaidan's stash of Penthouse magazines... Where ever he sleeps that is..

Judging by the way you treat your assumptions as The Canon of Mass Effect™, I would think you wrote for Bioware.Carfax wrote...

Finally, since no sexuality was ever established for Ashley and Kaidan in Mass Effect (and no, the opportunity to romance one gender doesn't imply heterosexuality), having them available for both genders of Shepard in ME3 is not a retcon. That argument is plainly wrong.
So going by your logic, unless someone flat out tells you their sexuality, then their sexuality is in doubt.......despite the fact that it was heavily implied that both Ashley and Kaidan were heterosexual in Mass Effect?
Kaidan made several comments regarding females (Liara and some Asari dancers I think) and Ashley made some comments about males if I recall.
Any way, no attempt was made by the writers to even suggest that either Ashley or Kaidan were bisexual/homosexual in any way shape or form, although there were comments by both characters that would imply heterosexuality.
Yes, infact that is very true. I really hate how society has taught people that being gay means you MUST conform to their stereotypes, and anything different is completely lolwat.
I know a fair few mascluine gay guys who, unless they told you, you would never know was gay. Plus, infact, I don't know any butch lesbians but the two lesbians I do know are very girly/feminine.
Stereotyping people is bad, m'kay?

No offence intended but why do Ash and Kaidan suddenly bat for the other team while the girl with the shaved head and tattoos who "approaches sex casually" is 100% straight? I don't want to deny anyone from loving their favourite character, but if Bioware are going to retcon sexuality why only do it to some characters and not others that it would make more sense for?
I cakcled IRL. Jack was bi in her past though. She had the threeway with that one couple that took her in. I think she may stay away from the girlies for that reason alone.
But I mean are people really surprised Ash turned out to be bi? I'm more surprised she ended up liking men.

For me, it's about the signals people send you. And I don't know about you, but they don't send me "hmmm, really in the mood for ice cream" signals.
So if I say Kaidan sets off my "gaydar", it's because I see tension between manShep and him, even if it's not canonically there (not 'till now, at least).

Jesus! bisexual.... BISEXUAL.... BI - SEXUAL.
God, I feel like if I were a non existant entity.
And from his dialogue, he likes Shepard, not his body.
