Plus why would you want everybody to have a similar accent in the game if they're supposed to be from another time/space/race?

So, a muddled, undetermined white accent for the Quarrians is fine, but a muddled, undetermined black accent for the Protheans is unacceptable.

I actually kind of like that idea... the pseudo-eastern-european accent spoken by the majority of quarians kind of fitted quite nicely into their concept - having the protheans display a distinctive accent sounds rather interesting.

In fact, the more I think about, the more that sounds quite apt... ancient egyptian aliens, anyone?

I think its an interesting choice. Was it what I was expecting? No. I was picturing something very regal, but also cold and arrogant. I will wait and see; he may be a really cool squad member. When he's not yelling his voice sounds really cool. I'm just worried how he will play. I have a feeling that he'll either be a Garrus clone or just another biotic. Almost every squad member in ME2 was a biotic; it got really old.

Judging by the way he looks I would have figured something more along the lines of Clint Eastwood, Robert Knepper or Michael Wincott would be better...something that could be calculating but intelligent and methodical. I mean the dude survived his entire races annihilation...he has to have some survival instincts bread into him...

I think the African accent isn't bad but it is a tad bit distracting...

I can't help but lol at these misconceptions.  A European or Western accent does not equate to a "white" accent. Europe, Great Britain, Canada, USA, Australia are all very multicultural.

Put into that context, yeah. Egyptians kicked tons of ass for thousands of years. If the Protheans somehow resemble them, I have no problems.

The issue is modern Africa is kind of... well, it sucks, so if people hear an African accent, they immediately think of a Somalian pirate or some fly-ridden kid in Ethiopia.

I dunno.... 'It's not strategy... it's stupidity....' sounded pretty regal to me

I just assumed he'd sound like that Prothean you hear in the recording on Ilos, the one who mentions '...act of desperation!....', sorta sounding like Gandalf. Or maybe just like a more relaxed Vigil.

But then, assuming all Protheans would sound the same is plain silly. In Tali's Loyalty mission, the Conclave members sport a mix of english, iranian, polish and american accents out of a crowd of less than 30

One of his lines implies that he was born quite a while into the Reaper Invasion, and grew up during the end days.... a Prothean Kyle Reese, if you will.

So realistically, he was always going to be either a military badass or a genius scientist. Can't quite figure out which he is, yet, as he sounds both badass and intellectual.

Oh yeah, I read the script. He's warlike, not regal at all. He was born in the midst of Reapers reaping. Nothing regal about it. He may be more technologically advanced, but he is nothing like a western-influenced "modern" mind.

So yeah, if you naturally equate African accent to cheetahs and constant danger... It might be a lil racist, but it fits his description anyway. That's his character.
