This thread got dumb fast...as someone pointed out earlier, it isn't the accent itself that [most] people have an issue with, it is that if any species in the game needed to sound alien it was the protheans.
I still don't understand this line of reasoning. Why should the protheans sound any more "alien" than anyone else? Even ancient people are still people, they're not gods. The Reapers are far more advanced and detached from organic life but they still sound "normal" by our standards.
Its because these people place far too much importance on the Protheans.
They are also assuming (for reasons I dont understand) that all Protheans had the same accent. They base this on the well known ScienceFact™ that while humans can have a wide range of accents, each alien species only gets one.
First off... I don't appreciate being refered to as "these people" in a thread full of accusations of rascism.
Secondly, if the protheans were like any other species in the game (Yahg aside) that you could go about interacting with at your leisure than there wouldn't be a problem, Prothy is the only living breathing prothean (Presumably) that we get to interact with in the entire series (thus far) so forgive us if we were expecting something a bit different.
So since he's the last one, he has to sound super special? I dont really understand why, but whatever.
Because it's a video game and a work of fiction, "The last surviving" anything is always something special
The Last Akkadian- The Rock, need I say more?
The Last Martian- Martian Manhunter
The Last Wayne- Batman
The Last Jedi- Luke Skywalker
It may not make sense in a logical manner, but it has come to be expected.
EDIT: Luke Skywalker wasn't really epic so I admit that wasn't a good example.
