It's starting to smell a little like racism in here.

Racism and ignorance, but unfortunately I'm not surprised by a lot of these comments. What the **** ever, I HOPE this is the Prothean's voice.

I thought I'd hate it after reading this thread but I didn't mind it...
Should've been Morgan Freeman though
that would've been great. His voice commands a sense of awe which would have been perfect.

Aside from Mark Meer, I'd have to agree that the Prothean has some of the best voice acting.
I'm not sure how to respond to this. I love Prothy's voice acting but cant stand Meer's, to the point that I cant play MaleShep without skipping all his dialogue.

It's unique... I expected some Legion voice, or something we've heard to much of in the past. It makes the Protheans stand out in this 'Northen European' sounding Galaxy.

Everyone in space should sound either eastern european or have an even midwestern united states accent.
Anyone who has any space travel experience knows this.
I believe you are right. Africans in space?!?!?!!?

A lot of people in this thread need to take Linguistics 101. I have chuckled quite a few times.
-Rhetoric, logic or methodology 101 first though.

All important as well. Let's design an entire curriculum that is a pre-requisite to posting on the BSN.

-Political science, history, rhetoric, logic, methodology, linguistics, sociology and a few months of either national service or paramilitary training would suffice?

Haha thorough, especially the paramilitary training one. Let's see people be misinformed about how to hold an SMG now!
I might add Shakespeare or some sort of literature as well as a narrative theory course since people often like to discuss characters/stortelling in Mass Effect too. And because I am an English geek.

The prevailing theory is that Protheans influenced early human life. Early human life was in Africa. From what I gather, Protheans in this case don't speak with an African accent, Africans speak with Prothean accents.
As someone who does actual work in Sociolinguistics and language change, I can say with authority that this is 100% improbable in every way, even if the first sentence were true.
Oh yea? Do your xenoscience studies also extend to urban and agrarian?
I don't think you have any idea what I'm actually talking about, but yes, Sociolinguistics covers both urban and rural speech communities, and extensive work has been done on the history of African languages. The idea of a group of humans somehow inheriting a Prothean accent, and maintaining it over anywhere between 100,000 and 50,000 years is patently absurd.
I'm going to have to give a massive 'Who cares' to the Prothean's accent though. It's a sci-fi video game.
